As someone in the mental health field, compulsive liars are some of the worst people I have ever had as patients. They refuse treatment, blame it on something insignificant (such as the place they are getting treated at) and refuse treatment all the way up to the time the court said they were required to stay or the two weeks is up and they can and will make multiple various complaints to hire ups about them not getting treatment but when referred to notes, voice recordings and supervised visits they are proven wrong. I work at a drug center as an LCDC, aside from narcissists, compulsive liars are some of the worst patients. Especially when they're there due to a CPS case that involves very very young kids. Though patients lying isn't uncommon in my field, you get lies that range from "I'm a therapist myself." To "I'm in the army and I can have you killed." Compulsive liars are the terrifying part of my job due to just how unpredictable they are and admittedly before getting my certification I was almost positive a compulsive liar is someone that would be on the lower tier of dangerous people, boy was I wrong.

Heck yay! Good on ya. IQ is kinda BS. The tests aren't really reliable since most people don't learn the same way. My fiancé IQ is apparently around 150 or so, but he never brings it up bc he, "never uses it for anything". It doesn't really impact your life.
@sylvrwolflol
@sylvrwolflol Год назад
IQ is kinda like a measurement of the max clock speed on your brain. Having a higher IQ basically just means that you can theoretically grasp new concepts and parse new knowledge faster. That said, everyone is different and even someone with a _legitimately_ genius-level IQ may struggle with certain things that you may not. My IQ is 154, which is pretty far above average. That does not automatically make me more knowledgeable in any subject than someone who has studied that subject for years. I will still take a second to process what you just said to me. I still can't solve word scrambles to save my life. What it does for me is make it so that I may not need to study very hard in order to pick up new things, and even then it's not a real advantage over someone who's just naturally inclined towards that thing. Having a high IQ does not automatically make you smart, and being smart does not automatically make you right. You can pull up all the numbers in the world and still be an ignorant jackass, and you don't need to be a damn MENSA member to see that.

Actual science boys and gals are pretty humble creatures because their jobs require having a network of people you can ask to explain stuff to you because you can only really become a expert on a tiny slice of a tiny slice of science, so behaviour like this would just lead to you being cut off and incapable of doing work because you'd stumble on a problem your toolkit can't help you solve and have no one to ask for help because you basically antagonized anyone willing to help you.
@SplotchTheCatThing
@SplotchTheCatThing 10 месяцев назад
Plus, if you do manage to do something noteworthy, someone else is gonna eventually come along and refine your work to the point where they basically prove every bit of what they did is either completely wrong, or such a massive oversimplification that it might as well be wrong. It might not happen in their lifetime, but if a scientist understands how science works, they know that this is what will need to happen to their own life's work for it to keep moving forward.

I think I used to be like this. Back in elementary school I was placed in the "advanced" section. I thought that meant I was smarter than my peers. What I learned after the fact was that what I actually have is a slightly above average memory. That slightly above average memory made me do well in early school. Which let me skate by without learning discipline. It wasn't until my senior year of highschool that I realized I was a just as much of a idiot as everyone else. The only difference is that I was struggling since I developed habits of laziness and wasn't punished for it until later on. I've made a lot of progress in terms of work ethic. Which has allowed me to recently graduate with a good Bachelors degree with very average grades. I'm an average guy with a very slightly above average memory. And it hurts with embarrassment thinking about how many years I spent as a kid thinking I was some kind of genius. I really wish someone had told me what a dumb little turd I was a little sooner. I think that I would have snapped out of being like that sooner if I'd heard that instead of how "special" I was.

0:29 I'd believe that one actually because that shit happens to ME. Like I had this idea that the reason why you appear to shrink as you approach the speed of light is because you only have a maximum possible speed through space-time. As you travel faster through space, you do so by changing your direction from moving full speed towards the future, to moving full speed towards another direction in space....which causes you to lose speed in the direction of time. And as a result of turning to face a dimension we can't normally see, your body appears to become compressed in the direction of your motion. Similar to how if you pick up a playing card, say a Jack, and start to turn the card sideways, the character appears to become compressed, until it disappears entirely as you're looking at the straight edge of the card. Aaaaaaand come to find out that's exactly what happens. Just with a lot of math to back it up, so it doesn't sound like a pot-fueled shower thought.

I was born waaay back in 1979…we grew up/were taught that the “ATM” is a “MAC” machine. I haven’t heard anyone, even a “boomer”, say “MAC” in many moons. Fun Facts: We called it that because they used to all have a little multi colored stripe on their sign with the letters M A C largely printed and backlit.

30:29 to be fair to the poster, it’s a common joke among online autistic and ADHD communities that we can be totally incomprehensible, especially to neurotypical people, when talking about our special interests, because we use sciencey jargon or fake fandom words or whatever. this post is probably excessively obtuse on purpose as a joke about it.

3:56 a GED is for someone who never properly completed high school, so good for him I guess. ASVQB scores are measured in percentiles, so good job being worse than 120 out of 100 people. The president thing is just a fancy way of saying 95 GPA on a 100 point scale, it isn't possible to earn "multiple degrees by age 16" (not with a 164 IQ, at least. Try >350) Edit: My bad, he said _line_ scores for the ASVAB. Basically, the ASVAB is a military test in the US for certain jobs, I'm not gonna get into it, but the line scores basically add together 2 testing categories to see how well you would fit in a certain job, so 120s in those categories would be 60s in the subcategories, putting him in the low-to-mid 90s for percentiles. Also, I got it backwards, obviously 120s percentiles would be better than 120 out of 100 people, not worse. This is not a significant achievement considering that I, probably the 20-30th smartest person in my ~800 person school, got a 99th percentile in 7/11 categories, and many kids got that in more. Basically high scores in the AS(S)VAB mean jack shit. Unless you're going into the military.

16:34 the whole ‘reading harry potter before you turned 12’ thing is actually pretty funny and accurate. I myself read the harry potter books before I turned 12, but I dont use that to brag about ‘how smort i is’, because like- that wasnt uncommon. I usually use it as a way to laugh at myself and how obsessed I was with the series. Anyone who tries to use ‘i read harry potter’ as an argument come off as smart is so silly. Like, wow, you read an engaging story thats meant to be fun- and you had fun? Shocker.

A truly smart person can explain stuff in a simple manner which others can understand. If you can't explain a subject in a simpler form then you probably don't understand that subject as much as you think. This is why anyone who insult others intelligence for not understanding their subject is probably does not understand it fully themselves. In short never tell someone they are to stupid to understand as it usually just means you lack the knowledge to explain. Best way to see if someone is truly smart is to act dumb and try to get them to explain something to you
@Steam-D
@Steam-D Год назад
There is a difference between knowledgeable and smart, but I can see your point. Being smart but not knowing how to formulate your thoughts is not ideal, and it is very important to learn conversarional skills through practise if you want to explain anything in great detail. It also makes you seem smarter.
