My mind has been blown by the arrogance of Pres Nelson building unwanted and unnecessary temples. It's hurting the people who are living in the neighborhoods they are being built.
@randyjordan5521
@randyjordan5521 Месяц назад
From what I understand, the church has to spend a certain percentage of its billions on religious items, rather than unrelated financial investments. We know that the church doesn't need all of those temples. The church is just building them because they have to spend that money. But the church gets a lot of the money back, because in areas where they build more temples, the percentage of tithe payers increases. The same thing is happening with the Church of Scientology. They are losing members, but they are flush with money donated by wealthy members. So they are buying up buildings in downtown Clearwater, Florida, and remodeling them and calling them religious-based facilities. Some of the buildings are little-used, but the church built them because they had to spend their money.
@TriciaEllinger
@TriciaEllinger Месяц назад
@randy Yes, put that money in hospital care for the poor, homeless, and HIRE flipping janitor for the church buildings and temples. Build sustainable housing for the homeless that want to be housed. Jesus abhorred wealth!

Even worse than that, how about taking the money and building nice homes for people in need. I was a single mom, ex sleeping with elders quorum president while he was on the high counsel and temple worker. Everything was taken from me. Church could've helped and did nothing but continue to take my free service and some rice, oranges, and beans. I

@@randyjordan5521 I think you're mostly correct, but I'd take it a step further. When you spend money to improve a piece of property, it looks like an expenditure, but the property appreciates in value and still stays an asset on your balance sheet. Yes, there will be some operating costs, but I think what the church is really trying to do is launder their tithing donations. Rather than spend it on charitable causes, they simply convert cash to real estate, and they do it in so many different jurisdictions. I wouldn't be surprised if each temple were owned by its own LLC, and if you ever wanted to sue the church the way the Catholic church was sued for abuse, you'd need take each temple to court to seize those assets. I bet the church proper owns relatively little, but has farmed it out to independent LLCs. And that to be successful in suing the church, you'd need prove a 90 year old man was responsible, and hope he doesn't die before discovery a la MR Ballard.

When the cult serves the leviathan spirit through the type of hypnotic speak: members are lulled into a stupor to robotically nod in agreement move forward in a chant. This year’s chant is the “follow follow follow the covenant path “ ( sung to the tune of the yellow brick road) There has been “ choose the right”. “Follow the prophet” “Do your best & Christ will make up the rest” I’m sure there are more… But the KEEP THE COVENANT PATH and THINK CELESTIAL” are the current mantra’s that keep them from critical thinking…

Marti’s inability to articulate her questions clearly gives off Jen Kamp vibes. Marti needs to enroll in “podcast hosting 101” to hone her verbal skills, otherwise she comes off sloppy.

Turn the Sunday School into a monthly testimonial meeting, where you have multiple guests bear a brief testimony of why they now know that the Church isn't true. Combine 2 of the others into a common topic.

I appreciate that you both are trying to be generous and assume the best, but, as you correctly pointed out, they are willing to lie to protect the church AND it's hold on the mindsets of the members. So, they are willing to break the laws of Christ in order to strengthen Christ's position amongst the people on the earth - sounds noble. However, the leaders constantly emphasize personal integrity and teach that one should never offend god's laws, no matter what! (This is mostly to create an urgency to follow the leaders.) But, they clearly do not exemplify the priority of personal integrity in their own behavior. And, the church as an institution also does not demonstrate this priority. It's easy to show that the leaders have lied on many points. That is, they did not misspeak, they deliberately misrepresented what they knew as truth. At that point they are done. They are not representing God.

If you say you’re changing the doctrine then it isn’t gaslighting. If they pretend they never said it or the new doctrine doesn’t contradict old doctrine, that is gaslighting.

In ter es ting. Bit off more than you could chew no? Keep Sh kes pe a re a weekly. Make Sunday School once a month, Mormonism news, twice a month, Mormonism live and RFM keep them weekly. My advice. I find it interesting the role that Rebecca B. Is taking in the Mormon skeptic blogosphere. She is a unique person, both beautiful and smart. The crime stuff is interesting too because it’s the only window I have on those Utah-centric scandals. So keep doing those as those situations evolve. I think it would also be very enlightening if you were to do a series on matters related to the homelessness/drug addict problems in the greater Mormon centric geography of the western US, starting with Seattle, on thru Portland, Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Denver, Salt Lake City and so on. I think your perspective on these critical issues in our part of the country. Your program with Carah was really good. You and she are great together. In particular, she has an important and unique base of subscribers and your intellectualism and precision in use of the English language with her are as unique and important influence on her. It’s a shame that she did not get more higher education, but she is young enough that that could yet happen. She is obviously highly intelligent and has high ethical standards, so your role with her on that particular joint program was truly positive and fun to watch. Also, I think it would be highly interesting for you to have joint appearances with though leaders such as Lex Fridman, Jordan Peterson, and Aaron Smith - Levin. Perhaps with you more in the role of interviewee instead of being the interviewer. Finally, I hope that in some way, you can maintain a strong working relationship with Kerry Shirts. I am constantly blown away by the breadth and depth of that man’s interests, knowledge and abilities. For you to engage with him on the various topics he covers could be particularly enlightening for fans of you both. I am particularly struck by his most recent “Documentary” on Cosmic Buddhism. Not only is his narrative superb, erudite, and displaying knowledge of fields I did not know he had any interest in or particular knowledge about. The artwork and photography are quite strikingly beautiful and relevant to his subject matter. It would not be that much of a stretch for this and perhaps other such program he may be developing to become even more polished and cinematic to the point thats his work could perhaps transition into Hollywood-style projects worthy of inclusion in major film festivals and up for consideration as candidates for major movie industry awards.

30:00 It’s why I switched from LDS to Evangelical Christian. The LDS Church used to do a good job in teaching its principles to its members. As a believer, however, I could no longer believe that Mormonism was the correct way to live according to principles Jesus taught through those people who wrote down what he said when he was alive and shortly thereafter. Also: be careful of believing in Science as the antithesis of religion. Long ago, people used mythology to explain God’s creation. Now, we have science to correctly take what God has created and quantify it in terms of scientific principles. All religion is simply the organized worship of our Creator. Some religion is better than others. The man-made rules and rituals, such as the LDS temple, are largely unnecessary much past having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
