r/AmITheA**hole In today's episode, OP's son is a 16 year-old-boy who was in a relationship with a girl from school. He lost a family member, so he broke up with his girlfriend so he could have time to heal. The girl did NOT take it well and started harassing and stalking her ex-boyfriend. Eventually, she took it way too far when she broke into OP's house, redecorated a room, and served her ex-boyfriend a cake. OP decided to press charges for breaking and entering, but now people are calling him a butthole. What do you think?

"Why buy a lock and not a bin?" - because it never was about the pads or the blood. It's just about control. Control over what her kids see; control over what her niece is allowed to do, control over how much power her BIL has in his own house.

Thing is her son's "saw the bloody pads" which if true why were they looking inside of used toilet paper in a trashcan? They are not innocent, why did sil not ask them why they were going through the trash and looking in used toilet paper? The entire scenario screams Karen energy and the boys are a scapegoat for her digging in trash.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. As someone who grew up with a narcissist mother, this sounds a lot like that. Putting a lock on someone else's door for a total non-issue really just spells out your massive entitlement. She's lucky I wasn't there, because at the "she's a widow" line, I'd have said "yeah, seeing how she behaves, her husband probably offed himself because he couldn't deal with this crap."

Yeah, it's very obviously a gender based double standard... The husband and the girls parents clearly think "she's a teen girl, it's not like she can do anything dangerous". If she can break into the house, she's dangerous.

@@Nerobyrne Well that's true, you are arguing against someone who just see the world differently than you do. Some of my extended family puts way more stock in individual stories, anecdotes if you will, while the immediate family views statistics & probabilities as more credible. As a woman I don't really restrict myself much because I fundamentally know that I'm always way WAY more likely to be murdered or attacked by someone I know, if my life works out that way. Does that then mean that it can't? No. It means I've done the risk versus benefits & I'm not going to live my life based on what if? something happens because I'll miss the fun/good stuff too. That doesn't stop that other half of my family freaking out if I'm out alone after dark at age 42, even if I'm doing something mundane like running to a gas station or a Walmart because they heard from a friend that something bad happened there once, let alone if I stop off for a beer by myself (gasp the horror) because roofies exist & like I wouldn't know how to watch my drink after all this time. To them, their reality feels the same as mine does to me. It isn't really the same as a fact, anecdote & a feeling aren't on the same level really but it feels that way to them. It's the same way it feels to you from what it sounds like. That's fine but other people move through the world very differently.

As a boy that had grown up sharing a bathroom with his mother and 2 older sisters, I knew about pads & tampons before most boys realized girls are different~ And it was just so completly normal.... I grew up with two women, my older sister who doesn't have a cycle do to medical issues and my mother who has always had her own bathroom. Never seen anything period related until my late teens when my sister's cycle randomly kicked in (Can't remember why exactly, it had something to do with a recent new treatment) I was a terrified at first not going to lie, my older sister was just suddenly tired and then there was just suddenly blood. Was about to call 911 but my mother stopped me and filled me in and that was the end of it. The blood was just another mess to clean up 🤷‍♀ yeah it's gross but I can't imagine being such a little prissy bitch baby that you would be upset and demand someone dump tampons outside like an animal. I'm not saying it can't happen, but statistically, a girl going to that level of violence is unlikely. That's why you have to keep the charges because unlikely doesn't mean it won't happen. It's one in 17 men who experienced domestic abuse. And one in four girls. Also, there's a big asterisk with the statistic on men a lot of times it's same sex couples. If you take the same sex coupling out of it, the statistic jumps to one out of 28. Also, 98.62% of all family annihilators or partner murderers are male. If you want to see where I'm getting the statistics, you can go to the FBI website or the RCMP. That being said, I would keep the charges because why risk your brother being that one. Plus, she's 16 it's a trespassing charge it's going to be a slap on the wrist at most. Maybe it'll scare her enough that she'll smarten up. Also as a true crime listener myself True Crime podcast not all of them but a lot of them sensationalize female murderers. Simply because it's rare. It makes it much more scandalous. It does give you a skewed version of who's committing crimes.

Second story, stuff like this is one of the reasons why I'm against separating girls and boys when teaching sex ed. Boys and girls need to know the biological functions of the other gender, so that nothing can get mystified or demonized out of ignorance or misunderstanding. My little brother learned what periods are when I first got mine, I was in pain and miserable and just not used to it yet. He asked my mom what was wrong, she explained the basics to him (yes the blood part), how it happens to all girls during puberty, that it is totally normal but how it can be painful/uncomfortable. 15 minutes later he came to my room to bring me a comfy blanket, a mug of ginger lemon tea (my favourite) and asked if I wanted to watch a movie. Totally didn't have to do any of it but he made me feel so much better! He just empathized with the fact that I wasn't feeling the best and tried to help. Boys can understand, it just takes a 10 minutes talk without taboo!

I agree with D4G here like its even starting to effect me a bit. Like his last episode when OP caught his sister with her man (Of three years that she lived in her own place with) and then later found out that she was 4 month's pregnant at the time so they'd been messing around for awhile and they were like basically pushing OP to like commend and approve the relationship. And that now family was weighing in and saying that OP was being selfish and a b-word for not doing it. Why I know this is effecting me is because its like I've read tons of these stories and its been nagging at me like: Do these family members just exist in a black hole? Do they not have social media for their family members, no family celebrations, no little holiday get togethers? No one knows that she's been seeing this guy for years and nothing is odd about how he's with the sister and pregnant at all? And realize that their might be something a foot here? Are OP's parents really running that good a cover story that all the holes are plugged and they have no questions its that tight? It just makes me wonder at times if the family members in these stories are even people that have some sense of what's going on? Are they even real people?

think it has to do with the whole '14 year old white girl' thing. We have sort of a 'state of mind' that we can see girls be where they can be lovesick and absolutely delusional(e.g. faking mental illnesses and shit) and still understand where they're coming from, and still humanize them, but reverse the roles and it is much more unlikely for a 14 y.o. boy to fake/trick themselves into thinking they have a mental illness on tiktok. The whole 'girls being more mature and defending boys in a 'masculine' way' state of mind is also sort of not written into our code so when we try to categorize a girl who's stalking someone and try to categorize a boy who's stalking someone it confuses us and we end up with this. Because more likely than not he’s paying for things like Christmas gifts/decorations, Halloween decorations/costumes, Valentine’s Day gifts, anniversary gifts, random acts of kindness some examples include buying flowers, chocolates, paying to have her hair or nails done etc etc. so I don’t think it’s unreasonable for him to ask her to use that money for things on both of them.I would have understood if the husband was trying to be selfish with it asking her to buy him things like a gaming console/ set up or anything else that only involves him. The tea set story hits hard for me. When I was a kid my family had an amazing antique solid sterling silver tea set, and the kettle itself was huge and beautifully decorated. I adored this thing so much, it was the only thing I would play tea party with, hell I would even water all the plants the house with it to feel fancy. It was kept in an nice cabinet and was very obviously seen being bright silver. I came home from school and the tea set was gone, and I just remember crying in silence looking at that empty spot where it sat. I remembered running to my dad and asking if he was polishing it without me. He was silent, he never said anything, I remember it was the first time I ever told ky dad that line "I HATE YOU DAD!" He never brought it up for years, he would try to buy small kid sets and I would just scowl and refuse them. After I was an adult I had the nerve to ask my mom what happened, she was silent. I never realized that my my family almost came close to becoming homeless and that 1 tea set saved my family from loosing everything. Essentially, he guarantees she can never leave him because she cannot hope to support herself and her child without him. Okay, so the kid beat cancer, he deserves a pick me up. But does that really have to come at HR expense? The SO couldn't save up for it himself? He couldn't sell one of *his* items to buy the kid something? For the unequal marriage where she got the inheritance...... a way of looking at it is this: Let's say you run a business with someone. And they keep paying themselves but not paying you.....you keep working for years and years with your business partner, they keep paying themselves, but they don't pay you. Then one day someone decides to leave you a tip. Now your business partner wants you to put that tip into the business so that they can have it, even though you have been working for this company all these years without pay, and this wasn't even money intended for the business this was tip money that had nothing to do with the business. If he had been making her feel as an equal she would have wanted to share equally as well. I see it as the universe trying to equal things out for her. Lol

@@Jennifer_MB that's pretty sus ngl. Even though such a relationship wouldn't be too strange for the time period, it's still rather weird that he made such a deliberate change which ultimately didn't affect the story, just made it weirder. I remember reading a book in my native language literature class, and it was about a teenage girl who is married to a wealthy 38yo merchant at age 17. That's very much intentional, as one of the points of the book is to criticize such relationships, which were still somewhat common during that time. He WANTED op to be a stay at home mom. She went with it, because he makes enough to support them, and now he sees this as a way to financially control her. This is definitely financial abuse right there, my wife and I see our money as that, our money. If she is short on cash, I'm usually not, and when I am she isn't so we just pool our money together and use it to better both of us. We're married, and things like "owing you money back" isn't really a thing. He contributes financially while she contributes by taking care of the household and most of the child rearing, it's a balanced relationship. And yet he calls it "his" money, and sicks his sister on her to guilt trip her into handing over the inheritance?? No, he just doesn't want her to have any financial control in their relationship, and that's toxic.
@philipritter9367
@philipritter9367 2 года назад
Yeah unfortunately I witnesses this first hand with my parents. At first it was all ok they shared their money, but when my mum had us kids she didn't work and even sacrificed a full time job that would've paid very well. But she instead became a SAHM and raised us three kids, as my father was never there he even was absent from my birthday a couple times because he had something else planned. So eventually things became pretty bad between my parents fighting every day and sleeping separately. During this time my dad planned to move with us all to Australia (We lived in Germany). So for 2 years he organised everything to move to Australia. My mom agreed because she thought this might fix their relationship as it was my dad's dream to move there. So anyways we all moved to Australia except my sister she was 18 and wanted to study in germany. Well in Australia my dad bought a hotel and got loans from our family members to finance the initial investment. One of the people he got quite a big loan from was my grandpa (Motherly side). This will be relevant later in the story. So as you might already guess the relationship between my parents didn't get better, in fact it got much worse. So you see as my dad bought the hotel he was the boss and did the financial stuff and sometimes the reception, so his day started at 8am and ended at the latest at 9pm. My mum managed the reception and also managed housekeeping was the cook for the restaurant for 2 years and did the gardening on a 1.7 hectare property, so mum days started at 5.30am to start preparing for breakfast for 7.30am had to open the reception at 7am, at 9.30am closed the restaurant for breakfast and had to do the reception and organise housekeeping for the next day till 2pm, at 4pm she had to prepare for the dinner service and finish her day at 22pm while earning 35 p.a. While my dad earns "less" but doesn't buy anything out of his own pocket but let's the company pay for everything he wants, on the other hand my mum wasn't even allowed to buy a singular phone as hers was pretty much a broken 6 year old phone barely working. So now to put the cherry on the cream my dad has told my mother a few years ago that he had planned everything from the beginning. His plan was simply to get to Australia, so he had to do it with the family as it would've been way harder if he did it alone as he was close to 60. So the other benefit he had by this is that if you divorce in Australia you would get 50% of the other person including inheritance which my mum had become as her parents sadly passed away. So with him earning "less" than my mum he would get more money from her plus 50% of her inheritance while he has to pay nothing extra as the hotel is bought by his company meaning "not actually his" per say. And that was his plan that way he would have gotten the loan he got from my mum's dad for free. The loan he got from his dad he will just not pay back as he knows his dad won't take any action. Meaning he would've moved and financed his lifestyle in Australia for basically free. So as you can see this is what happens when your significant other controls you financially. Oh did I mention when I was 2 years old my dad beat me blue and and purple because wouldn't stop crying because I was hungry. So yeah my mum dad is sociopathic manipulative asshole.

The locked bathroom story: NTA. Did op's sister-in-law throw her own sanitary products in an outdoor trash can for fear that her boys might ask questions and maybe learn something about NATURAL female issues?? They were wrapped in toilet paper, so in order to see anything, the boys would have had to have unwrapped the used pads to see. Maybe SIL needs to teach her boys not to play in the trash, and SIL definitely needs to explain these things to her boys. Then again, I don't know the ages of the boys; I suppose a 3-5 year old maybe wouldn't understand. Oddly at the age 16 I didn't get to be insane or anything. I did see friends, acquaintances, and kids at school acting insane. I personally kept to myself at school, my best friend had moved and was a kind and didn't get into trouble anyways. Any free time spent during school days, such as lunch, would be either alone reading a book or with my boyfriend if he wasn't working. I would just purchase two jumbo muffins and sit in his old Subaru Brat with him talking. Outside of school I worked as a school janitor from 3:00-6:30. I would try to spend more time with my boyfriend, where I didn't do anything too "inappropriate". I had an earlier curfew than my younger sister and older brother (we were the last three living at home), despite being told blatantly that I was the only kid out of my mum's nine that she trusted. I had friends who smoked weed and drank but I never did, still haven't smoked and have no intent to (despite living with chronic pain) I mean I would fight about even taking ibuprofen... but that's besides the point. I had grown tired eventually of the odd standards put on me, so I did go against my no lying rule eventually. I would say I had to work an hour or two later just to be able to actually hangout. I played video games often times when I hung out. 16 also became the time when I did decide to use my voice finally. And I mean in way where I would better articulate what I felt and saw going on. I would come to finally tell my parents that they had a skewd system, that just as they were unjust when I never gave them grief. I would also at some point tell my father that I was done showing him respect he never earned from and only demanded. This caused him of course tell my mother, who I told that they expected more from me than my siblings. That has never been explained to this day but everyone else saw it, which is what made me feel like I wasn't just being a moody teen seeing the situation improperly. I spoke my mind more but would not take part in anything that felt like unnecessary "drama". As a full grown adult I have become someone who will bluntly speak things and I never let people walk on me.

I am a guy that grew up with sisters, pads are something that I've seen all my life. They never bothered me, they were just items i saw in the trash when I was a kid. When I found out what they were and what they were for, my reaction was "Oh, so that's why they appear in the bathroom trash". The idea that pads are somehow traumatizing is just stupid. OP's SIL is an idiot, and she thinks she has more authority than she has. She forgot she is a guest in that house, she's stupid for thinking she has any right to put a lock on the door. I understand why OP wants to throw her out, and honestly if I were OP, I'd probably give them 30 days to find a place, but they will be gone in 30 days.

In the first story... if it was a guy stalking a girl the standard would have been different. Most of the time.... No one gave a shit when i got stalked

Story #3 - To me, it’s bordering between NTA and ESH, since it sounds legally wrong, but TBH, OP’s husband got what he deserved. It’s called giving someone a taste of their own medicine.

Agreed. Glad OP got the tea set back and her husband is an idiot. “I’ll buy you a better set” yeah right. He doesn’t seem to comprehend that the tea set had sentimental value to OP. Also, if you’re going through financial troubles, spending $300 on a gaming chair that’s not even for you is irresponsible. As much as I understand OP’s actions, it’s never okay to sell someone else’s things, even if they’ve done the same to you.

While it probably hurt to break up with OP's brother the stalker needed to learn boundaries. Instead she should have just let him know in the beginning that she was still there for him if he needed her, regardless of the breakup. Then gave him space and let him come to her if he needed someone to talk to. Maybe that kind of love might have helped the brother more. Ya know letting someone grieve and just support them?

She's very clearly unhinged and obsessive, she needs actual therapy because she's gone beyond sitting down and talking about boundaries

The husband who sold his wife’s heirloom tea set, he’s not only b*tthole, selfish, and massively disrespectful. He’s a liar, a thief, and a narcissist. As for the buyer, OP was extremely lucky he was willing to let her buy it back. He could of said no, or asked for $5,000. He was being extremely generous to only ask for $150 for his loss of time and the tea set. And yes, she did the right thing by selling her hubby’s X box. The $150 is his a**hole tax for stealing and lying to her.

OP: "AITA for demanding my widow SIL and her kids to leave..." Me: "Well, yea-" OP: "-After she put a lock on the bathroom door and denied my daughter access to it." Me: "They had us in the first half, not gonna lie." Edit: Holy cow! I have never been highlighted before, let alone have this many likes! Thanks everyone! And rSlash, keep up the good work!

In regards to the period stuff rSlash, yes that is exactly how it is for almost all young girls with periods. There are so many people who are the worst when it comes to them. Especially old family members

those boys are 13 and 16, I would assume they know about periods already, given the fact that they live with their mother AND their aunt, the SIL is just being a loon and trying to have control in a house that she is a GUEST in

@@ArunShankartheRealOne using hyperbole is not the same. A straw man argument is dodging the subject matter completely and ignoring the main subject matter, which is not the case at all. If your looking to try and use uncommon phrases to make yourself look better, I suggest trying R/IAmVerySmart.

With the stolen property, they could have called the police, had their significant other arrested, and the property returned. Companies do this all the time. Although it would arguably be a huge issue in the marriage, in comparison to what they did.
