RAINWATER TANK BURIED! - Installing Catchment Pipes & Plumbing at the Airstream Carport (Step 9)

After filling in our septic hole, there was one last big hole to fill. The rainwater catchment tank. We'll be burying it 3' below ground, plumbing it, and running the gutter downspouts into the top to catch water.

Wow, putting the tank in the hole looked hard to do! Great that you got it in there! I really like your access that you built with 3 access ports stacked up. So good you had clearance to open the ball valve! Yay, you got the pipe to the top of the water tank done too. Ashley is already painting it! There goes the original clothesline! I feel like the access thing you built should be above grade at the top so water won't puddle around it and fill it in. Maybe it is and I just couldn't see it on my tablet.

Put a vertial handle extension on the ball valve handle or make an extension that can be removed, to make turning tap on/off a bit easier. Also ground water will seep in from the bottom so sealing is of little value except to stop dirt/snd coming in.

Put a large hook bolt in your cordless drill, hook eyelet of eyebolt and run drill. Bolts go in and out quickly.

Ochoa is so so adorable and cute!!! So, Fun Fact peeps: Do you know why the PVC glue is colored purple? For instances exactly like what TSH are taking advantage of.... that is, being able to do the job yourself and have an inspector approve without homeowners having to pay the expensive plumber’s bill.... and thus the purple color allows the inspector to see easily and quickly that you really did use PVC glue and aren’t using something you shouldn’t or nothing at all when he/she comes to inspect, thus allowing for a quicker and thorough inspection with ease and signing off on the job quickly without doubt that the joints are sealed properly!!!😊😊😊

A couple cinder blocks on that lid will keep most the dirt off it. And easy to move. Or even just a little handmade box. You can even leave a 1x4 with a notch to turn on and off in it so you don't ever have to reach in. Looks great guys love it.

It is going to be amazing to have all that water at home so you can stop hauling. 55 gallon drums can be drilled out to make access to the ball valve if you have them available.

for future tank placement you may want to sandbag it like you did in the spare bedroom. Also if you roll the tank on a ladder you have much more control and a longer lever arm. You guys are an inspirition, doing somthing I wanteded to do 40 years ago. Now there is much more information however time is not on my side. I will watch from the side lines and feel joy for you.

Came across a similar situation when I put in my underground sprinkler system. I used a piece of 8 inch PVC pipe and notched over the inline valve. Worked great and way cheaper than 3 of those boxes!

@@TinyShinyHome a friend of mine does plumbing on the side. He had a scrap laying around. But anyone who does farming probably has some. Just keep your eyes open. Check where you can buy it. They may have a scrap or a damaged piece for cheap.
