Thanks Dennis, I always enjoy seeing the service of these types of reels.While these bait casters would be used this side of the pond,they would be no where near as popular as in the States. It is always interesting to see the difference between techniques and tackle in different areas. Please keep them coming and stay safe. 🎣

It is always interesting. Now those manufacturers are making these more robust for saltwater use. Even Penn is getting in the game with the low profile saltwater reel. Best - Dennis

Great job Dennis! I’m happy to have this video to guide me on future service. It’s just too complex a reel for me to go just off the schematic. Thanks again! - Brian

Time to take it fishing. As a side note, watch that flipper spring if/when you do the service - Dennis

Sure wish I’d seen this 2 days ago before taking mine apart…doh! Believe it or not, I found one of these floating vertically on a nice jigging rod. It was in Buzzards Bay…salt water! The entire combo looked brand new. Rod still had plastic on the butt. Apparently the rod had enough buoyancy to keep the butt a few inches out of water. So I’m drifting along in the middle of the bay jigging for sea bass, when this rig bobs right up next to the boat. Crazy but true. Soaked reel in fresh water overnight, then let dry for few days. Took it apart and couldn’t believe how little salt residue was in it. Small amount under tension cap and a bit on the handle shaft/threads. The mag plate was clean as a whistle. Can’t wait to use this “2nd Chance Tackle” 👍

Other than the Magnetic braking this Accurist mimics the Code Red almost exactly lol thank you for the Video my Friend, I purchased a used Quantum Code Red and it’s apart on my Bench and there was an extra tiny thin washer lol now I know where it goes. Truly thank you for taking the time and doing the Video. Stay safe my Friend Semper Fidelis

Hey Dennis. I have a pretty old model of this reel. This video was very helpful in taking it apart and getting it back together, it’s still not 100% but it’s better. Thanks for the videos.

I don’t exactly understand mag-brakes? on a reel. Could you explain that sometime? I did two reels today - a very nice Olympic 2800 saltwater reel and a Penn 720 Greenie. The Penn is okay but nothing great but that Olympic 2800 is awesome. Someone had put a ceramic sealed bearing in it. I totally didn’t expect that. It is a fantastic reel for surf fishing and as good as almost any vintage reel I have. It came with the box and papers and is one of the best bargains I’ve ever gotten. This Quantum looks like a nice reel. I’ve never had much luck with Quantum reels after having had a bad experience with a Cabo once. Great video again Dennis! This one seemed pretty complicated.

Basically the closer the magnets in the side plate get to spool , the slower the spool will spin. So mags basically just slow down the spool using a magnetic field.
@christopherjenkins2373
@christopherjenkins2373 3 года назад
@@aaronhiggs So doe this eliminate backlashes? I don’t fish with reels like that Quantum as I’m just a surf fisherman. I used to use an Ambassador 7000 C3 but I’ve lost a lot of my eyesight and can’t see my rig hit the water anymore. I sold my conventional reels and now only use spinning reels since I don’t backlash them. Still the idea of a magnetic brake intrigues me. Thanks for the explanation.
@aaronhiggs
@aaronhiggs 3 года назад
@@christopherjenkins2373 it doesn’t eliminate all backlashes, but it does help quite a bit. Shimano has a technology called DC or digital control that uses a small microchip that controls the breaks. Tried to backlash the a shimano with the digital control and I couldn’t. Tight lines buddy and fair winds!

Thank you for doing this video, you certainly make it look easy. I would like to ask a question about the larger washer you lightly greased, is that the Carbontex washer(s) that acts as the drag? I am confused when you lightly grease that washer wouldn't that would effect the drag of the reel, I am not familiar with the Carbontex drag system so I was hoping you could clarify that for me. Thank you sir for your time.
@2ndChanceTackle
@2ndChanceTackle 2 года назад
Thanks for asking. The purpose of the grease is to refresh the washer and help keep it flexible. If the washer is porous, it will eventually dry and crank, so grease helps prevent that. You are correct, too much grease will affect drag performance causing slip. If you use it, a light coat is all that is needed and it can be wiped off to just a sheen on washers like the Carbontex ones. - Dennis

Any idea where to get parts for this reel? Have a cracked drive gear. Can’t find parts anywhere on line. Quantum doesn’t sell parts on line anymore.
@2ndChanceTackle
@2ndChanceTackle Год назад
While they may not sell the parts on line, they should know and be able to tell you where you can get the parts. Call their customer service number 800-588-9030 and ask - I also thing that Platinum parts carries some Quantum parts for bait casters. I don't think they support spinning reels from Quantum. Here is there contact info Tel : (813) 358-1588 E-mail: sales@fishingreelparts.com

How often do you want to do this maintenance on your reels
@2ndChanceTackle
@2ndChanceTackle 2 года назад
I recommend maintenance annually at the end of your fishing season. If your season never ends, do it around the winter holidays - and remember to change the line when you do the service - Dennis

Needs more ball bearings. I use a non magnetic thumb device of my own invention to slow down the spool.

Crap. I think I greased the anti-reverse clutch. Am I screwed?
@2ndChanceTackle
@2ndChanceTackle Год назад
Maybe. If you can take the handle and star adjuster off and mop it up, you will be better off. You can also just leave it until you notice the A/R slipping and do it then

I have a quantum energy pt ( e761 pt) that I am in the process of cleaning. The handle side plate I cannot get off to access the internals. I got it loose enough so a stud and spring fell out. Have you had any experience with them? Im thinking that side of the reel is not serviceable. Idk. Any suggestions? Thanks

@@2ndChanceTackle Scott, I removed the clutch and disassembled all those little pins and housing. Dipping in isopropyl alcohol. Then Krud Kutter, then rinse. Got rid of all the oil and grease. Reassembled the clutch. Worked like a charm. Thanks!
