Dude, there ain't no bigger Queen fans than me and it's one of my favourite too! If you're ever walking down the street on a nice sunny day, feeling good, just put on this song and I guarantee that you'll strut down that street like a boss! The song is from the same album ( "Hot Space") as Under Pressure, so it kind of makes sense that you like that song too. Interestingly, Michael Jackson was a very big fan of Freddie Mercury at the time, and cited Hot Space as one of his main influences for his famous Thriller album. The album was originally slated to feature an alternate version that had David Bowie on background vocals, who, just prior to the album's release requested that his vocals be removed, since it was not to his satisfaction. Freddie was happy to oblige and basically remixed the song although apparently itgus delayed the release of the album You can easily find it on RU-vid and it's rather interesting, although I kind of prefer this version better!

It’s an under rated song. It’s a great song. It’s funny because the album (Hot Space) this is on was rejected by a lot of the core fans and the general public when it came out. It just came out at the wrong time apparently. The album has a lot of funk influence and the rock and roll fans (which was Queen’s core audience) just didn’t like it. My oldest brother didn’t like it at the time (he kinda got me into Queen), but today recognizes and appreciates it much more. Under Pressure is also on Hot Space. I will say it has 3 or 4 tracks I don’t care for that much, but the rest I really like quite a bit. That all said, I love Queen so much, I really can’t pick a favorite song. Too many to choose from.

Cool Cat is a funk gem - you just cannot unhear that bass line paired with Freddie's vocals. When John & Freddie put their heads together, something happened. ONE YEAR OF LOVE (from the film, Highlander) is a soul searing song that might also stir a connection. SOMEBODY TO LOVE Live, you might prefer the Milton Keynes version over Montreal - just a different, empassioned vibe. DRAGON ATTACK live at Montreal is another belting bass tune. Agree too on Under Pressure...still and always relevant - a beacon.

Love Cool Cat! This sound was not appreciated by many Queen fans when it came out and the album, Hot Space, didn't do well so Freddie said that the other guys hated him because he had been the one to say this new sound would work. Over time it, I believe I read somewhere that it has become the 4th best selling album of theirs. Please react to Soul Brother. It includes titles and lyrics from their previous hits. Written at the same time as Cool Cat, Brian said that Freddie told him he wrote it for Brian who was feeling like Queen was going in new directions where he no longer fit.

If you like this you might also like several other songs from their *Hot Space* album, which is their funkiest album. Try *Dancer* or *Back Chat* 😃😃 or try *Body Language* - that's the song Queen's hardrock fan base hates the most... 😁

I think you would like the whole Hot Space album. It gets a bad wrap because it was made during a rough spot in there personal lives but there are some gems on it like this.

Have you listened to Dragon Attack, live in Montreal? Freddie loved Disco/ dance and he called these the black funk category...Freddie could turn his hand to any genre. This was from their HotSpace album 1982 if you want to here more from this category.

This was all John and Freddie, Brian and Roger had zero interest in this song. I don't even think Roger plays on this, I think it is a drum machine and I have heard that Brian really isn't playing guitar on this one either but I can't speak to that for certain.

Oh I agree completely. I've been a fan since '73, and this one is my go to song. If I'm feeling down or just plain grumpy, a couple of plays of 'Cool Cat' and all is well again.
