Couple First Reaction To - Queen: Cool Cat [Official Video] 

Love Cool Cat. It was made with John Deacon doing all the instruments and Freddie writing the lyrics and singing. Just the two of them in the studio. Mr. Video reacts to this song in the USA. Btw Freddie has a five octave range which allowed him to sing high and low. The video is scenes from their Budapest trip to perform there.

I see his girlfriend/fiance (blonde woman), Mary, standing next to him in one of the scenes. Queen fans are vast and worldwide with a new generation now. John Deacon & Freddie Mercury wrote this song.

This song is one of the most soulful tracks on the Queen 1982 album "Hot Space" and it was written jointly by bassist John Deacon and Freddie Mercury. This song is not only a Queen rarity as far as genre is concerned, but It’s also one of few in which Freddie Mercury sings entirely in falsetto, and one of few to feature NO contributions from either drummer Roger Taylor or guitarist Brian May, both of whom despised the "Hot Space" album’s new sound as a whole, with “Cool Cat” being one of the most blatant examples. There is a version of this song with backing vocals by David Bowie. According to Brian from 1982, “David just did a backing track. I don’t think anyone thought anymore about it, except that it was a nice ornamentation. We just sent him a courtesy note telling him that we had used it and he said, ‘I want it taken off because I’m not satisfied with it.’ Unfortunately, he didn’t tell us until about a day before the album was supposed to be released, so it really set us back. It delayed the album’s release.” John played not only the bass guitar but the keyboard, synthesizer, electric guitar, and drum machine. Freddie sang lead and backup vocals.

The Hot Space album wasn't too popular when it was released, but has since shown its worth in the Queen catalog. I like this one quite a lot.

Budapest is the capital of Hungary and the video is based on the film of Hungarian Rhapsody. It was a 4 year long lasting procedure with the Hungarian authorities until the Queen could stand on stage in Budapest on 27.07.1986. It was obvious, that the Hungarians couldn't pay the usual fee of the band and the finally paid amount is a secret until these days. In order to reduce the costs the Hungarians and the band's managment agreed in filming the concert and the film was titled as the Hungarian Rhapsody in which you could get some more information how the band spent these few days in the Hungarian capital behind the iron curtain.

One of my all time fave Queen songs! Songs written between John & Freddie are on the same page - and this is in their "funk" category. Love their connection. Crank up the volume and you feel the need to get up and move. On smaller gems when only the studio version is available, I prefer the Queen lyric video because the focus is on the lyrics, not the visual. Another lovely diamond in the Queen catalog is JEALOUSY. A beautiful song that washes over you about a personal trait that is ugly and corrosive. Queen does that combo so well!

Cool cat was from the Hot Space album from 1982 and was just Freddie and John. Brian and Roger did not play on this one, John played bass, electric guitar and clavinet (like an electric piano) and Freddie synthesizer. All the best to you both for Christmas and happy new year xx

You are right, this was a river cruise that they took during their free time when they were on the Magic Tour. They stopped at places along the river. Freddie LOVED to shop so he's in those shops buying a whole bunch of stuff, some for himself and some as gifts for others. He did a lot of shopping everywhere he could. Mary, his former fiancee and probably best friend, was there and took care of a lot of the finances for Freddie. She would also appear as his date for press events to give the appearance they were together. His lover would also be there but they would not make it obvious they were together in front of the press. It's a great concert. You will love it! I think it will be particularly interesting to you guys because you are interested in the behind the scenes stuff. They follow each of the band members in their free time and mix it in with the concert video. It was shot on film so the quality of the video and audio is excellent. Brian goes up briefly in a hot air balloon and Roger does some go-cart racing. Perhaps you could react to the first 35 min? Only if you want to. It may be too long for you. I believe you two will really enjoy watching it if you want to watch the whole thing on your own. Freddie seemed to be having a really good time. He and Brian even learned a special song in the native language while they were there and performed it for the crowd. This concert was performed slightly differently than the Wembley concert that most are used to. They went on hiatus several times so they could all work on their own projects but they never 'broke up'. They threatened to break up but they knew that the four of them together produced something special that could not be obtained on their own. Not wanting to perform with Queen without Freddie and very much still grieving his loss, John retired shortly after Freddie died. John and Freddie had similar taste in music. They were very democratic and each got a vote in what the band chose to do. It has been said that Jim Beach (the manager) got Freddie's vote after he died and Jim reportedly tended to vote with Brian. This means that where previously John and Freddie would often vote together and Brian and Roger would vote together, John was now the sole vote against the other three. Thus, it may be that John felt forced to retire. Brian and Roger still perform as Queen today with Adam Lambert on lead vocals but they consider their last "Queen" performance to be with Freddie at Knebworth in 1986. John still works with the business end of Queen but doesn't perform with them. Merry Christmas!

This was a John Deacon and Freddie Mercury project. John was into the Motown sound and Freddie also enjoyed that type of sound. John played all of the instruments except the snythesizer, which Freddie played. Freddie sang this song in falsetto. Brian and Roger were not interested in playing on this particular song since it was not a style they wanted to pursue. This song was from Queen’s Hot Space album. Another great hidden gem from Hot Space is “Life Is Real (Song for Lennon)”. Freddie wrote the song as a tribute for John Lennon from the Beatles. Freddie absolutely nailed Jon Lennon’s musical style.

Freddie always knew what kind of sound he had to pull out of his sack. I love his super power falsetto using in this song and his vibrato is as amazing as John's bassline. Guys, I wish you Merry Christmas and waiting for the next Queen reaction. Greetings from Budapest.

On their Magic Tour Queen decided to tak a journey from Vienna to Budapest on the river for their next show which was the first stadium concert in Eastern Europe,behind the Iron Wall

Queen never broke up. They used to take breaks to do solo work. There's a famous speech Freddie made at one of the concerts saying they would never break up but stay together until they died.
