I’m German and I’ve seen the posting about the church on Reddit and answered my suspicions there already. My suspicion is, that that priest pocketed the 2nd half for himself. Like, he not just scammed OP but also the church. Why do I suspect that? Well, even though I’m non religious now, I was actually raised catholic. If you register yourself as member of one of the recognised religions in Germany you pay “church tax“. Meaning a part of your pay cheque goes automatically to your church. Obviously churches therefore have an administration. Now if there are things like repairs and such, you bring the receipts there and it’s (as far as I remember) either fully or mostly paid by taxes. In other words churches are NOT private institutions like in the US. So my suspicion is, that the priest paid op half, but gave the full bill as receipt and pocketed the difference. And OP’s original review stating that he wasn’t paid could have gotten him in hot water. Now he just can’t do the same to others anymore, hence the pissed phone call.

Chrysler Jeep Dodge seems to be at the top but many other brands are also included. They describe much of what OP went through. @benjiro8793
@benjiro8793 4 месяца назад
Remember that OP said that buying in the neighboring state nets a 3 a 5K difference. So if we take the 4 year depreciation cost, then the fact that a second hand car will be more expensive in his state (higher base starting price = higher second hand value). He is probably selling them at a slight loss but in return gets a brand new car every 4 years. So he skips on most costs like tires/breaks/... and other things that will start to appear around that time. Hold a car too long, and sure, you can get another 4 a 8 years out of it, but at that point you may start to enter the major repairs (clutch, whatever) range. And that same car has then much more heavily depreciated (way older and more kms). Car second hand sales values are not a smooth line down, its a curve downwards, high value at start, but as age + km rack up, that drops a lot more. The same rule applies to IT, if you keep holding your computer parts too long, they are harder to sell and the depreciation a lot more. But time it right, you can snap up some deals on new hardware, but still sell your old, and upgrade to a new generation for a small up-fee.

A little extra context for anyone who doesn't know, I'm pretty sure Joseph of Nazareth, husband of Mary, the mother of Jesus, was a carpenter and Jesus himself would likely have been taught carpentry himself as a child. So yes, it is extra ironic that a church would screw over a carpenter

as an ICT Specialist and havgin done this for amny of my cutomers it costs between 1-2K to get rid of a bad google review. this process is done through the courts where the company with the bad review uses a company that deals with google and these reviews are treated like slander, and since most ppople dont show up to defend their bad review in court they get taken down in 99% of the cases.. so ontop of that 50k they would have spend double that removing the bad google reviews.. the price i have is from 2023 so might be a little less depending on when the story happened.

That is not German law - not even close. just for example being paid in cash: it would have been on the church to proof they paid in cash, because if they did they would have received an invoice confirming their payment.

Wow, the guy that left a bad review is lucky. I left a bad review for a company that jerked me over and since some of the communication was verbal and he held the security footage and could trash it, I could only prove part of it. He threatened to take me to court. I posted a new one with the things I could prove after I contacted them back and gave them another chance to remedy the situation and they ghosted me. Ironic, since that's basically what they did the whole time they had my computer, but suddenly had the time to call an hour after they got a yelp review.

Hi, auto dealer here, op handled his situation poorly. Bait and switch is an illegal practice in, I believe, every state. Even still, breach of contract IS. If pursued in court, which could have been done without a lawyer and in his home state, he would most likely have gotten the deposit, travel, hotel, food, all tripled then interest at ~9% for the time they DIDNT pay the judgment

Story #2: Yeah.. Sadly that's true. That's why you don't use an account that's tracable to YOU when you leave a review in Germany! The principle of "innocent until proven guilty" applies to reviews also. And if you can't proove, that they did, what you say in the review it's considered slender. But for heavens sake! It makes me sick to see, that in Germany, that's allegedly a secular state the (cath.) still has too much influence in the government. It makes me sick, thinking about that, in Germany, ONLY the catholic church is allowed to punish their priests for crimes as they see fit! It's some medieval law that allows the church to deal with (e.g. Ch1ld m0l3st3rs) as THEY see fit and the government can't or won't do anything about it! It's just sick, when you know, that they can hurt kids and get away with it because of an medieval law!

story 1 is fishy. op has enough money to purchase a new car every 3-4 years, but not enough for a lawyer? op is concerned about 750$ on the wasted trip, but not the 1k deposit? if op signed a contract, then why did they not contact a lawyer for the breach of contract? would have been an easy win. seems far too fake.
