I have had the full size in 40 S&W now for about two years and have run 2,000 + rounds through her without a single stoppage, using all types of ammo including lots of hand loads. I replaced the decocker levers with the stealth levers and converted to decock only. Changed the stock hammer spring with the Langdon #12 lb silicone and dropped in the Langdon competition trigger group. D/A pull is very smooth, crisp and clean. Talon grip tape keeps it glued in my hand with the snappier 40 cal. It really didn't need the new trigger group as it made very little difference. the stock trigger is really smooth straight out of the box and wouldn't spend the money again. The most accurate and reliable pistol I own. ( Sorry Glock fan boys, but yes, more reliable than my 17 or 19.) Absolutely love this pistol. I got it brand new at a deal that I couldn't pass up, $385.01 including shipping to my FFL, and was the only reason that I bought it. Lets face it, it's an odd looking pistol but fell in love with her at our first dance. This is the ugly duckling that could, and does flawlessly.
Jeez! I'm blown away! Now I know it's the Langdon tactical model, but wow!!! That thing LITERALLY had a lower fail rate than the Cz P01!!! The Cz p01 had 7 failures out of 15,000 rounds. This only had 12 failures out of 50,000 rounds! What a FANTASTIC pistol. Ernest Langdon really is the master, I'm speechless!!!
Great test and feed back on the PX4 Storm. I own one of your compact carry’s and absolutely love it. Everyone that shoots is amazed how well they shoot it and how accurate it is.
Appreciate the time you took on this test. I own this pistol and though it’ll never see 50k rounds I’m glad to know my investment was worth it. Thanks!
Great Video. Those are some impressive results. Guns is durable, no doubt. I own the PX4 compact in 9mm and after a few modifications such as Talon grips and Wilson combat hammer springs, it has turned into my favorite compact carry gun. So accurate and great control. Now, Im seriously considering getting a PX4 compact 40.
Great data! I bought a Px4 Compact for EDC after reading about your work with it and watching @LuckyGunner's vids. Couldn't be happier. There are a lot of great pistols on the market, but I really enjoy shooting that Beretta. I'm looking at getting a 92 next. Your new LTT looks sweet as does the M9A3 Black.
This only confirms my belief that the PX4 is the best production handgun made since it arrived in 2004. I have 2 compacts and plan on getting a full size soon.
Picked up the PX4 Compact a week ago after some research. Only 50 rds thru it but what a nice shooting firearm. This reinforces my decision. The only change so far right off is florescent orange on the front and florescent green on the rear.
awesome review, thank you. I am really considering dumping some other guns and picking up two of the LTT 92's for uspsa and maybe 2 px4's, one for carry and one for matches. Great stuff!
I bought a used PX4 at my local range. It's an excellent pistol and I made it better with stronger recoil spring and lighter hammer spring. In single action mode it's a hair trigger.
I purchased one of your PX4 pistols the other day. Decided to take the plunge. Can't wait for it to get to me and put it to use. After careful concideration I decided to use it as my first concealed carry.
Great wrap up! I am really wanting to get some time with a PX4 Compact and see how it compares to my P07. The P07 trigger out of the box was not so good. It has smoothed out some with help from CGW parts. I had to deal with two dead front night sights when new. I really like how Beretta has factory oem upgrade parts. The one thing with the PX4 I know I do not like is the lack of grip texture. Talon grips can resolve that though. I am starting to see that even though CZ handguns are great and work great, Beretta just has a little better quality.
@@CMS069 CZ plastic guns are crap. Not really an opinion, everyone who uses them a bunch comes to the same conclusion. Any gun designed to destroy itself when dry firing isn't high quality, it's just a range toy at best.
Awesome! I like the PX4 also but I shoot my 92 series so much that the PX4 Storm gets neglected. I love the feel of the pistol and it is a little lighter than my 92FS variants but its hard to pull myself away from the 92's
I've avoided even researching the PX4 pistols for the longest time because of how "homely" they looked. But after stumbling across a number of Langdon videos, watching a lot of PX4 reviews and finally holding one recently I've done a 180 on my book cover judgement. My local range does not offer a PX4 to try out so that's a bummer. None the less, I'm still saving my $ for a Beretta 92x, but I'm seriously considering a full size PX4 Storm instead and spending that difference on LTT upgrades.
I wish that you went for the PX4, way more manageable than the 92, full size though, not the compact. Looks drove me away too for a while but i promise it looks and feels different in real life than on vid. I am not one of those people who have different hand gun for every task, the gun i carry is the one i live with. And it’s definitely in my favorite 5 along side G19x, P-320, CZ p-09 and M&P. browning HP is above my fav list but that’s another story.
Sounds like a piece I'd like to have. At times you have recommended a different hammer spring, might the gun come with that? Also the stealth levers take some getting use to, might there be a compromise, to get an easier to activate lever? That is my complaint about the PX4 Compact Carry
SO is the 92 Elite LTT a better gun for accuracy and trigger pull for you to shoot than the px4? i know the polymer PX4 is more for carry..Great Video! Thanks!
I wonder how much not clean and using quality lube contributed to the cam block failure at 44k. The 50k test would have been a great opportunity to see how a high degree of careful maintenance and lubrication upkeep make a gun keep on its feet and running vs 2k gaps in care.
You make a good point, but I honestly don't think the cleaning and lubrication added to the breakage. I would say that the shooting schedule's intensity likely added to the issues. 50,000 rounds in one year is a ton of shooting. Some of those days were 600 or 700 rounds in just a few hours. That creates some huge heat cycles that the gun goes through, and I doubt any normal shooter would ever put those heat cycles on a personal handgun.
sir how often do you do a quick strip clean and oil maintenance on your carry gun? I do a quick clean on mine every month or so even if i dont get time to go to the range for the month. Never have had an issue with it but im just curious if im overdoing it.
It would depend on the environment you are carrying the gun. East Coast, no sand, protected and concealed, once a month should be fine. Southwest, sand blowing, unconcealed, once a month is likely not enough. Regardless of the gun, if you are trusting your life to it, clean and oiled is your friend.
thank you for the reply. I carry a px4 storm compact carry and plan to take a pistol class with you in the future. I was wondering if you also sell pistol training videos that I can use in the meantime to hone my skills? Thanks in advance.
What do you think about the manual safety? Do you use it? Is it easy to manipulate in order to use it all the time? I mean activate before holstering and deactivate after drawing. Thanks.
Almost all of my guns are G Model Guns. Meaning they are de-cock only levers and spring back to the fire position after decocking. I have no issues operating the safety, but I also normally keep the F model guns in the off safe position when in the holster and just use the lever like a de-cocker. All my PX4s are G Model guns.
@@LangdonTactical, thanks a lot for the reply. I use Glock so I don't have a manual safety at hand, but I guess I would use it if I had it, just to add an extra layer of safety. I use to say that of there is a feasible manual safety you use if (activate before holstering, deactivate after drawing). It's just to avoid involuntary discharges in case of a finger does what it shouldn't. What do you think? Is it feasible with the PX4?
Yes, it is totally feasible with the PX4. I would recommend running the 92 style safety levers as I think they work better for sweeping the safety off quickly when drawing the gun.
I’m thinking to buy a full size PX4 LTT from you, but have only tried the regular PX4 at rental range- I like the easy racking for me- so my question will be, is your LTT NP3 with Holosun still similar in ease for racking? Thank you so much. PS also we are going to buy the 92XLTT etc. thank you!
hello Hernest, just a curiosity, did you notice a decrease in accuracy from the start of the 50k test and the end of it? Or if you notice earlier than 50k... Just to know if a such heavy use did change its characteristics due to a wearing of the barrel or the slides. Thanks
There was not a significant loss in accuracy. Will good ammo it was still shooting 2.5" groups at 25 yards at around 49,000 when I shot the last groups through the gun. Hammer forged barrels don't wear much in pistols.
I see that Beretta offers a "competition" locking block for the PX4 full size, is that to mitigate the breakage in high round count guns? Do you think this problem would be present in the compact version? I notice it has a different block assembly.
Thank you for your extreme efforts! I'm just a little confused, here 2:30 you call it a ''Cam block'' and here 2:53 you call it a ''Locking block'' and, having just purchased a full size, I would like to know what part to order so I'll have a few on hand should I need to replace mine, since I enjoy about 500rds per range visit. - Do you know if the standard production model has been in any way upgraded, improved or changed since 2017? I didn't know about the Langdon version when I bought mine, but as much as I like the one I have, I just may purchase a Langdon in the near future, especially if the trigger has been in any way improved (not that it needs it) Thank you, Eman
I have had the full size for about 8 years and they are great guns. The SC is new to me about 3 months ago so my experience with it is limited. Of course it does not have the rotating barrel design like the full size and compacts do. It does feel solid and well made but does feel "different" than the other models. I'm sure because of the different function of the barrel. Definitely try out the SC if you get a chance. I like mine. Sorry I can't help more than that.
I also just posted this question to your 25,000 round update on the PX4 full size torture test. Beretta recommends not carrying or firing this pistol from the "half (quarter) cock" position. However, both my HK USPc and Sig P226 are typically carried and fired from their "half cock" decocked position. Is there a functional difference that makes the Beretta not suitable for carrying in or firing from the "half cock".
Great video brother. I would love to see you do classes in the KY and TN area. You seem like an upright fellow and I believe that you can provide great techniques to people like me. I have never had a Beretta, but I am curious in the LTT, Wilson Centurion and the PX4 CC. As a matter of fact, I drove an hour just to see if the local gun store had the PX4 Storm CC. I just wanted to hold it in my M/L hands. I have seen videos and they mentioned that it was pretty thick, so I wasnt very interested in it. I am a big CZ fan and DA/SA for appendix carry is my preference. I have to tell you the PX4 CC felt pretty good in my hands. I am seriously looking at purchasing one to put thru the ringer. Also, do you recommend a company that can perform a stipple job?
The PX4 Compact Carry is my daily carry and has been for about 4 years now. Love that little gun. I did my stipple job myself. I heard that Boresight Solutions is doing stipple work on PX4s now. They do beautiful work if that is the case.
When a young guy enthusiastically said that he owned a GLOCK 17, I told him that I don't like Glocks, but they're extremely popular for a very good reason, and that both the 17 and 19 are excellent choices.
No issues with the magazines and I use the same ones for the whole test. I did have three of the 6 mags NP3 coated which worked out really well. I also replaced the magazine springs at about 25k. No specific reason other than it was halfway and what I would do at a bare minimum on any gun.
I don't suppose you can give us some clues on the future of the PX4? The fullsize is not selling on Beretta's website. LLT doesn't have any FS to sell. There is a $75 rebate on Beretta''s webside for the compact and compact carry from Now till Labor Day weekend. Is the entire line being discontinued? Or upgraded?
I am told it is not going anywhere. Beretta just won some major contracts with that gun overseas, South Africa, I think, and that has taken most of the production capacity away from the civilian market for a while. Still a great gun and I don't think it is going anywhere that I know of.
@@ernestlangdon3075 - Thank you for your response. I find that the PX4's recoil control is an ideal candidate for competition , even better than their own 92. They even have a drop-in separate Competition Trigger Group for the PX4 but their longest barrel is a 4 inch!! It's screaming for a 5 inch competition model with some cosmetic updates and a cleaner optics shelf.
@@LangdonTactical Do you see that is a better option than a Beretta 92X Compact or Beretta 92LTT Compact? I have carried a full size Wilson combat 1996A2 since 1999 when I went to school down in Texas. But now that I'm suffering from AGE, I've gotten interested in a red dot sight on top of my pistol. In doing so I discovered the LTT RDO and cannot say enough how impressed I am with that pistol. Will there be a PX4 Compact Carry with an eloquent red dot mounting solution soon?
@@jdblackwell2873 I prefer the LTT Compact because of all the additional features that come with it as a package. Yes, we will have a new mounting solution for the PX4 very soon as well.
No real reason just did not have any on hand. I tried to stick to the major brands for duty ammo. larger quantities to buy at a reasonable price. Also, ammo was just free stuff I got along the way. Some of it was calculated and some were just random. It was not about the ammo, it was about the gun.
Yeah, that did not happen. I think they had a counter on there based on what I was doing that year, and they never turned it off. I will reach out to them and shut it down. I do still shoot that gun, but it is only at about 64K right now.
It was more than $12,000, but it was not a waste. Good thing this happened several years ago when ammo was much cheaper. I got a lot of good training and data for that 50,000 rounds.
That notoriously weak Beretta locking block. I carry a Px4 Compact every day and bet my life on it so it’s disappointing to hear that you had a parts breakage within 50k rounds.
Yeah, it did break, at like 44,000 rounds, and the gun kept working with it broken! Most people don't understand how many rounds 50,000 really is. That is a ton of ammo and likely a lifetime of ammo for most people.
Richard, disappointed? How? 44,000 rounds of ammo before a parts fail. And it still functioned broken. That's a testimony to Beretta quality. Most people's guns (combined )will NEVER see that much ammo so therefore I'd never feel concerned about my life carrying a gun with that track record. Hence why I carry a Beretta 92fs. Got 3,600 through the pipe now and hasn't let me down yet. Amazing firearms with top notch reliability.
There are more than a few on the market for this gun. Safariland and US duty gear make duty holsters. JM Custom Kydex and Tier 1 Concealed make concealed carry holsters for it as well. You are not likely to find holsters for it on the shelf at your local gun shop, but you can order them really easily.
