Bought a 2000 C2 last July for my 62nd birthday. I have put 8000 miles on her so far, had to put tires on it and just the standard maintenance. She has almost 100K miles now, uses no oil (I've never had a car that the oil stayed so clean in) and is solid and a pure joy to drive. I spent the last 3 months seeking out twisty back roads all over CA, NV, UT, CO, NM and AZ. What a wonderful machine, to me the car seems to have a soul and makes me feel like young again.

Are you going to be hopping back into the Porsche ownership experience any time soon? Maybe a Porsche GT3 or something? Also, is it "easy" or straight forward to do a manual swap on a Murcielago?

A guy local to me just rolled 100k in his Gallardo Superleggera. He told me he dailys it, even through the winter. The car screams, and I remember the summer he got it, I would always spot him ripping down some of the local back roads near me. If anyone has heard of the CF Charities show, the owner of the superleggera is actually the man who started the entire event, Larry. Love seeing cars rack up crazy "unheard of" mileage!

I know all about the IMS bearing! My 2004 996 4S went on me going onto a dual carriageway. Long story short I should of researcherd the bearing issue first. Over £12,000 pounds later and many trips on a recovery vehicle before it got to its place of restoration. The car is back to new, fully rebuilt engine it drives like an absolute dream. However any one purchasing a 996 get the IMS done asap and save yourself a good amount of money! Love the content VINWiki !

The M96 engine in the early 98/99 cars was a dual row IMS bearing with proven 1% failure rate. Later cars switched to single row with proven 9% failure. US class action suit proved this.

I think a big factor why Porsches seem to have so few issues compared to other sports cars, is people drive them every day. Also, the IMS was only an issue if the bearing wasn't getting lubricated after the initial grease was flushed out, which could happen if the car sat around a lot or was tracked a lot.
@smithiness
@smithiness 6 лет назад
I believe the problem was due to the bearing being permanently lubricated. The oil pump is on the opposite side of the intermediate shaft and Porsche didn't design a way to pump oil to the IMS bearing at the back of the engine.
