Radagon is a Mimic of Marika | Elden Ring Lore

This lore theory about Radagon being a mimic of Marika is basically canon in my mind. I have been sitting on the idea for months and as I absorbed more and more of the game's lore nothing seemed to contradict it, it just fits so smoothly with everything else. Actually I just kept finding subtle hints that allude to it.
More lore videos coming soon, one big one about what I can only describe as the "main" plot that leads to the game's event. And also some more shorter (and absurd) videos.

I like this theory. It also adds up with how the Finger Slayer Blade looks like a distorted Sacred Relic Sword- the sword the elden beast made from Radagon's body. Since you find the Finger Slayer Blade in Nokron, its possible that their attempts to make a lord resulted in them using the mimic lord to make fingerslayer blades- weapons that can harm the Greater Will and its vassals. Marika might have simply taken her mimic and made him a lord, with the intent to use him to make a weapon to defy the Greater Will, but her plan fell apart when she was imprisoned.

Marvelous theory! It offers an explenation to why Radegon became the next Elden Lord yet lore-wise seemed to have come out of nowhere, unlike Godfrey or Marika herself. It also shines different light on one of my favorite somber item description: "As the husband of Rennala, the red-haired Radagon studied sorcery, and as the husband of Queen Marika, he studied incantations. Thus did the hero aspire to be complete." The very last line especially envoced to me that Radegon felt like he wasn't enough. That perhaps to live up to the mantel of Elden Lord he strived for perfection. But in the context of your theory, it seems he may've been trying to find himself, to be his own individual and more than just a copy of Marika. "Aspire to be complete" suddenly sounds like a wish to be more than just an echo of another being but a being in its own right.
@eveykhan

It also puts into perspective that the secret message in the capital says Radagon is Marika, and not the other way around.
@kumorineleo
@kumorineleo Год назад
i've been thinking about this theory for days, and I think Radagon as Marika's mimic is made more convincing because it parallels a lot of things with Sekiro's lore. The Senpou monks separated from Ashina up on the mountains were trying to make a copy of the Divine Heir. They ended up with hundreds of failures (and dead children) until they got it right once. That was what the Divine Child of Rejuvenation, and she also shares Kuro's ability to access the powers of the Divine Dragon (like she can grant Sekiro another resurrection node when given the Sakura Droplet). The Divine Child of Rejuvenation is a successful copy of Kuro, just like how Radagon was. In the Dragon return ending in Sekiro, Kuro is merged inside The Divine Child, and they become one. I saw somewhere that the development for Elden Ring was concurrent with the development of Sekiro, and perhaps the themes in Sekiro influenced the development of the lore behind Marika and Radagon.

the theory makes a lot of sense given what amber is in the game and how important its role is. amber itself probably deserves its own video as there are many different kinds and mentions in different items but as far as I can tell there are two main types: 1. "standard" amber as in being tree sap from the Erdtree (or Haligtree alternatively) that has magical properties as it is basically liquid gold. you have the 3 amber medallions made from this as well as some equipment having amber (miquellan Knight sword, silver mirrorshield) and then the amber egg itself which is like a giant drop of sap. it's "similar" to real world amber as that is fossilized tree sap, think back to Jurassic Park which had this amber drop that has a mosquito inside from which they were able to recreate dinsosaurs using DNA. I believe that's also what connects the amber to what Sellen mentions as it "contains the remnants of ancient life, and houses its vitality", but probably in a more abstract way. 2. amber of the stars. this is a weird concept as it uses the metaphor of amber in connection with some type of lifeforce associated with the stars. Founding Rain of Stars speaks of "The glimpse of the primeval current that the astrologer saw became real, and the stars' amber rained down on this land". you have items such as the Amber Starlight and Amber Draught, Raya Lucarian Robe or Olivinus Glintstone Crown that all tell us a similar tale "glintstones formed from starry amber" as well as the mentioned dialogue with Sellen in which she compares Golden amber with the star's amber essentially saying they both house a form of life. "Glintstone is the amber of the cosmos. Golden amber contains the remnants of ancient life, and houses its vitality, while glintstone contains residual life, and thus the vitality of the stars. It should not be forgotten, that glintstone sorcery is the study of the stars, and the life therein." in japanese the whole simile becomes a lot clearer as the words she uses to describe both are the same, while she uses different terms when talking about golden amber and star's amber in english (giving the impression there is some difference in the quality of life force). one could theorize that there is actually no difference between Golden amber and star's amber as both essentially come from space, the Golden amber more indirectly in form of the golden star with the elden beast which then turned into a tree that produced the amber. the question is why the game calls it star's amber. it's an odd metaphor and I am wondering if it is to be taken literal (as this is cosmic fossilized tree sap) or not. either way it's an interesting background for the amber egg IMO.

Agreed about the connection between stars and more traditional tree amber. The whole thing echoes the central twist of Demon Souls, everything ties back to The Old One. Both miracles (incantations) and magic (sorceries) draw power from the same thing. It is all The Greater Will.

If this is all true, and the hair in the amber egg is supposed to be there, then that implies that the Fire Giants were the original ancient life of the lands between. Giants gave way to beastmen, and then men, who eventually tried to eradicate the giants and claim divinity. If so, then it's highly probably that Marika either found or created the egg to create Radagon. Perhaps she thought that introducing Fire Giant blood into her lineage would increase their power/divine status? Or if she just found the amber egg, then maybe she just didn't know it was there when she used it to create Radagon. That might explain why he is so ashamed of his red hair: from his perspective he wanted to be a perfect male copy, but ended up "imperfect" with red hair instead of blonde.

The discovery of those red locks in the amber egg is wild! As far as Radagon being created by the great rune of the unborn, ie the amber egg, i think there are things to consider. Radagon led two wars against the Carians before marrying Renala, so he was created before this. Also, the amber egg is unique, as it's the great rune of the unborn, but doesn't resemble the other great runes that the demi gods claimed after the shattering. Instead it's encased in amber, presumably from the Erd tree. I think, as a supreme Nox with life crafting talent, Marika as the leader of the golden order used gold (the rune, the amber) instead of silver to create a golden lord, Radagon, a true equal that could match her gifts. As the major conflicts at the birth of the golden order were winding down, she found herself needing Godfrey and his barbarism less and less (he even took on the beast serosh to quell his lust for battle). With Radagon a distinct entity living within her, Marika could leverage a warrior and academician Lord, while also knowing exactly what they were up to. Finally, we know Radagon is somehow linked to the fire giants. I would think that in the war against the fire giants, Marika realized their incredible power, and saved some of their hair, which she added to the amber egg when creating Radagon. Not only would he hopefully gain some of their strength, but just practically it would give him red hair as opposed to Marika's blonde hair, further differentiating them.

I can see that as well given how fluid and changeable character build can be over the course of gameplay, not to mention how we alone are able to harness and use the power of the demigods where others had failed. We basically become the culmination of all the demigods, and in turn accomplish what we (may have) been created for. Hard to say.

I love this theory, there is just enough there to put belief into my head but not quite enough to consider it concrete evidence. Though the only thing that still gets me is that when we fight Radagon, he literally changes from Marika to Radagon before our very eyes. If it is indeed a mimic tear pretending to be both, then where is the real Marika? I hope the new DLC is able to answer some of these questions. Even paintings are unreliable. One of them draws Radahn smaller than Margit. The other draws him larger than Malenia. 3. Even video clips like Malenia's fight with Radahn is just a myth. It shows calid in red scarlet rot BEFORE malenia blooms! 4. You'd think gameplay experience could be reliable. but what about the fights with Renala or Elden beast? how did the eternal cities wind-up underground? @@gwenori7656 In this post, I'll try to answer your question in three sections: ==Introduction== There are many videos with extremely careful analysis on this topic. example: y2u.be/WBCutl_C6XE Radagon is not mentioned before the Liurnian wars, but he is suddenly mentioned as a "champion" of the golded order. When did he become a champion? how did he achieve leadership in the war? the above video explains in length that 1. Radagon's hair color is identical to that of the giants 2. Radagon's thorn spells is similar to that of the trolls 3. Radagon's followers in Liurnia and mountaintop fire monks use the same spells. 4. The war with giants was before the Liurnian war From this, people conclude: Radagon existed before the Liurnian war. he either participated in the war with giants, or learned the thorn skills that killed giants from the trolls or knights in that war, then rose through the ranks to become a champion in the first Liurnian wars. ==Two problems== The 1st problem: Rulers of the golden order like Marika, Godfrey, Godwin, even Godrick are white haired, but were blessed with golden hair by the amber grace of the Erdtree. A sign of blessing by the greater will. Even Melina has that. But in the frenzied flame ending, she loses the golden right-eye color and is left with white eyes. But radagon's hair is identical to fire giants' hair. that's the color of the giants and the fell god. the great threat vs and enemy of the Erdtree. Every giant is red of hair, and Radagon was said to have despised his own red locks. Perhaps that was a curse of their kind." -- gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/265987-elden-ring/79998509?page=2 the 2nd problem: One eyed shield item description says: "...one-eyed god ... once worshiped by the giants is believed to have been slain by queen Marika." Again not true. We fight the one-eyed god. another item description says Marika cursed a giant to tend to the flames for eternity. problem is that the one-eyed god is on the cursed giant's chest and wakes up in the second phase of the fight People have suspected if Marika is able to curse the one-eyed god for eternity, then why did the one eyed god did not curse her back?? ==One solution== "It is implied his hair color is the result of a curse by the fire giants, all of whom possess red hair, and might have cursed Radagon after Marika waged war against them." -- eldenring.fandom.com/wiki/Radagon From there people have concluded that if Marika didn't kill the one-eyed god and cursed the last giant, the one-eyed god might have also cursed Marika. As you said: "Nothing refers to Marika's hair turning red". But the game explicitly says "Radagon is Marika".

@@armandaneshjoo Alright... If you don't trust ANYTHING the game is showing you or telling you then I don't understand how you can even begin to form conclusions on any topic whatsoever. Your evidence is "gameplay experience" yet you're clearing saying you don't trust gameplay elements either? I agree that there are still a LOT of questions unanswered, and some things don't make much sense yet (which is usually the case in any fromsoft lore), but you can't just disgard things you don't understand (or don't fit a certain narrative) and deem them false or untrustworthy? Figuring out the lore of the game is all about making sense of what the game has given us: dialogue, items, gameplay, ingame objects/paintings/architecture etc. and constructing theories out of those elements. The moment you're disregarding what the game literally shows you or tells you, then you're just constructing an imaginary idea, that might be fun or good in its own right, but is probably very far from what the game's lore is.

Kosmos, I'm a bit late on watching your videos, but I heard about you from Tarnished Archeologist. I think you're correct about most of what you say in your videos, but this Theory is by far the most unique and coolest I've heard. To go another step further: The theories in this video makes me think that the Nox/Numen weren't just trying to create an Artificial-Lord, I now think the "All-Women" people of Nox experienced some sort of Calamity that caused all of their Men to go extinct (that's probably what all the petrified bodies in their Cities are). I think they were desperately trying to create an Artificial-Lord specifically to sire a new generation of natural-birth Humans. The Latenna side-quest, where she drops the "seed" off at the giant "sleeping" woman near Miquella's Tree, is never really explained at all AFAIK. Maybe only the larger "Albinuaric"/Noxian/Numen women are true "First-Gen" Humans, and hence they are the only ones capable of properly reproducing. Maybe "Numen" is an even more literal term than we think, and they were called that because the All-Female culture had set off to new lands in search of "New Men", who could help keep their culture from going extinct.

This is what I was thinking for a while, too. You could come up with a buunch of other sci-fi stuff, like alien cloning or some godly psychology powers of something like others have tried. But From Software try to keep their lore contained, so I figured Radagon's origin had to be connected to the mimic tears, because the items connected to them all talk about their use and purpose for creating clones, even of high level beings like lords or gods. As for "Why" Marika and Radagon ended up having different loyalties, I think that can also be traced to Goldmask and his mending rune of Perfect Order, which talks about how the Golden Order was destroyed thanks to the fickle nature of the gods who behaved no different than normal humans. Marika was selfish, and so were the demigods, especially Ranni. Marika wanted to live in power forever, and she wanted absolute control over who could live or die, which is why she hid away the Death Rune. Later on, Ranni seemed to develop a hatred for Radagon and Marika, and even the Golden Order and the Greater Will, most likely because of how they humiliated Queen Rennala, Ranni's mother. Radagon's departure (probably tempted by the idea of reuniting with Marika and becoming a true god) broke Rennala and she was locked away, becoming a husk of what she used to be, as even Ranni talks about how amazing her mother was in her prime during the Rennala boss fight. In the end, Ranni needed to kill a god in order to break away from the Greater Will, and she specifically targeted Marika's dearest child, Godwyn the Golden. Ranni got her revenge and left Marika in misery. Marika became disillusioned with the Greater Will because it did not help her protect or revive the dead Godwyn, and so Marika sank into despair and shattered the Elden Ring. Radagon, of course, did not know the despair Marika was going through and thought she was overreacting as he did not lose his dearest child, and so he tried to stop Marika, but was too late. All the major problems in Elden Ring's main story stem from their human fickleness, despite being "gods": Marika's desire to be in absolute control, Radagon's desire to become a true god, and Ranni's thirst for revenge.

Also his bathing in celestial dew at his wedding, the literal original ingredient of mimics. And the Glintstone Kris made after their wedding that hints of Caria having some insider knowledge to a secret of the golden order, and the fact that mages loyal to Radagon would be bound to secrecy and silence by his rune.

Been tossing this idea a lot with Radagon, glad to see others are seeing the links. Marika herself has a ton of traits akin to a Mimic herself. I've always been of the mind that Marika is just as much of a Mimic Tear as Radagon, but that both are vying to subsume the other. There are often references in the game about the copy taking the place of the original, the oddest of all being the Lost Ashes of War description, almost as a subtle nod to the endgame reveal of Radagon and Marika. That being the case, you can honestly see some odd details about children sired under Marika. Take Morgott's Cursed Sword for example. Have you paid attention to the hilt of that blade? It's remarkable similar to the Albinauric Staff's surface, with the blade portion itself having a distorted visual like you see on the surface of Mimic Tears. Even Mohg technically has some amorphous properties himself, melting and solidifying from blood, even sprouting out wings in his phase 2. Miquella has some curious links to the Albinaurics. I dunno if you noticed, but given Radagon (and Marika) being Mimic Tears, it'd add a lot to why Albinaurics (who are likely to be Demigod bastards born of the Amber Egg) are seen transforming into cocoons just like Miquella: They all essentially share a similar genealogy to each other. Rykard is an especially interesting one because his body is pretty much "melted" and has even "melted down" the various Champions he consumes. If he's also got Mimic Tear hereditary traits, it'd explain why he was able to essentially coexist with the Serpent, Asimi does the exact same thing with us, same with Radagon and Marika. So many little details and traits of the Demigods can be broken down as akin to the Mimic Tear's versatility in transformation. Here's a huge hint to link a huge family tree together: If you see traits of a blended nature, you can probably thank Marika's bloodline for that. And for that, even our Tarnished may very well descend from Marika. After all, we can change our appearance relatively freely too. Ask me about this one, our Tarnished in particular has so many odd details that would lend to them being a Mimic Tear too.

@@Kosmos_er This is fairly "vibe" based but I'll give you what I have. There are some early hints that lead up to this. Namely, we do start off waking up on a stone platform before entering the Lands Between proper. If you recall, Marika and Radagon are both found on a Stone Platform within the Erdtree. This is me speculating but given how we are a "newborn" in the Lands Between, it is somewhat fitting that we see clusters of Nascent Butterflies should we manage to defeat the Grafted Scion at the Chapel of Anticipation. This is thematically amazing to me because the Grafted Scions are extremely distant offshoots of Marika's lineage. And here we have two descendants of Marika duking it out from the very start. Then there's the character creation menu. We get origins like "Numen" and "Nightfolk" and potentially even Warrior if you wanna go further and say you're a bastard of the Golden Lineage. All that alone is an explicit clue in favor of contextualizing gameplay features as parts of the world (which the game does a lot honestly) but as you can see with the Mimic Tears at Night's Sacred Ground, a Mimic Tear doesn't necessarily copy precisely, some retain individual traits unique to them. Given Radagon is likely a Mimic Tear, that adds up with why he's a touch different looking than Marika. We could be doing the very same thing at the start of the game too. Irregardless, the character creation menu is more akin to a hint to you being a mimic given how you can change appearances all the time really: You're functionally mimicking your starting class just like the Mimic Tears in Night's Sacred Ground do, you just don't have the pigmentation. Rennala's dialogue is the most explicit with these hints, calling us fair (an old way of saying "pale" in ye ol' times) and even refers to the Larval Tears as such when you use them during a rebirth. This is to say nothing in regards of how Silver Tears are often said to be reborn eternally as they shed their husks. We essentially do the same upon Death and using the Amber Egg. If you notice, a ton of Radagon's story parallels the our Tarnished's story as we play: We start out as a mere Champion born from Marika, yet are beckoned by Marika to become Elden Lord after doing her work (Stop Rennala, stop the Greater Will, etc). This even ends up becoming extremely cyclical (and off-putting) when you realize Ranni's marriage to us mirrors Radagon and Marika's far too uncomfortably given how we might also be a Mimic related to Marika. Speaking of the Amber Egg, it is curious how we can change our appearance just like a Mimic can seemingly at well. I first discounted this as just a gameplay feature with no lore behind it, but Rennala's Amber Egg allowing for cosmetic changes is such an odd detail to put that it seems more akin. She calls us a "sweeting" just like the Juvenile Scholars (heavily hinted to be underdeveloped Demigods since they're linked to the Amber Egg explicitly, even being born from it). And then there's the various hints that allude to double-meanings if you take us being a Mimic to heart: Namely the Silver Tear Mask Its description has a completely different meaning in regards to "imitating the imitator" when you consider us to be the Mimic: The Mimic Tear boss we fight in Nokron is copying us, the original "copycat" in that light. Then there's the subtle clue in the Silver Tear Husk that says one day, the Silver Tear will be reborn a Lord. Now, this is once again a nod to Radagon but as said before, his story parallels ours disturbingly so if you choose Ranni's ending. Very Game of Thrones of them, tbh. We also have Gideon's dialogue being a clue to what we may potentially be. He says a mere Tarnished cannot become Elden Lord and that a man cannot kill a god. Clearly, we do just that. So what gives? Why even have him say that in the first place? Well, to me it reads as an indicator that we are more than just a Tarnished, but a child of Marika. By rights, we would be a demigod, we even gather Great Runes after all, same as any other Demigod. The game does this often, where it doesn't explicitly tell you the implications of what you're doing even have in the context of the world's background. To add another allusion if we are a Mimic Tear, it makes us parallel the Albinauric Archers in Consecrated Snowfields who rely on their wolf mounts to get around. It'd be an exceptionally different (and less enjoyable) game if we did not have Torrent to help us in the Lands Between, we simply would not get around the same without him, paralleling the Albinaurics who cannot travel without their wolves, their "other halves" so to speak. Torrent would be our "wolf" by that respect. Then there's Enia's dialogue when she recounts the Two Fingers. Given how Radagon is literally "joined" with Marika by the end of the game, her saying "become consort and join Queen Marika" is given a far different meaning in that regard too. Again, a ton of dialogue and descriptions potentially reveal a fair amount of insight when you go in with the idea that your Tarnished is a Mimic Tear.

The red locks inside the amber egg are interesting because I speculated some months ago that Rennala never did the dirty with Radagon but actually surrogated demigod children using her powers on the amber egg. I found it strange they had demigod children when Rennala isn't a demigod and Radagon didn't ascend to godhood until he joined Marika. But if he's a copy of Marika and the red locks provide his DNA then it adds up. And if I'm seeing it right then the red locks gradually turns white which explains why Rykard's hair is white in all of his pre-snake depictions.

Magnum opus. i.e. To become the Rebis. see y2u.be/zI_aqDgtW1w 3. To join animus with anima. 4. To become the philosopher's stone. To be able to turn everything into gold, i.e. life, ... Radagon being Marika's mimic to produce empyreans seems very plausible, at least to me, especially after watching Tarnished Archaeologists' channel (if you know you know, lol). I think you are on the right path, but I would argue Marika is the mimic. We know Radagon can not be a mimic or a creation of the Nox since he was a peasant laborer who led a revolt in Stormveil. As much can be deduced from The Brick Hammer item description combined with Miriel's dialogue. Brick Hammer item description: "Weapon made from an ordinary stone brick. Wielded by a laborer who lead a rebellion, and later become a champion himself." The wielder was of low birth, which Miriel says of Radagon and can be deduced from his red hair. The wielder was also a champion, which Miriel also says of Radagon. The item description continues: "Even among other bludgeons of its size, this weapon is especially weighty. The strength of a giant is required to wield it". So we know the wielder must have been a giant, which the Giant's Red Braid states that Radagon is. Miriel's dialogue and the braid's description taken together, its clear Radagon is the most likely candidate for the previous owner of the Brick Hammer. Being a laborer wielding a large hammer, it is possible Radagon served as a blacksmith, which would make sense given that smithing being holy is a theme which dates back to Dark Souls. If anyone is a mimic it is Marika, which makes sense since, as you note, she and the Nox are both numen. In the Asimi quest, an item description would have stated that Asimi "grant power" to the host they infect, which lines up perfectly with Marika telling Radagon that he will become a God when they become one, thus granting him her power. As you also note, the item known as the Mimic's Veil is also known as "Marika's Mischief", clearly tying Marika to mimcry / mimic magic. Again, given Radagon's likely origin as a laborer in Stormveil who turned champion, Marika being a mimic is more likely. We assume that by "lord", the Nox are intending to create a man, but why? The Nox are clearly matriarchal. More likely, they created Marika when they served The Greater Will at the now destroyed Nameless Eternal City.
@Kosmos_er
@Kosmos_er Год назад
The issue with marika being the mimic is that she is tool old and who would she be a mimic off. It's important to remember that radagon is marika and not the other way around. The reason the eternal city would need to craft a lord (a man) is simple because gender in elden ring is specifically associated with some roles. This goes back to the alchemical principle of uniting opposites and how some material are feminine or masculine. The gods in elden ring are female (to the point where miquella who is born a boy is transforming into a women as he matures in his adult form ) and the elden lords are male. The eternal city wanted to craft a lord not a god (because marika is already a god) and so they would craft a male. As for radagon, him being a laborer in stormveil doesn't stop him from bein a mimic, infact it lines up perfectly with my own theory about the echo of marika in the grand lift of dectus: "The Erdtree governs all. The choice is thine. Become one with the order. Or divest thyself of it." This echo is marika adressing radagon after his "birth"
@davidgomez5032
@davidgomez5032 Год назад
@@Kosmos_er It really doesn't line up though. Why would Marika create Radagon and then simply send him off to live as a random peasant? Your own example of Miquella also disproves your argument that it couldn't be Marika because the Nox wanted a Lord. If there is precedent for a male Lord becoming a female God, then the same is possible of Marika. That would also tie perfectly into the cyclical nature of the world. Marika could have been made as a Lord (whether it be by the Nox or not) only to take advantage of her liquid form to transform to become a woman. EDIT: Maybe Marika transformed in a way related to the growth of The Erdtree, just as Miquella did with The Haligtree. Again, I also think you are skirting around the clear connection from the Asimi item description: "An intelligent silver sludge; asimi infect the body of tarnished, granting the host power." Asimi grant the host power, NOT the other way around. Marika specifically tells Radagon that he will be granted HER godhood when they become one. Radagon is Marika. Like the Asimi, Marika's essence influences Radagon, while his qualities being absorbed isn't mentioned. Marika could be a mimic of any number of people, such as The Gloam Eyed Queen, Renna, or literally any important figure from the Uhl or Ancient Dragon society (both of which likely worshiped numen). Another thing to consider is the recurring theme of SILVER specifically being associated with inferiority and mimicry. The Nox try their hardest time and time again to recreate the superior technology of The Ancient Dragons, but they are consistently held back by their lack of gold. While the SILVER Tears may require an actual lifeform to mimic, a similar being made with gold might not require an essence to leech off of, the gold already being life essence itself. That would also fit perfectly with the alchemical themes since femininity / silver are associated with formlessness and requiring the influence of masculinity / gold. I speculated the Nox could have created Marika in The Nameless City because, being near The Crucible/The Erdtree, we can assume the inhabitants of such a city would take advantage of the plentiful magical sap and amber. However, an alternative theory is that Mimic Tears themselves are simply cheap silver copies of a superior yet very similar ancient technology.

@@Kosmos_er As for further more speculative evidence, we need to do some quick history, assuming you don't already know all of this. Since the planet Venus can not be seen during certain times of the year, many ancient cultures did not recognize Venus as a single entity, and instead believed that the discontinuous sightings of Venus were separate objects. Worship of the seemingly several objects led to several gods being developed in the name of Venus, those beings often being of different genders. Radagon's rune, seen on his sore/scarseal as well as throughout the world, is clearly based off of one of the many symbols associated with worship of Venus, specifically the cross-hatch symbol for copper. Another of Venus' symbols is more strongly associated with femininity, that being the symbol we still use to this day to designate female. Marika's rune doesn't have such an obvious inspiration, but if one were to add an arc above that previously mentioned still used Venus symbol, they would get the symbol for Mercury. So while Marika's rune may not directly resemble the symbol for Mercury, both Marika's rune and the symbol for Mercury are actually depictions of a woman being crucified. There is more evidence for the connections, but with it established that Marika is associated with Mercury while Radagon is associated with copper, we can interpret their fusing as being directly analogous to the alchemical processes of combining copper and mercury. In such a combination (as well as in general), the mercury is in the form of a liquid while the copper is a solid, serving as further evidence that Marika could be somehow formless in a way like Asimi or the Silver Tears. In fact, copper and mercury are attracted to one another due to copper's electric charge, so they can fuse in soil (or maybe even in trees...) even without human intervention. Copper IS malleable, lending credence to the idea that Radagon could be a liquid being, but Mercury is obviously much more strongly associated with liquid formlessness. Mercury is also strongly associated with The Eternal Cities (see the mushrooms found there with a silvery oil-like substance) just as Marika is. The connections make themselves once you bring in alchemical symbolism.

@@Kosmos_er He wasn't a random person, he was a descendant of powerful giants and served as a blacksmith in Stormveil. He led a revolt and then later became a champion of war. As for why Marika would choose him, we know she has a propensity for ambitious men. The enemies of The Erdtree defeated, grace faded from Godfrey's eyes, but Radagon still had much to prove as "mere champion", on top of "aspiring to be complete" in a more spiritual intrapersonal way. I believe it is a sort of Moslow's Hierarchy of Needs situation. Once Marika had satisfied the more material need to secure The Erdtree by defeating its enemies, she turned to education and spirituality, choosing a more well-rounded mate. The concept of The Divine Hermaphrodite does refer to an ideal singular being, but that being is itself a sort of commentary on the ideal marriage, partners metaphorically becoming one through the union of marriage. Or, as speculated in another comment, the independent worship of various Venus gods synthesizing into one being after technological and scientific innovation led to the conclusive discovery of Venus. The theory is far from complete, as clearly Radagon also has some kind of relationship with The Fire Giants, The Crucible and The Misbegotten, but those connections are very vague and many items or descriptions related to those connections were cut / changed. The themes of things fracturing only to come together again do suggest that maybe Radagon was once part of Marika, so maybe you are right and these theories are not incompatible. I think a far simpler explanation is that she simply had him as a bastard son with a Fire Giant, but using the amber egg as a sort of surrogate womb is a possible explanation for how Marika could hide that she was pregnant with him and hide his red hair at birth. Personally, I would keep the amber egg and rebirth connection while scrapping the mimic angle in relation to Radagon. Marika could be a mimic and the ultimate product of The Nox (or a more ancient society that The Nox are simply imitating), while Radagon can be a reborn abomination, Marika's DNA being fused with a giant's DNA as the source of his Y chromosome. Critically, reborn creatures are NOT mimics, so I don't see how Radagon being a product of rebirth would suggest that he is a mimic to begin with. Rebirth requires the larval tear of a mimic, but reborn creatures are still distinct entities. Neither Rennala's reborn cripples or Boc transform in a puff of smoke as the mimics throughout the world do, nor do they actively infect or transform in a liquid state as Silver Tears do.

Hey, came here from Rage’s video and I was intrigued by the theory. Thanks for the vid and I love the theory. I think the most compelling part is the line from the mimic NPC and Melina’s quote of Marika talking about not yet being me. It really seems to fit. However, I did have two questions/problems which are stopping me from taking it as reality. 1. For me the most convincing parts of the theory come from cut content. It really depends why the quest line was cut. For example, in DS1, Quelaag had dialogue which was cut, and we were told it was because talking at you didn’t feel like it fit for her character. So the cut dialogue is more able to be taken for theories, as the issue with it wasn’t its content. But that’s very different from something being cut because they have changed the story or whatever. Obviously there was something wrong with the mimic quest line so it’s hard to have it as such a fundamental part of this theory. It could even be they saw the connection you are making and removed it cus they didn’t want this connection being made and throwing people off. It could of course also have been cut for dlc reasons, but that’s unanswerable yet. 2. The second thing, is Radagon’s hair. It is referenced so many times and so explicitly, I feel it must be key to understanding something about him. The giant’s locks item in particular. Your find of hair in the amber egg is really interesting. Are you implying the amber nature of the egg is what made the hair red? If so, I’m not sure that’s right. Amber could be described as orange, warm yellow, off gold etc. but I don’t think you can describe amber as red, which Radagon’s hair is, so specifically. So for me, I love the theory, but not fully convinced. Loved the video nonetheless and looking forward to your next.

1-To me the asimi cut questline is illustrative at best. The theory doesn't really rely on it if you ask me. 2-i am not implying the hair color comes from the egg, rather that I speculated that radagon was made with the egg, and the red hair inside was the hint fromsoft left us. I have no hard opinion on why radagons hair is red, it could be because he was infused with giants essence during his creation as other comments have proposed, or it simply shows how close he is to primordial gold/how strong his grace is.

Well , think you need to take account the red hair. It very distinct and related to the Fire Giants, game also implies this idea too. It is clear from the game that Golden Order did a assimilation spiritually, biologically and metaphysically etc and Fire Giants put hell of a fight so it make sense that with the loss of Godfrey they tried to replace that strength and I think put fire giants matter into the mix.

I think this was probably true at one point, early in development, and there is one very early concept art of Radagon with blond hair, but they changed his hair to red in order to insinuate he descended from giants and gave him a larger backstory with item descriptions. That's probably why they did away with the mimic tear storyline, because it no longer fit Marika and Radagon's story.

The thing with silver tears is that they look exactly like the person they mimic, or they have a silver tint/luster to them otherwise. Radagon doesn't do either of these. The amber egg could be the answer instead, but that still leaves the question of how there is still Marika then, because rebirthing transforms the original person, and does not make a copy of them. I'm not too sure I buy it just yet, but it has a good premise

Radagon trying to repair the elden ring seems odd if he's supposed to be a tool of the eternal cities, but maybe we are supposed to interpret him as going rogue by doing so, which would have been mirrored by the cut content mimic tear quest. It seems undeniable that Radagon is against whatever Marika's plan is, but in the game we got at release, Radagon being a mimic doesn't really answer why that is.

My theory is the egg is the ruin that belongs to Miquilla. He is forever reborn also why would she be deserving of a rune as a mortal.

It is clearly stated that the Giant's curse is eternal servitude. Perhaps she used the red hair of a giant to mark him with the same kind of curse, to keep him under control. But doesn't seem like it's a perfect control, since the Trolls, descendants of the Fire Giants, betrayed their ancestors and they have huge openings on their bellies, where the face of the Fell God should be.

I think ultimately Marika actually made it out. Radagon was imprisoned in her stead as a scapegoat in the Erdtree, while Marika cast away her body in a manner similar to Ranni and became Melina.

I think it's pretty clear that Marika created/fused with Radagon simply so that she could keep the Golden Lineage going. This would ensure that the royal fanily stays in power and that there's always a suitable heir to be Empyrean. Presumably because Marika can't reproduce by herself and thus needed a mate, but also a mate that's a copy of herself so as to still be considered one god. After all, Empyreans can only be born of a single god. I think the backstory of this game is a good example of Occam's Razor: the sinplest answer is probably the correct one.

I was playing with this idea too. I thought that Marika was a mimic, however, and that she rebirthed as Radagon to marry and control Rennala and the Carians by default. Kind of like a Queen that would marry her offspring to her enemies' offspring to create alliances by marriage.

My pet theory is that Melina IS Marika, she is only in spirit form and the Radagon automaton is her discarded shell. Melina is always talking about Marika's words, that's her ego quoting herself
