In this video i present to you my answer to a few lore points, all packaged in one single theory that connects it all. The connection between melina and ranni, who is the gloam eyed queen and the stolen fragement were all issues that i struggled with until this theory hit me. I hope you guys look forward to the next video where i'll actually express who i really think the gloam eyed queen is, and what that tells us about the start of the golden order.
I hope you will find it intresting.

By the end you propose Ranni took the eye from Maliketh, and that the GEQ was already defeated, there's a big problem with that. How can the GEQ have killed and skinned demigods with her apostles before the night of the black knives? Wich is clearly stated to be the first time demigods have ever died, this fact implies that the whole godskin movement must have happened after the night.

Oh my word you're so right! The Rune of death is an eye! That's why Enya uses the phrase "PLUCKED" in reference to it being removed from the elden ring...

Rykards involvment is also worth noteing, not only is a Godskin Noble inside the tempel of Eiglay, but also the item that Ranni gave him "on the night of the dire plot" as a reward. The Blasphemousclaw is a slap of rock imbued with the power of the rune of death meant to deflect the power of the black blade. But what did Rykard help with? What makes most sense to me would be the secret to the ritual that would help Ranni to die in body alone. Rykard was discovery ancient Hexes from Mt. Gelmir and developing them into practical use. Among them might be a "fearsome rite" that Ranni cloud use without the black knifes knowing about it.

The thing I really like about your videos is that they don't just retread stuff that's already obvious and explicitly stated in the game, or toss out cutesy "what if" ideas for the sake of novelty, but rather they manage to tie together a lot of disparate and confusing elements in the game in ways that make the whole game make more sense by drawing connections that other people haven't yet noticed. Hope you make more of them soon 👍

I want to add something that indirectly supports your theory. The concept of shinigami eyes / eyes of death / reaper eyes is quite popular in japanese culture in general in anime/manga. It had different developments in different titles, like in Death Note, Soul Eater, Shingetsutan Tsukihime, Kara no Kyoukai. It generally implied, that those related to death use eyes as a source of specific information to kill anyone. Specifically in the latter two titles the eyes of death allowed the user to see how to kill any target even using the simplest weapon like knife. So the Rune of Death is highly likely not about being the weapon or enchanting the weapon, but about enchanting the sight of the viewer on where to strike. And by the way death having blue eyes / blue eyes of death is also quite a wide cultural concept that can be found in different sources.
@TheExai
@TheExai Год назад
I would also like to add, that it's nowhere said, that black flame is or is somehow related to destined death. It's said that 1) black flame is created from the sword of the gloom-eyed queen, which in itself is not destined death and 2) after Maliketh sealed the rune of death, the source of the their (the apostles) power was sealed away, not the source of the black-flames power so the apostles used black flame and their weapons to kill gods, but that was not the property of the black flame, but the property of the apostles themselves, which might be the "eyesight", since apostles still carry the symbolic "eye" on their uniform.

You are so on target. The evil eye is definitely a thing. "The men who state at goats" are not fictional. There was (and Im sure still is) a tribe in Arabia that were capable of killing with their stare. This evil eye concept is also present woth Shabriri. Whose name reveals so much about another culture's "evil eye" rendition. And thanks to your knowledge and insight we know about the Japanese version. So I guess Melina keeps that eye closed because it would kill the Tarnished... altho we'd just respawn! As well the praying little girl in Placidusax arena has her eyes closed. And it's my belief that we get the ashes of those very wolves from Ranni along with the spirit calling bell. The way Enya says the rune of death was "plucked" from the elden ring... like "pluck" one's eyes out... If u inherit the flame of frenzy yoy have to get rid of it woth the unalloyed needle in the "eye" of the storm by stabbing your eye with it. Also runes and grace are held in one's eyes... there's so much to unpack here i dont even know how to bring it all together. Need more eyes on the inside
@dantoki6371
@dantoki6371 Год назад
Maliketh's Black Blade's description is pretty clear about that the Rune of Death was inside it, then he sealed it into his flesh and the blade's crossguard itself is missing a chunk, wich is probably an indicator for the stolen fragment of the rune. The Beast Eye is most likely Gurranq's own eye IMO, besides it's name is a fairly straight forward, the purple-ish color is also very similar to Blaidd's eyecolor who is the same kind of being as Gurranq. It resonates with deathroot wich contains the fragments of the Rune of Death, wich is as of now housed in Gurranq's body, so it would make sense for it to detect them. Also, his character model doesn't have eyes under the hood or armor. Gurranq has only two servants, as far as we know, the Tarnished and D. So for an eye for the both of us would make sense, since D is also "weeding" deathroot.
@Kosmos_er

Valid arguments actually, but the reason I prefer the eye being the fragment is that it also ties nicely with ranni and Melina's situation.

@animeproblem Niiiice! That ties in nicely witht he twin bird motif as well! In the lands between eyes are truly the windows to the soul. They become yellow islf your soul is tainted with frenzy, red if you're in to that blood stuff, and grace itself gives the eyes a golden hue (as does dragon communion but that's different). Seems to me that depending whoch outer god you're influenced by, your eyes show it. So Melina is at once influenced by the god of death and guided by grace... a union of gold and blue (Caria and Erdtree).

I think this is a better fitting explanation of what Marika's betrayal in regards to Maliketh was than Tarnished Archeologist. I think he has everything right in his recent video (which is how I found this spectacular channel! ) except what Matika's betrayal is. She led Ranni to the rune of death and then punished Maliketh for it. We know she beat him or used something on him that hurt him. When you give him enough death roota to aggro, and then you wittle his health down a bit he acts like an abused dog! Marika is a transhumanist. Like the GEQ they try to transcend their humanity and become as gods which is considered a transgression. And I mean it seems great at first and it gives you power but in the long run this transgression takes its toll. Marika should have known... you turn the cheat codes on and play on god mode you miss out on the fun... you'd think she would learn her lesson from what happened to the GEQ

@peacewalker4058 Год назад
I don't think the Godskin Noble is related to this subject at all. Before the destined death was sealed (so before Marika took full control and became a god) Godskins were the priests of death. Divine Towers were clearly made by the same culture that made Bestial Sanctum and Farum Azula in general, the texture of the stones and general architectural styles match too well. I think they are in divine towers because before Farum Azula went up into the sky and started to crumble, and even before Marika took power, Godskin as priests occupied there. Godslayers Prayerbook and Seal can be found in a remote part of Stormveil Castle, the same castle that has the most direct connection of a Legacy dungeon to Tower, I think thats enough of an evidence to say they had some level of activity there too. I think the Divine Towers of Luirnia, Caelid and Limgrave have Godskin presence not because of any plot but because its their "natural habitat", thats also why you fight Godskin Duo in Farum Azula, its their home. I also think this relates to Banished Knight's being in Farum Azula too, the road to the Divine Tower of Limgrave is "protected" by Banished Knight statues. Perhaps Farum Azula didn't rose up to the sky until Marika and Godfrey conquered everything (Banished Knight's can be found in places where Leyndell did their first conquests, Castle Sol is in Mountaintops of the Giants, in Stormveil Godfrey fought the Storm King, their crests can be found in Gelmir where they probably destroyed the first generation of Eigley Paganists (until Rykard came and then killed all the Erdtree enjoyers and reignited the serpent worship) etc. But thats just a pet theory of mine. Note:Im not against anything else you say in the video, even without the Noble and Ranni relation the idea of beast eye and Ranni's corpse turning into stone for the same reason is a genious finding. Thank you for this very well put out video essay.

Also I think Melina and Ranni are the same being or were the same being before the Night of The Black Knives. But I still dont understand why Marika wanted Ranni to kill Godwyn. First I wanna say great video, I love learning different perspectives and I think yours is very solid. I know people like the idea of the gloam eyed queen having purple eyes, but it could be more about golden eyes fading to another color. If you watch the in-game sunset, you'll see a golden sun causing a golden gloam over the ocean. But it slowly fades to a pale silver like color. I don't disagree that Melina is probably the best candidate for GED from in game, but I personally believe the purple eyes has to do with the beasts like the demi human queens. I do wonder if Marika's fading order would affect her own eyes, just like how I wonder how Gideon can tell Marika is in a state of sorrow. Does it show in the queens eyes?

Really great video, I like where this theory is going and am excited for the next one. Though I’m not sure the beast eye/gloam eye is a fragment of the rune of death; Maliketh’s main conviction after the original fragment was stolen from him is to “not have it stolen from him again” as we hear in his boss fight. Yet he just gives the player the beast eye, which seems to contradict the idea that he is very, very against losing any part of the rune of death

@@jacksonsavage6689 We don't know for sure deathroot weeders get an eye and the beast eye itself is basically completely drained of any power. I've always loved the theory that back in the old days, Marika was somehow related to the Gloam Eyed Queen as siblings or half siblings, and that after Marika became the vassal god of the Elden Beast by out competing the other empyreans of her age which included the Gloam Eyed Queen, she saved a part of the Gloam Eyed Queen and created Melina to preserve it as part of her bizarre long reaching gambit.

I still have major doubts that Marika conspired with Ranni to make the night of the black knives happen, Marika loved Godwyn and shattered the ring after the rune of death was stolen so that she could control who died after her son was taken from her.. and the way she betrayed Maliketh wasn't conspiring to steal the rune, it was the shattering of the ring after the fact. I may be wrong, but this makes way more sense than her conspiring with Ranni, a child of Radagon and Renalla, not her own...

@armandaneshjoo Год назад
I have a major recap for you: 0. Marika is basically Mercurious (Devil's master). Even the name is a giveaway. mercury is a shape-shifting metal. Mercurious and Marika are both shape-shifters. How much more shrewd could it get?? 1. Marika became a bestower at a very young age. To pick and choose was her life. So, even if he loved Godwyn, it was not a kind or motherly love. It was like how we love food. We don't take care of it because we are kind. we take care of food because we want to eat it. Godwyn was always just a pawn. 2. Marika dedicated her life to the young Erdtree, after the Great tree fell, and became its only bestower. She never liked competition. 3. Marika forced everyone to do the same, including Godfrey. Not a loving marriage. 4. Marika prevented the growth of any other erdtrees in the lands between, despite the lands' potential 5. Marika used the Elden beast to kill the Gloam-eyed queen and replaced her. 6. She associated herself with the fingers, the Erdtree, the Elden ring, and the greater will. 7. She and her kin were white-haired and long-lived. Neither the long life, nor the beauty was enough for her. When she gained power, the abundance of life she obtained turned her life eternal, and her hair golden (hence the golden order). She used that against the eternal empire 8. Even that was not enough. She removed the rune of death from the Elden ring to become invincible. 9. Shegot interested in the alchemy of eternal cities, and made radagon 10. Marika used the power she gained to kill all the giants to protect her and her Erdtree's new built monopoly on life. She also conquered all the rest of the lands between. She the first totalitarian, in the lands between. 11. Marika used Radagon to deceive Renala and take her kingdom Just like Oda Nobunaga. The lands between is Japan btw. Its history is copied in full. and the golden order is the Shinto Empire. Question is: What's next? Answer is not: She retired and lived happily ever after with her family 12. Marika discovered that the Erdtree is ill, because of the crucible roots climbing up from it. She denounced the crucible, which was sacred before, calling it an omen. pretty accurate. but she even cast her own two kids away 13. Marika casted Godfrey away, hence the name "Tarnished" 14. Marika then started studying the greater will, and order itself, to "strengthen her faith" as she claimed. 15. Marika hatched a plot for all of her soldiers, to struggle for eternity then 16. Marika casted Godfrey away, hence the name "Tarnished" 17. Marika never actually loved Godwyn for what he was. Godwyn wasn't cast away, but he used to hide the fact that Godwyn was a mermaid. Though we don't know if he was a fish from birth, or became one in an attempt to become a dragon. 18. Marika trained all her kids to become military experts. and she was very lenient on Rykard and his massacres. 19. Marika ruthlessly encouraged competition among her kids. 20. Marika didn't shatter the Elden Ring in an eruption of dispair, or else, how could she give one rune to each of her kids? 21. Marika's was not murdered by Maliketh. she was executed. crucified. there was a process. a transfer of power. 22. Before she was executed, Marika found the time to banish lower Leyndel Sorry, but to me, Marika looks %100 Mercury, 0% Mommy. And she DID pick favorites among her kids. Just not Godwyn. So I must conclude that you are leaning too heavily on the game trailers. Let me remind you! Marika's story was written by George R. R. Martin, years before. Question is: Why did Marika conspire with Ranni?
@armandaneshjoo
@armandaneshjoo Год назад
Question is: Why did Marika conspire with Ranni? Answer is: She conspired with Melina, not Ranni. In George Martin's mythos, Marika had seven children: Godwyn, Godrick, Radahn, Rykard, Malenia, Miquella, and Melina. There was no Morgot, Mohg, Ranni*, Blaid, Serosh, Malekith, shadows, two fingers, or three fingers. And there was no flame of ruin. In the original story Destined death = Red flame = Flame of ruin (see Prince of Persia Shadow and Flame) These are additions by Hidetaka Miyazaki. He is a master of world building, but not a good storybuilder. In the original story, Marika went to war against the dragons, their queen (the Gloam-eyed queen), and the flame of death, not the giants and the flame of ruin. In George Martin's story, Empyreans were Malenia, Miquella, and Melina, not Ranni. Marika conspired with Melina, not Ranni Melina was a black knife assassin, not a firekeeper, not a kindling maiden, not a finger maiden, and not a waifu. It was Melina who did not want to be beholden to the fingers. It was Melina who would walk alongside the flame, to meet the road of destined death**. It was Melina who stole the rune of death. It was Melina who broke into Leyndel with the assassins. It was Melina who killed Godwyns soul, and her own body. She was also born afflicted anyway (did not have a healthy body) It was an act of sacrifice, not a way to get rid of the "influence" of the fingers. I mean... cmon... did u ever believe that? It was Melina who set the Erdtree ablaze during the night of the black knives. It was Melina, not Ranni, who was burned and bodiless. It was Melina who ended the age of plenty, and caused the fall of Lower Leyndel, the golden order, and everything. It was Melina who's soul inhibited a four handed doll. It was Melina the doll who borrowed Torrent*** from his brother Miquella to be able to travel as a spirit doll. It was Melina the doll who sought out the tarnished, and gave them torrent's whistle, and the ashes for the three wolves of Farum Azula It was Melina the doll who would use the fingerslayer blade (Gloam-eyed queen) to kill the fingers. It was Melina's corpse that we were supposed to find, above a divine tower, or wherever. It was Melina's rune we were supposed to obtain. It was Melina's hand, we were supposed to take in marriage. It was Melina's kingdom we were supposed to rule in the end. --------------- * Ranni was Sellen. Renna, Rennala and Ranni were sisters. ** Destined death used to mean transfer of souls to the underworld. You could simply sleep (or visit catacombs) and go see dead people's souls. *** Torrent is a god of the underworld btw. The underworld is where souls go during dreams. Look for it in the upcoming DLC

Yes... so about the ritual the Rani performed. My thinking was that it is linked to the Outer God of the Death Birds. The reason is that many things indeed related are essentially interlinked with each other. On the other hand the Gloom-Eyed Queen is not linked to the Undeath. She is all about the "Destined Death" that is the final death, after which there is no rebirth. Mind you: -all Death Sorceries either relate to the Death Birds or Godwyn (and both are related to each other) and when casted they produce the centipede symbol. On the other hand the Black Flame incantations are a totally separate type of magic that doesn't produce the centipede symbol. - Ghost Flame produced by Death Sorceries causes frostbite while Black Flames produced by Black Flame incantations never cause frostbite.

We know from Milicents questline that the demigods can create offshoots of themselves. That is how Milicent and her sisters are born, when Malenia blooms in Calid. I always assumed that Merika never birthed children, with the exception of maybe Godwyn. And I only leave him out because we dont know the timeframe when he was born. However, he is not cursed or afflicted in any way. I think after she became a vessel for the Elden Ring she "grafted" children with Godfrey/Radagon just being her consort. It explains why all of her other children were cursed in some form or another. We know outer gods can "curse" Merikas children, its possible that Twin Birds outer god infected Melina. It is a possibility that some ritual was performed to contain the outer god connected with Twin Birds (and its power death). By destroying the world in the frenzied flame ending we might free her from whatever state her body/soul was locked in. The evidence to support this is her dagger is found with the Officials Attire set which reads "Surveillance, executions, gruesome rituals... The darkest duties drive the wheels of mankind."

I posted this on the Smoughtown video but it applies here too "The one question I have about Melina being the Gloam-Eyed Queen is her parentage and the timeline. The Kindling Butterfly indicates that Melina is a child of Marika AND Radagon, I say this because the Nascent Butterfly and the Nascent Butterfly represent Miquella and Malenia respectively. Ranni has no butterfly which rules out being an Empyrean as the common link, none of the other demigods are represented by a butterfly, indicating that this form of representation is for the purely godborn. However if the Godskin crisis accrued during Godfrey's reign does that mean Marika had a child with Radagon during that time? or before? There has to have been enough time for 1) Melina to come about and be made Empyrean 2) for her to grow up and rise in power 3) For her defeat to be before the end of Godfreys reign and for there to be enough time for Coliseums to, if not be built then to be modified with equipment re-smithed to bare the snake symbolism. So Melina has to be both from the union of Marika and Radagon and to predate it. I am convinced by the symbolism of the Butterflies that Melina is the offspring of two Godborn parents and convinced by the Erdtree incantation that she bares that she has to be old enough to have been alive during the era of the Crucible. Radagon was considered a champion of the Golden Order by the time of the Liurnian Wars, yet we also know that the Golden Order was founded AFTER the Godskins were defeated, on top of all that Melina describes being born at the foot of the Erdtree. This gives us a time window she had to be born after the war against the Giants and had to have been defeated before the end of Godfrey's reign, more specifically before the Ancient Dragons attacked Lyndell as the Golden Order was established by that time. Melina doesn't need to be the child of Radagon but she at least must be the offsrping of two gods, Marika and one other, the only other god that we know of is the Dragonlords missing consort. Melina coming about during Godfrey's reign explains why she's a secret, along with her betrayal. Furthermore the Serpent is called a "traitor" unlike the Fell God who is vilified but not treated as treacherous, the Serpent either tempted Melina to betray her mother or joined her rebellion after initially obeying the Erdtree."

I’m on the side of either Melina being the gloom-eyed queen or Ranni’s teacher being the gloom-eyed queen. A lot of people try to link Melina and Ranni because of the closed eyes and similar looks but forget that we never see how Ranni actually looks. Her doll body is in the image of her teacher. But Melina not remembering much and being “born” at the foot of the erdtree sets a precedent along with her purpose being “long lost.” As the gloom-eyed queen, Melina’s purpose was to bring destined death. She lost that purpose when she was defeated and was burned and left bodiless afterwards. But because destined death was sealed away she didn’t die, so Marika gave her a new purpose within the erdtree. This new purpose as Melina conflicts with her purpose as the GEQ (at least of what she remembers or feels) and so she ends up rebelling against the golden order. I don’t believe her purpose was to be kindling, but rather that was the sacrifice she was willing to make to lead the tarnished to recovering destined death and bringing it back to the world. Another interesting topic is her connection to the frenzied flame (as we see the 3 fingers mark over her eye) that allows her to becoming the kindling for the flame. Which also brings another question, the tarnished survives when they become the kindling via the frenzied flame, so is it possible that Melina is still alive as well?

Now that we know about Messmer I'm beginning to belive our Kindling maiden is actually a projection of messmer, a lord of flame and child of Marika (and probably radagon). If she is in fact a projection of messmer, most major theories remain mostly intact, the smoldering butterfly is for her/him/them/Messmer, she is still a child of Marika and perhaps a former empyryan, her connection to death and the gloam eyed queen is maintained through messmer's deadly flame, and her purpose has even more weight. Melina is certain she must burn herself and the erdtree .... again? She grants us torrent meaning she must have met miquella at some point or at the very least collected the whistle from the shadowlands.

Melina is born from the Eardtree. Reason for Eardtree existence is to regulate the flow of souls in the cycle of death and rebirth. Melina is the reincarnation of the Gloom-Eyed Queen. Melina refers to herself, being: "born at the foot of the Erdtree." This phrase also appears in the description of one of the golden runes: "Those born at the foot of the Erdtree are blessed. At least, that is the enduring belief of the people of the plateau" We also know that souls used to return to the Eardtree before Goldwyn happened, and we can see iconography of people growing on the Erdtree in the game.

Tarnished the dead who yet lived. That is a phrase we hear when we play the game. The game might gives us hints that the grace was expanded from fingers to us BUT what if WHAT IF the grace the player as Tarnished have is not from the fingers or Greater will, but from a Godess gone long time ago? There might be connections with Ranni and Melina about the stolen fragment, but we as player accomplished to have all pieces of the rune (Fias quest). My thoughts is that we the TARNISHED we harbingers of death. Think about it Gloam eyes queen fled long ago, age of Erdtree starts but I won't buy that the Gloam eyed queen is dead, what if she fled somewhere and pull the strings to one tarnished to play the role of a Godskin apostle? And her grace upon us deceive all that we can be elden lord? Also, I think if someone plans to shatter the Elden Ring that was Radagon, think about it he became Elden Lord, from that moment restricts anyone to go to the fortified manor (a.k.a first ever ROUNDTABLE HOLD) stops the colloseums fights and MAKES HIS SUBJECTS to hate the Tarnished. Heck HE ALSO SEALED THE ENTRANCE TO THE ERDTREE SO HE WILL ENSURE THAT THERE WILL BE NO OTHER ELDEN LORD AFTER HIM. So what if the plan form all accused to be Maria's plan IN FACT WAS RADAGON PLAN. Not to mention that when we enter the Erdtree we see marika Stabbed with a spear, and her hands were staved by a a spear and WHEN WE FIGHT RADAGON THE SPEAR DISAPPEARS. Think again, Radagon is not the good guy in the picture who "try to repair the elder ring but failed" HE WAS THE ONE THAT SHATTERS THE RING. Radogon and Marika might be the same person BUT THEY DIFFER in actions. Also how "conviently" the first demigod to die was Godwyn the Golden, the first born of Godfrey and Marika. Why Rinna target him specifically if not her father Radagon told her so. Radagon with Mogh and Morgot being omens has an easy time to lock them up even for a while. But with Godwyn? He knew he wants a scheme against him because who Godwyn befriend? FORTISAX that alone means that Radagon that wanted out of the picture anyone from Godfrey's age he knew that will have a BAD TIME AGAINST GODWYN.

I think Marika is gloam eyed queen. She, like Ranni, plotted against the greater will, and her shadow, like Blaid turned against her, and defeated her. She was then crucified as a punishment and used as a vessel for the ring. She was never the one who sealed the destined death away, it was something that was taken from her and sealed away.

The Empyreans were chosen by the Fingers, and we can see the mark on Ranni and Melina face somewhat resembles them. The other Empyrean we know so far is Miquella and we never had a chance to see him in game, so until the DLC comes out we will never know if Miquella has it or not. *Edit: if this is the case then I believe Melina is the Gloam-Eyed Queen. @@Kosmos_er Right, and they could have removed the version 1.00 flavor text to align with your theory, too, since so much has been changed. I was curious what you think about St Trina and the Gloam-Eyed Queen perhaps being the same, or serving the same outer god. Firstly, the Godskins are notoriously weak to Sleep, and St Trina is called the Cradlesong, which might mean a lullaby. Secondly, the GEQ swathed the godskins and "cradled" them (according to the Swaddling Cloth). Secondly, death and sleep are very similar, or at least have been in religious and literary texts for a long time ("to sleep perchance to dream"). Thirdly, St Trina's flame is purple, like the GEQ's eyes. It is crepuscular, and humans start to become sleepy at the Gloaming (though it could also be a metaphor for the end of day, and thus the end of someone's reign). Maybe St Trina is the diminished form of the GEQ, the power of Destined Death being no more than induced sleep now. It seems that all of the demigods are affected by an outer god except Miquella, and I know his ingenuity is to reject the outer gods, but what if he IS affected unconsciously by an outer god (or dead Empyrean)? What if the GEQ's phantasm is influencing him when he is unaware of that influence, maybe even to the point that she is his alternate personality independent of his conscious will. Miquella is St Trina, and St Trina is the Cradlesong, and the GEQ "cradles" Godskin Apostles, who are incredibly susceptible to the Sleep status. That is my tinfoil theory.

Firstly, this is a great video! But I disagree with some of your assumptions, and to be fair, you didn't know about Messmer. I think the burning butterflies represent Messmer, not Melina, and I think Melina is the Gloam-Eyed Queen's daughter, but she does not remember this, which explains why she's asking about Boc's behavior, she just doesn't remember. That neatly explains her eye and also the mark on it that she shares with Ranni, although they are not exactly the same. Ranni and Melina are both spirits. The only other spirits in game are called from the Bell which has the same design on the handle as the the Godslayer Greatsword. I think that GEQ's spirit survived her defeat by Maliketh and she helped Ranni obtain the rune and sever her flesh and then become a spirit as well. This was all for revenge against Marika, which Ranni also wanted because of what happened to her mother. Miquella wanted the Erd Tree gone as well and the wolves around Miquella in the statue depicted are as they were before they were spirits. They were Miquella's living wolves just as Torrent was Miquella's living steed. They are spirits now thanks to GEQ, who made sure you had all this spirit help to end Marika and the age of the Erd Tree. Just my theory.

I think in the Lands Between, during the age of prosperity and the Golden Order, people, or at least the demigods, were not born from a mother, but are grown on the Erd Tree. Its the demi-humans that give live birth, and thus Melina is curious about what it is like to be born of a mother when she sees Bok. She even said she was born at the foot of the erd tree, meaning she was not birthed but rather grown and nurtured by Merika as fruit of the tree of life.
@grimmtheschoolaroffools2068
Honestly the idea that the eye is the Shard is an interesting one and that finds an answer to Melina's eye without saying the nonsense that she is the Gloam Eyes Queen. Following that base, what I think happened is that Ranni effectively took the role of grafting the eye of destined death and just like Godrick, who gains the powers of what is grafted, Ranni won the destined death and enchanted the weapons of the black knives; but during the ritual where the mark of death was sewn on Godwyn she still with the power of death performed the same ritual at the same time and gave a half death for both of them, with Godwyn dying in soul and Ranni in body; eventually Melina was sent to rescue the power of death from Ranni's body. Perhaps if we take a closer look at the face of her corpse we can see a trace of a graft, I don't know, but if there was such visual evidence, I would have no doubts. What do you think aboit it? Although yes, Gurank really gives us an eye of the Queen and this is indeed something for which in the past he worried and because of having lost it he ended up like this, or the theory falls apart or each eye had a different power and the only "important one" was the one that Marika stole.

The connections are undeniable, but it's all so murky beyond the known facts. This is the one area where I feel that if the DLC does not give us more info, we'll be left with a glaring hole in the lore where it won't even be that interesting to speculate imo given how little we currently have. The hints that Melina is a daughter of Marika are convincing, but I find that it raises a lot more questions than it answers. Why would she have been treated differently than the other non-omen demigods ? Why is there no record of her ? Why does it seem like she was in a cell ? Most importantly, why does she have a gloam eye that's completely unique to her ? There's really no reason why there would be a "hidden daughter" in my opinion. I'm not saying it's not possible, but what even is the point ? Melina is connected to Destined Death, which I understand could be the reason she was hidden away, but then why would that specific daughter just have that kind of connection where there's no trace of it in any other demigod ? It also makes some of her dialogue pretty awkward. She evidently knows who Marika is, and seems to know who her mother is. Apparently she even meets her while in Leyndell. Why then speak of Marika and her mother as distinct ? Beyond that, could she even commune with Marika in her current state ? Can she just enter the Erdtree and have a chat ? This answer is very unsatisfying to me. Until we get more from the DLC, I stand by the theory that she's related to the GEQ, but not Marika. I just think it's far too easy to poke at this theory and find things that don't really add up. I feel that the spirit world idea has not been explored enough (Understandably, since we know so little about it). But as things stand, I find the idea that Melina goes to the spirit world while in Leyndell to commune with her actual mother far more appealing and interesting than any theory that links Melina to Marika/Radagon.

That would explain why we find Alecto imprisoned where she is, and why Iji and Blaidd are attacked by Black Knives.

What if the Melina closed eye is because she was another demigod killed on the night of the black knives like Ranni? Also, for the identity of the gloam eyed queen: there’s only three queens in the game: Marika, Renalla, or the queen depicted only in statues at Faram Azula. Also if destined death was originally part of the Elden Ring then there’s only one person who could wield it. We know Marika is clearly unhappy about being a vessel for the greater will, we know shadows main purpose is to turn on their empyrean if they go against the greater will, and we know Maliketh feels betrayed by Marika. Also Marika’s statue body is missing its left eye. I can’t see how it could be anyone but Marika. She’s the one Maliketh defeated. She’s said to have a connection to the spirit world, she is literally “The Logos (Elden Ring) Made Flesh”. After her defeat the Greater Will used a silver tear named Radagon to become her and to be a vessel for the Elden ring. But I think her personality/will still persisted within Radagon which is why you get this divided being. Marika is a Christlike figure, Christ was executed for a mix heresy/blasphemy/leading a rebellion. Then the ones who executed him wound up co-opting his movement. Attributing to Christ things he did not say or do and using him as justification for horrible acts. She’s even fucking crucified.

Marika could have lied to malina about being her mother...

I adore this theory that the eyes of the gloam eyed queen housed destined death itself and are what maliketh held sealed. I don't necessarily like attributing everything back to Marika as a super duper grandmaster plan though. I think it's a bit much to think she even had her own son killed despite the age of plenty likely still going on. I think Marika IS very conniving and ambitious though and did have a crap ton of master plans. She was even willing to yeet Godfrey and his people as a contingency plan it seems based on her divesting grace speech. But still. This idea that she had a hand in Godwyn's death seems to require her to want to shatter the order she worked immensely hard to build from day one. Which doesn't ring true to me, especially not for such an ambitious character. This doesn't damper your video or your theories to me though. Not at all. The point of watching elden ring videos is to see everyone's own unique and awesome thoughts, at least for me. I'm totally adopting the idea that the gloam eye queens eyes were where destined death was or where it was bound as further insult to her.

I've never understood her claim that she's bodiless. She has scars. She rides Torrent. We can touch her. She doesn't have the appearance of a ghost or spirit. So why does she claim to be bodiless? What does she mean?
@Karak-_-
@Karak-_- Год назад
Maybe she appears in simmilar way how Renna appears in the churh, as a sort of projection.
@jonathancapps1103
@jonathancapps1103 Год назад
@@Karak-_- But she needs the player to taker her to the Tree. It's gotta be more than that, although I agree that the visual affect of them leaving suggests similarity. Although if Ranni were just projecting an image of herself, I would expect it to look like her before she died. Why project the foll and spirit shimmer? No that I think about it, that seems odd, too. She doesn't ask you to clear a path to the Erd Tree. She asks to be taken there. She's a long for the ride, somehow present even when not showing herself. The only thing she gives you is the ring, and I don't see her being bound to that.

In George R R Martin's original story, there was no Ranni. Melina was Marika and Radagon's last child. she was an empyrean, and a black knife assassin, who was tasked by his mother to steal the rune of death, and sacrifice her body and her brother's soul (Miquella?), to burn the erdtree, shatter the Elden ring, cause chaos, and use it to rise to power, unshackled by the greater will.

I now believe that Ranni split herself in three: body, spirit and soul: 1. Imperial body is burned 2. Spirit is Melina 3. Soul is in the doll Marika can split herself into Marika and Radagon. Twins Malenia and Miquella born 'aflicted' because they were ment to be a single creature with balanced life/death circle. (Margit and Morgott also fit here nicely) As a daughter of Radagon, Ranni can inherit the same double nature. Thus Melina is a daughter of Marika born by Renala. The eye is not given to her by Ranni, it is in her, because they are the one. And they follow a single purpose of burning the Erdtree and establishing a new age with life and death both present in a circle. Thanks for the video, it put a lot of things on their places in my mind!

Melina is Marika. Fight me!!! Or should I say, she is Marika in a way Radagon is Marika. She is part of Trinity. Marika, Radagon and Melina. Or Im just tripping.
