I honestly think op is ridiculously immature and it's actually strange. She has a very childish mind. The heck?! Part of the point of marriage is that you wear unflattering clothes and make stupid jokes to your partner and they love you even more for it! I'm only halfway through the story so I am guessing that it gets juicier but dang! I love it when my husband makes stupid jokes and some of my most cherished memories together are of us tickling each other on the floor or having a laughing fit over nothing because it's 1am and we're slap happy! It's like a never-ending sleepover with your best friend!
Think that's kinda the point. The scruffy silly comfortableness is unavoidable proof that the relationship is 'locked in'. Marriage can be undone, I love yous can be revoked, but being that level of comfortable around each other means neither of you are going anywhere and the honeymoon phase being over isn't a blip or dry spell it's just done. That's awesome if you're all in, but if you've already got a foot out the door it can feel like a lock snapping shut, and it's "now or never" on leaving.
When me and my man were just dating, we were about 5 months in I think. We were driving somewhere, and I was showing him the funny sounds effects I can make with my mouth. He said he can make a cool sound, then proceed to stick his tongue out while loudly breathing in. He ended up choking, and said 'Oh, that's not it' That's when I knew I love him.

Story 1: I don't know if there is a name for it, but there seems to be some sort of effect where something really dumb and minor just leads to everything falling apart as OP winds up uncovering a whole library of secrets. Like, if they started dating the second the younger party became legal, then I'd be trying to make sure the younger party is okay. If they've known each other for years (after the younger one became legal), then I have less concern. I just don't quite get the desire to be with someone who is over 15 years older. Like... At that point, you're both at very different levels in your lives. It's just... suspicious to me, I guess.

1st story: That's nuts. Glad lotion man had OP's back. 2nd story: They're right. That money could help someone they know more than "some charity."
