What the hell.. I have an older sibling who is special needs and can't walk without help. She is one of the purest souls ever and she makes me smile every day. I've seen the stares that she gets in public. Most are just people looking cause not many people see people in wheel chairs let alone special needs people. If anyone had even *looked* at my sister the wrong way I would be glaring at them in disgust and dote on my sister even more so she knows that I love her to pieces. Even then I'd still be ready to kick their arse just for looking at her the wrong way. If anyone had just started screaming at my poor sister, you can bet that I'd verbally whoop them. Now if they dared to lay a finger on her, they'd be on the floor with a black eye at the least. I get that taking care of someone with special needs is a lot of work, it can be tiring. But that does not mean you can scream at people to get out of the way and cater to the special needs person. I can see both sides of the story, the mother might just want to take care of her daughter cause it's hard to get someone out of a wheelchair. But that does not give them the right to scream at other people with special needs too. The girl had a metal bar in her leg, I get that it's not like being bound wheelchair but it's still something they have to work through everyday. No one deserved to be yelled at. If someone had deliberately cut infront of the girl in the wheelchair and the mother, then *that* is grounds for being angry. She shouldn't have started yelling at the people who were already in the line, that line was for people with special needs and the girl with the metal bar had every right to be there. The mom was crazy but I see where she was coming from, taking care of someone with special needs is a lot of work, 90% of my life was me helping to take care of my sister. I can't speak for the mother because I don't know if she was tired of taking care of her daughter with special (which is a little stupid considering how it's the parents responsibility to take care of the child because it was their choice to have them, the child didn't ask to be special needs), but for me and hundreds of other families with special needs children, taking care of my sister is the best and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Yes it can be a lot of work and stress but that isn't an excuse to yell at people, especially when they are special needs too.

As someone who gone through osteosarcoma. I do not have a knee but they created a knee bone for me so that I can walk. I look normal but when I wear shorts people would tend to look at my scar. One time at school we had a dress code rule. An administrator came up to me and told me that my shorts were too “short” I moved my leg a bit and her eyes widen when she saw my scar and said “Yea you shouldn’t be wearing shorts, you need to wear pants” and I asked her why and she just hesitiated (I knew exactly what she was refering to) and just said “Well so your classmates don’t feel UNCOMFORTABLE.” I just stared at her blankly, I was very upset that this woman had the guts to hide my strength that I fought so much for. Piece of advice, if you ever encounter a parent that says something like "They're just a kid, they don't know any better!" Just throw back " and they never will unless you take this moment to teach them." Shuts them up and it's a simple truth. Too many parents seem to think that they're kid will just automatically learn things like manners, self control, responsibility, etc as they age or reach milestones. Like they just wake up on their 10th birthday and suddenly know how to fold their own laundry and say their please and thank yous. Also sadly I have experienced the "you don't look disabled/aren't disabled enough bs. It happens with physical disabilities but it's extremely common with mental disabilities. I have ASD and ADHD but because I am able to live mostly independently I get told "you don't look disabled" for not fitting the mold of what they think a stereotypical autistic person looks like. It really REALLY sucks, growing up I barely had any accomodations and aid because of it

My completely Finnish mom has had the same problem with her Polish last name. The last native polish speakers in our family moved to Finland over 450 years ago, and after that all our ancestors have been as Finnish as they can be. She has still heard comments during job interviews that, "wow, you speak really good Finnish (and Swedish)", because they think she's a recent Polish immigrant. Half of the family tree actually altered their name to sound more Finnish after WW2, but my great-grandpa kept his. My brother had an idea at some point to switch from my dad's last name, given to him at birth, to my mom's last name "to keep the name going", but idk if he seriously considered it. Personally, I don't care that much what my last name is, I think I'll make it a double name when I get married next year.

I hate people like this. They make demands and expect them to be followed through with the hopes of some delusional belief in what? Lineage continuance? So apparently the little darling of a girl that was adopted by two loving parents isn't real family? If SIL did get pregnant with biological children, what did these two buttheads think would happen to the little girl? That she'd be returned because she no longer had any use? And what if SIL had all girls instead of any boys? Would those girls be forgotten because girls are useless in carrying on a family name? Those entitled parents sound gross.
@spydersoup8447

Yeah, I also wonder if they thought that they were using their adopted daughter as them practicing and preparing to have a real kid and so, the grandparents were just using her to practice being loving grandparents, not even realizing that she was going to be their son's only kid and she was going to remain in the family, which is sad. Also the fact that they clearly think that men are the only ones who can carry out the family name while girls can't, which is really sexist. In one well known video game, there's this family whom the women are actually the ones who carry the family name and the kids would have the surname of their mother, not their father. That last story reminded me a lot of my mom. She helped me pay for my car with the understanding that I’d make monthly payments to her to pay it off. Anyway, around a year later I decided to move out because she’d gotten more abusive, only then she was getting physically abusive. It took me a couple weeks to get fully moved out, and on one morning I woke up to discover that my car was gone! I demanded to know what she’d done with it and she tried arguing that I told her I wasn’t going to pay her the rest of what I owed (not true, I reassured her multiple times that I’d continue paying on the car). She had hidden it at a friend's house, and I had to withdraw everything I had in savings to get it back. Then it was a battle to get her name removed from the title to make sure she couldn’t just steal my car again. Even after that, she charged me for an extra month of rent and the phone bill, just to squeeze every drop of money out of me that she could. She got a lot of money out of me during the years I lived with her, so when I was leaving she had to get everything she could. I had maybe $100 in the bank and no savings when everything was all said and done.

this last story reminded me of my past. My birthgiver was getting money each month as i didn't have father( he decided that ending his life was good decision i guess). But well her excuse of why i was not getting even one cent of this money was that she had to endure my father, For like MAXIMUM OF 2 YEARS. So for 16 years she felt entitled for that money. She spent it on alcohol and stuff like that and we barely had anything to eat for weeks at the time. and only when i was 16 and finally was ready to run away from her, i was able to get that money.
@Xolivas1
@Xolivas1 2 года назад
The first one got me boiling mad because as someone who ACTUALLY works at a Cafe, this can become a hazardous situation. For one, we don't get payed enough to watch your children. Two, having a rowdy child running around can lead to potential injuries to themselves, especially during a lunch or dinner rush where all hands are on deck. Child runs into server and BAM! All that food just falls on the floor and possibly on other customers and if it's piping hot, injuries can follow. Broken glass and ceramic can be dangerous as well. And the sad thing is WE, the restaurant, have to pay the price. I remember one time a young kid was doing exactly that, running around without a care in the world (thankfully it wasn't busy when it happened). But without warning, he touched something that he wasn't supposed to touched unless it's an emergency. He pulled the fire alarm, causing it to go off. So my boss knew the second it was a false alarm and scrambled to the phone to alert the dispatch that it was a false alarm. But too late...fire department arrived, dresses up to the nines and ready for the worst, to a still standing restaurant with no sign of fire. They were clearly annoyed as they reset the alarm, and we were too. So parents, if you ever take your child to a restaurant...KEEP THEM IN YOUR EYESIGHT AND DON'T TREAT THE PLACE LIKE A CHUCK-E-CHEESE!!! Also everytime I hear an entitled parent make a threats like, "ohhh I'm gonna tell *boss/dean/parent* that you didn't do this for me. I'm going to make your life miserable. And blah blah blah. I want to just take a bat and wack them upside the head while saying "aaAHHHHHHHH SHUUTUP!!"

If I lost him in a crowd, it would be bad because he’s not able to understand how to navigate back or would know what to do. At this one venue, they carve out a ramped area behind the open seats for people with disabilities to sit and still be able to see the stage. I love it so much because it makes it easy to keep eyes on everyone, and security is pretty good about clearing people out who just jump in (they are polite and ask, which I’m fine with as it’s an open concert and the people who get these seats need them).

For the "upholding a family name", two points. Adopted children DO take your name, so problem solved. Girls CAN keep their names, and men CAN change their names to match the girls' name. So, if the grandparents were SOOOO worried of their family NAME disappearing (instead of the gene pool), they should've worked hard to get the girl be adamant, stubborn and very dedicated to idea that she will keep the family name even if/when getting married. Plus, as a pointer to make, I have a good note on this. Basically a friend's family was all like "we're super-rare family name, so our son will have to carry on the name when he gets kids" Until the son came out and told he's gay, and will probably never get kids because of that. Oooh, the fireworks...

One of my biggest pet peeves is the "You don't look disabled/sick enough" argument. I seriously cannot fathom how someone can judge whether someone else is disabled enough. This hits home because I have an "invisible disease" and have gotten that argument more times than I can count. Maybe they would like to pay my medical bills, especially the $5k a month for medication and then you can tell me how disabled I am! (Sorry for the rant)
@Robin93k

"Maybe they would like to pay my medical bills, especially the $5k a month for medication" No, they would tell you that you don't actually need that medication, and that you should stop pretending. You have to stop trying to argue with them, as if they're mentally stable. These people are completly incapable of understanding logic! The people that scream at others that they don't look disabled, usually have an undiagnosed mental handicap themselves, and are projecting. They want to believe that their own disability is normality and that only people with extreme physical disabilities are actually disabled.. Because if they'd accept your "disability" as a real disability, they'd have to aknowledge their own mental handicap as well... Which most of 'em aren't mentally capable of, due to their handicap. As long that we don't declare Karen an official mental handicap, they'll consider themselves mentally healthy, and those opposing her to be "retarded"

My family has the same reaction when my brother keeps grabbing at my plate. They keep saying that he doesn't want it, he's just looking. I guess they don't see it when he grabs at my food. Also with the entitled parents. Why does it have to be a male? If your female, can't you keep your last name when you get married. Is it a legal thing or a choice? And I feel so sorry for op's niece.

@@chrissmith6097 thank you. It like my family forgot that rule. I'm tempted to just let my brother grab the hot food off my plate but he's just a toddler and doesn't know any better. And besides, my family would probably ask why I didn't stop him.

Patriarchal families or those that come from patriarchal cultures generally are ingrained in old sexist beliefs that inheritance/property/surnames are passed down only through sons. To varying degrees, daughters would essentially leave her birth family to join her husband’s. It’s all a load of bull

I can't help but think about Back to the Future with that added note about last names. For those that don't know, Doc Brown dropped a line that his father had their surname legally changed from von Braun because of the anti-German persecution as well. As for that kicked-out story, I'd have tried to make contact with dad if I were OP because mom might have weaseled her way into ripping custody away from him and would be more than excited to have his kid show up, even if he'd moved on with having a new family, something that having big sister/brother around would help out with, like get OP paid as a live-in nanny/manny for the younger half-siblings. No guarantees, but hopefully OP's male parent isn't as sociopathic and toxic as the female one.

Damn I’ve listened to a lot of these videos of yours but that last story is bringing tears to my eyes. To be thrown out with no warning after turning 18 and have your car stolen from you must be so terrifying. They didn’t even say how many of their things they got out of the house before being kicked to the curb. Being a parent doesn’t stop when they turn 18 man and if you disagree then don’t reproduce.

Im from very old, very large english family line that partially emigrated over to the America's back in the late 1600's/early 1700's, (last name also related to a certain brand of food storage) and I can tell you that most of those big names have no honeor attached to them. What some of my ancestors and relatives have done with that name is pretty sad. My parents made it clear, that while they would love grandkids so they know our family is going to keep growing, that our family name makes no difference, and adopted/step/foster makes no effing difference to them. Those parents are horrible, disgusting, deranged beings that are on a surefire path to end up alone and despised by everyone they used to hold dear.

I hear story after story of grandparents not recognizing their kids’ adoptive grandkids, or ceasing to care about the adopted kid when biological grandkids are born. I am deeply grateful that my grandfather, aunts and uncles, cousins, and all other family members considered me a “real” member of the family. I was treated with love and acceptance by everyone despite being the only adopted kid in the whole family. Every time I hear about grandparents and other family members rejecting or devaluing their adopted grandkids/relatives because they are not biologically related, I seethe with anger and my heart goes out to those adopted kids. Thankfully they are (usually) loved and embraced by their adoptive parents. I have met my bio families and formed great relationships with them and that has been wonderful AND they do not substitute for the people who raised me and loved me my whole life. My adoptive parents are my “real” parents and the extended family who loved/love me are my “real” extended family. I am their “real” kid, grandkid, etc. Love to all the adoptive families out there who love their adopted family members as their own.

The entitled parent who wants the longboard is so stupid. He won’t un-sell his long board for you to buy it. If you want it so much just buy it yourself! Also just because someone didn’t sell you something doesn’t mean you can just steal their money to buy it. Also, why would the entitled parent think that they possibly can get anyone in trouble in that situation.

Yeah not let's be real, like FDM said, the average person in America (Australia too, so many name changes here after ww2) aren't exactly well versed in where names come from. To them, if it sounds northern European, they're going to think German or Russian. Don't forget the cold war, so a lot of Americans were opposed to Slavic people of any kind too.

I know this is an older post, but I have to say it. About the story with the adopted niece. I literally only want to adopt. I tell people, if every I am going to have a kid, I'm going to adopt. And it will be a kid who needs me (and yes a kid, not a baby). There are kids out there who have nobody. If ever I come into a situation where there is a kid out there, and I am literally the best person for that kid, I will be their mom, and they will be my child. They did not have to come out of my body or have my genes. Plus, I'm 39 now, and suspected a long time ago that I cant have kids or can with difficulty. But honestly, it didn't take as long as I thought it would for me to make my peace with it. I never even checked out to me sure, and don't even want to. I want to adopt. Some people are like "but life without kids are so empty." No, that's not how I see it. That puts the emphasis on how that would make their own personal life less empty. If I am going to adopt a child, I will do it to make the kids life less empty. So you want to have bio kids? That's fine. You're allowed! Kids are great. But people who act like adopted kids are less important than the all might family name, or passing on genes just really get on my last freaking nerve.
