This is a reaction video to Queen performing "Cool Cat" from the "Hot Space" album released in 1982. This song is atypical of a Queen song. The song is written by John Deacon and Freddie Mercury. The end result is a very funky song with Freddie singing in his best falseeto voice. Hearing it makes you want to automatically start dancing. NOTE: I mentioned I did not think many reactors did "Cool Cat". Afterwards I searched RU-vid and there are tons of reactions. Oh well, just add mine to the list of reactions. 😉

Is this the same Queen that sang Bo Rap, March of Black Queen, White Queen, We are the Champions?? You bet it’s Queen!! Freddie and John’s funky Motown sound! So great 😄

I love the song and Freddie's super power falsetto, the diynamics he's singing with.

The yellow jacket is Freddie Mercurys. He wore it in concerts.in the 80s

Hi Kelly ... Now that you say this, I do remember seeing pictures of Feddie wearing a yellow jacket in concert. That makes perfect sense for the commercial. Thanks for the heads up on this. Enjoy ...

The yellow jacket is actually Freddie's. Freddie used these jackets since 1982 (I don't know if he used it earlier too)

David Bowie did do a song with Queen: Under Pressure! I notice your Lennon shirt so check out Life is Real (Lennon’s song) that Freddie wrote and Queen recorded as an homage to him after his death.

COOL CAT is one of those soul snatcher songs. Once you hear it you, can't shake it and wouldn't want to. Am partial to watching Queen official lyric videos when there's no studio/live video but still glad you connected with this one. Check out Wembly liw concerts and you'll see that iconic yellow jacket.

AWESOME reaction! I really appreciate all the background you gave (and - coming from someone who is OBSESSED with Queen & Freddie - you were spot-on with all your facts). I know what commercial you're talking about! I've seen it a couple times, and I was thrilled that they were using a lesser-known Queen song that most of the "main stream" music-listening public are probably not familiar with. (The point of the commercial for Amazon was that they sell (actually ALL of) Freddie's different jackets/stage costumes... they even sell other "everyday" clothing items that Fred wore in interviews!) The yellow jacket is the iconic "look" that Freddie is most known for. (Since you weren't into Queen in the 80s, you wouldn't have known that.) In the 70s, it's the harlequin leotard that's most famous; in the 80s it's the yellow military jacket... Every year that Queen toured, he had a different "look", but I think the yellow jacket is best known because it was from their LAST ever live tour in 1986. REACTION SUGGESTIONS: In 1987, Freddie recorded an album of OPERA - titled Barcelona - with Spanish operatic soprano Montserrat Caballe. From that album... "EXERCISES IN FREE LOVE" ...is a Demo vocal exercise that Fred recorded, where he sings Montserrat's SOPRANO part. (Some reactors mistakenly think it's Montserrat singing!) There are two versions... The ORIGINAL 1987 one is BEST. (It's just piano accompaniment; you can hear the vocals better... Later there was a posthumous re-release with more orchestration added.) ALSO: FREDDIE'S "IMPROMPTU" ...at WEMBLEY STADIUM on SATURDAY, JULY 12, 1986 The most INSANE high notes, live! There's a FANTASTIC, HIGH HD remastered video by: VIDEO REMASTER ITA channel. (There are actually TWO "Impromptus" at 1986 Wembley, because there were two shows: Friday, July 11 & Saturday, July 12. Both are different and they're short, so some reactors watch both back-to-back.) P.S. It was also awesome to see you used the fan-made video from KacioRMX... They actually have a LOT of "remixed" videos they've done for different Queen (AND Freddie solo) songs; they're really great!

Hi Marcie ... Thank you for the super comment. I appreciate the detail in the comment especially about the customs Freddie wore on stage. Being a Queen fan in the early 70's, I enjoyed the many genres used on their albums. My favorite at that time (and still is) was "Shear Heart Attack". I felt that album was Queen's attack on glitter rock. The album is killer from the first track to last. That is an album I played often and loud! I did do a reaction of Freddie and Montserrat performing "Barcelona". I have also done other Queen reactions. Search my channel for these. Take care and keep rocking ...

Great reaction! Revisit the album! A lot of cool music and the concert at Milton Keynes 1982 that included music from this album was on fire! I recommend watching that concert! Finally this song and the album are getting their due! By the way the yellow jacket in the ad is a copy of the one Freddie wore on the band's last tour!

Great reaction, and nice back story and insight into your discovery of Cool Cat! An amazing song, a favourite deep cut for many Queen fans. Another similar song from Queen is Soul Brother. Queen were always extremely experimental, and a bit ahead of their times, that is why Hot Space was not that well received at the time. Queen did any genre of music, and Freddie could sing any genre of music convincingly. Brian May and Roger Taylor hated this song, they refused to play any instruments on the song. The version with David Bowie's background vocals is available on youtube, the song is better without David Bowie's background vocals. I don't know perhaps David Bowie did not have a enough time to do good job on his vocals. Queen has incredibly unique songs in their catalogue. They are also one of those very rare bands who where still top charting artists (after 20 years), until Freddie Mercury's untimely death, and even after his death. Some unique Queen songs I can recommend; - Staying Power - Queen live at Milton Keynes 1982, A funky song from the album Hot Space, it was better live then on the album. - Action This Day - Queen live at Milton Keynes 1982, another funky Hot Space Song. - The Fairy Fellers Master- Stroke - this song is so strange, you cannot even put it into a genre, the song even features a polka. It is a song from Freddie Mercury's incredible imagination. The song is about a painting. One of Queen's best songs. - Bring Back That Leroy Brown - a full out Ragtime and Vaudeville number, or in Britain music hall song. - Stone Cold Crazy - Queen live at the Rainbow 1974. This song is officially known and recognised as the very first thrash metal song. - Sheer Heart Attack - Queen's punk song! Since you mentioned punk, Queen did have two or three punk songs, this song is a parody of the punk movement. - Back Chat - Queen live at Milton Keyes 1982 also from Hot Space, this song could easily have been on Thriller. - Dragon Attack - One of Queen's most coolest songs, with the best bassline, Very funk, mixed together with rock, great song. - The Invisible Man - Another awesome funky bass song, very 80's, there is a slight similarity to the Ghostbusters theme song, the music video is great. - You Don't Fool Me - A funky dance song but from the 90's, Queen sound like the 90's it is quite interesting. - One Year Of Love - R&B and soul number, it even features a saxophone. Done for the Highlander movie. - Innuendo - Known as Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody of the 90's. A full out hard rock/ metal/ progressive rock number, one of their best. It was a number one hit, but for some reason it is forgotten. - My Melancholy Blues - a full out jazz, or a smoky jazz club song. Great song and vocals. (from News Of The World actually since you mention it). - Soul Brother - Very similar to Cool Cat, even higher falsetto from Freddie here. It was a B-side of Hot Space. - See What A Fool I ve Been - The BBC version - A full on blues number in the style of Led Zeppelin. Great song. - Rock 'n Roll Medley - Queen live in London 1977 - This is Queen doing covers of old 50's rock 'n roll numbers in their own style. It is really awesome. - Love Kills - Freddie Mercury. This is a solo Freddie Mercury dance track made for the movie Metropolis. - Living on My Own - Freddie Mercury - A dance hit with a lot of scatting, in the 90's they added more of a techno beat to the song and it was a massive hit in Europe, in France it was no.1 for a few weeks. There are more but this should really keep you busy if you are interested. Queen were very unique artists who basically did whatever they wanted to do. Their deep cuts are their best and most interesting music. It is sometimes easier to appreciate their genius now after a few years have passed. When you were in the middle of the 80's there was a different attitude to a lot of music, in some ways people are more openminded about music these days. In the 80's you had to stick to one genre.

Hi Zenobia ... Thank you for all the information in your comment. I agree with your insight into music in the 80's. I also believe that the genre of music available exploded in the 80's leaving people to think, which direction do I take. Myself, I was focused on new wave/alternative groups coming out of the UK (not so much turned on by that same genre out of the USA). The groups I listened to in the 60's and 70's were put to bed for awhile. Now I am awakening them one by one. Your list of future reactions of Queen is incredible. I will definitely work on that list. One other RU-vidr comment to do "Soul Brother". That will most likely end up on my Queen short list. Thank you again for your wonderful comments. I can see you are a true Queen fan. Enjoy and keep rockin' ...

@@drivingwithtodd1781 Thanks for the reply! What you describe is exactly what I have read and observed from that era. The 80’s is really slightly before my time, I do enjoy reading and listening to anything from the 50’s - 90’s. New wave was really popular especially at the start of the 80’s, which the advancement of synths. There was a lot of factions and interesting developments in many different genres. The music industry could easily afford all of these different sub genres in their bubbles, because music sales were at its highest during the 80’s. So, it is interesting to hear your insights from the 80’s.

Saw that commercial, and was surprised that they used Cool Cat. Same as you I was into the song, one of my all time favorites from Queen, and completely disregard what the commercial was advertising. Actually have seen the commercial a couple of times now, at least now I know it’s an Amazon commercial! Great reaction.

It's Freddie's the most famous jacket (the Yellow one). Check out Freddie's solo Exercises in free love- his voice will blow your mind. It was his impersonation of Montserrat"s Caballe vocal style. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q8d12E97jUs.html

The entire album, Barcelona, featuring Freddie and opera diva Montserrat Caballe is a true masterpiece in songwriting and singing. It’s a must listen if you’re a Freddie Mercury fan/devotee. I guarantee if you listen to the newer remastered album, you will have goosebumps. Regarding Queen, they are one band that crossed the decades with a variety of genres, which never made their music repetitive. And regarding the Cool Cat Amazon commercial, it was directed and produced by actress and filmmaker, Olivia Wilde. The ad debuted at this year’s Oscars. It is meant to show that you can get just about anything on Amazon. Of course we recognize the pic of Eddie Murphy and Freddie Mercury’s bobble head, however, the other pic is of Frida Kahlo, who was a famous Mexican portrait painter. As mentioned previously, the yellow jacket is iconic to Freddie’s look of the ‘80s, and yes you can purchase a similar jacket on Amazon. Unfortunately, Freddie’s Adidas wrestling shoes that he preferred to wear for live concerts (he said they were comfie for all of his stage moves) are not available on Amazon, and the shoes worn in the commercial are said to imitate his wrestling shoes. Lastly, the song Cool Cat is available to stream on Amazon Music.

Thanks for your reaction to the song. Hot Space is a really good album. As you brought Michael Jackson up a few times , he and Freddie Mercury co-wrote and sang duet on three songs not released in duet form., "There Must Be More To Live Than This", "State of Shock" and "Victory". In fact "State of Shock" was supposed to be on "Thriller", but stuff happened so, Michael had Mick Jagger re-record it and released it later without Freddie.
