r/Maliciouscompliance In today's episode, OP is a young woman working for her grandfather's company. A new male hire comes in, and OP has to train the new employee on safety regulations. For some reason, the guy flips out when OP starts the training and screams that he doesn't take orders from little girls. Hey dude, maybe it's not a good idea to scream at the company owner's granddaughter. When the CEO found out, he let his daughter fire the guy! Instant karma! I actually had a similar story with the boots from high school. tl;dr : I wore boots, got in trouble, and then got back out of trouble with permission to wear boots. My school had a dress code but their rules on footwear came down to basically “close-toed, school colors (black, white, and/or maroon), and no stiletto high heels”. I had several pairs of shoes that adhered to this policy perfectly (mom was a teacher and always made sure I wouldn’t be *breaking* dress code) including my favorite pairs of converse. But one day I couldn’t find my converse anywhere (I really need to organize my closet) so I grabbed my favorite black combat boots and wore those. It was on a Friday, which meant students could wear pants and shirts that weren’t the uniform. But the shoe rule still applied. My combat boots adhered to the policy better than half of the other students’ shoes. There had been kids given dress code violations for having laces that were the wrong color before. My boots were completely black, no other colors. So I knew they’d be within the laws of the dress code. I get to school, a couple friends say they like my boots, homeroom teacher doesn’t comment (he never payed attention, he probably didn’t even see), first period teacher doesn’t comment, third period teacher compliments them, all seems fine! And then, when walking through the halls to my mom’s classroom (my lunch was there) I was stopped by a random middle school teacher who I’d never really talked to and didn’t remember the name of. She told me my boots were violating the dress code and I could either change shoes or get a citation (three citations = detention. I had none at that point and wanted to keep it that way). I obviously didn’t have another pair of shoes at school, and I didn’t know what to do. Hallelujah, mom came looking for me because I hadn’t shown up to grab my lunch (she was on lunch too) she comes up and greets the other teacher, the exchange a few pleasantries, and then when I slowly turn to walk away, the other teacher refocuses and tells me that if I don’t have a different pair of shoes, she’ll write me up. Wrong thing to say right in front of mom. She may be a teacher and be careful about me and my sibling adhering to the dress code, but she isn’t overly strict and she knows my boots are fine. Mom got soooo mad at her. It wasn’t obvious there, she politely argued that they were within dress code and the other teacher gave up when I said I could pull up the student handbook (I had read it, I was fine). Mom smiled and they said their goodbyes. The outcome of the whole event was twofold: 1. I got to wear my boots at school from then on with no issues. I still wore converse most of the time anyways. 2. I had an interesting new string of curse words to use after the car ride home that day.

So my grandmother has a lot of cats, and one of her neighbors happens to also LOVE cats. So much that she regularly attempts to STEAL her cats. The first instance was when my cousin had to give away her cat. My grandmother was happy to take the cat, she was a really sweet cat. The cat went missing shortly after and a few months later a familiar looking cat showed up on her neighbors porch. She couldn't prove it was hers, but based on her invading her property and trying to steal several other cats it was highly likely. One of my grandmother cats is named Nancy. She's a sweet cat, and has kittens a lot. Whenever this is near happening the neighbor will be on the property trying to book it with Nancy. It's gotten to a point that whenever kittens are about to come she has to lock them up. Another time the vet gave her two kittens in a cage. My grandmother had to run errands so she left the kittens on her porch. (She had a screened in porch so it was perfectly safe for the cats.) She returns to a woman on her porch trying to take the cage. She goes over to tell her that those are HER cats and the neighbor ACTUALLY tries to DEFEND herself. How do you even defend that? The only other time I remember is when she actually got away with taking Nancy. My grandmother confronted her about this, and the neighbor said- "No this is my cat Mooglely." My grandmother repeated that that was HER cat Nancy, and was eventually able to get her back. This happened all the time, so I can't fit everything, but now my grandmother has moved and it isn't a problem anymore. I have my own little kitten at home and I am just so glad I don't have to deal with somebody like that.

That first story.. really hits home for me. I grew up in similar physical conditions from my parents not cleaning up after our cats and dogs. I wasn't beaten like OP, though there was constant fighting, screaming, lots of neglect, and a few isolated incidents of physical abuse. I didn't have siblings or other close friends or family since 1. I was never able to have anyone over and am very very shy and 2. the rest of my family is either far away/alienated or just as bad as my parents. I wish there had been someone there to get me out.. good on OP for making it out and getting a chance at a normal life.

'If it ain't broke, don't fix it.' I can agree to that. During my first job, the manager I signed on to work under, suddenly had to leave because of family stuff, so we had like ten different managers rotating in and out to fill in until we got a new permanent manager. Each one had their own ideals on the rules, how to follow them, which ones they were lenient or strict on, and how to set up the store. One of them rearranged everything, including moving stands and stock around and one of them took away chairs at certain stations where chairs were necessary, because sitting made us look lazy, even though with the absence of chairs, most of us now had to hunch over to reach what we were working on, and there were quite a few of us who couldn't stand for long periods of time, or who had gone through surgery and were supposed to sit down as much as they could. Manager didn't care. I didn't stay at that job very long.

The last one reminded me of the time how when I was 2-4 and me and my brother were at our grandma's house and she let us jump on her bed and my bro pushed me off or hurt me or something and Grandma said I could spank him. I was kinda upset so I didn't want to but even though I kinda regret my desision a little, it probably wouldn't have hurt very much. Also my cat is currently folded in half taking a nap and purring.

Omg, I understand the "new manager" drama b.s. I got a new manager at the place I work a couple months ago, and THE DAY THE OLD MANAGER LEFT, the new manager immediately started to make changes, most of them the placement of items on the shelves of the store. We had spent a year and a half optimizing where things should be that would catch the eye of customers. Now, instead of things being bought only a week after being put out, they're sitting there not even being looked at. Also, I'm the only one still left working there from a tightnit group. It's not even fun to work there anymore, the new manager has everyone so tightly wound up..

Second story. Op... are you me? The few months my mom and I lived in an apartment the people above us let their toddler, run, jump, stomp, and scream all day and way later into the night than he ever should have been awake. I finally went upstairs and politely mentioned it to them. The mother sort of apologized then immediately excused the behavior as her toddler 'watching football'. The noise didn't stop until they thankfully moved out a couple months later, and Mom and I moved out not long after.

I’m a coder and have been for 16 years. Just recently, they made a rota making us do other jobs that were totally new to us and put other people on the job so that they could do any job even though they had no idea how to actually code and the training for the type of coding we do and it’s very important to get it right and hugely complicated. It’s a dangerous game but I can’t divulge what type of coding it’s for. I’m just waiting for the day when it goes horribly wrong. I have a sociopath for a parent and had a similar-ish experience to the first story. My parent was emotionally and verbally abusive for most of my life while physically and sexually abusing my other parent, who eventually left when I was in my late teens. So, I was staying with my abusive parent because custody and shit, and we get into some stupid disagreement. Socio screams at me and I take a walk, but when I leave they call my phone to yell at me and tell me, word for word, "If this is how you're going to act, you can find another place to live!" To which I said, okay! I went to my other parent's house while said parent was out of town, had my sibling put my stuff on the curb where I picked it up, and I never went back. Socio threatened to break in and drag me back, and to this day claims they never kicked me out.

The best way to teach your kids to read isn't to sit them at a desk and play tricks with their heads. No, not even if you do it like a real school and not first OP's mom's crazy Agatha Trunchbull impression. What's the best way? Just read to them. My parents never gave me reading lessons. Dad read me Tom Sawyer and other homey classics and I started following along because I liked it.
