Captain Disillusion... makes contact. A very special thanks to: James Randi Sean McCabe and the rest of JREF staff. Also, a big thanks to Enrique Huertas, Stephen Shupe and Vilen Melikdjanian for invaluable assistance.
Seriously. I'm so sad it all devolved into right wing conspiracy theories. Although there are still people like Genetically Modified Sceptic and Rebecca Watson fighting the good fight
After seeing the behind the scenes, came here to see the original, it feels like this video is too consistent with the current content so doesnt feel like it was uploaded 11 years ago :o
This channel is like a Boltzmann brain, it popped into existence a few years ago, equipped with a decade of content and comments. There's no other explanation for how I could have missed it for so many years.
RIP, James Randi. You were a hero to me. I got really scared when, as an early teen, after seeing Uri Geller on TV, I decided to play a trick on my parents, and they believed it was a paranormal power. I bent cutlery the way I'm pretty sure Geller did when he didn't have access to a Muntz-metal replica: brute force when nobody was looking, but only a tiny bit at a time. My mother swore she saw the fork bend on the table until it was at such an extreme angle that it fell over. That was just sheer luck, that I'd bent it a little bit more and managed to replace it on the table and get back in my seat when my mother got back in the room... and then it fell over. But I didn't feel proud at all to have got one over on my parents: I felt ashamed. But they believed so fervently that for me to have owned up to simple trickery (and the fact that my skinny wrists have always had surprising strength) would surely have made them feel stupid and gullible, not something I wanted to happen. So I never owned up, and my mother believed until the day she died, about a year ago. Tears are in my eyes as I type this. Yes, owning up might have made _me_ feel better, but would it have made _her_ feel better? Almost certainly not: my loving mother would have known her only son was a liar, when all I had done was a silly trick that I was sure my parents would see through with a little thought. Trickery masquerading as mystery is pernicious, such as Sylvia Brown coining in the money and laughing behind her handkerchief as she peddles false hope to desperate people in return for cash. Exposing people like that is an honourable mission, James, and you were one of its shining lights. RIP, James Randi, but long live JREF!
The first time I saw the Pantry Ghost I was obviously emotionally affected...that is until I saw the ‘locked door’ scene. In nearly all of the shots of the ‘manifestations’ the supposed ghost appears at around eye level for a 10-12 year old child, even when the supposed ‘skeptic’ ‘John’ is kneeling the illusion takes place at around child’s eye level slightly above the halfway mark or the knob of the door, in the locked door shot the camera is focused much lower and then captures the ‘apparition’ perfectly in frame, why? Why did he know to zoom in lower if all the other ‘manifestations’ occurred higher up? That was all I needed, I don’t know or care how it was done, I am absolutely convinced now beyond a shadow of a doubt that the whole thing was faked. That’s before the scenes involving his daughter which by the incredibly poor attempt at acting by his obviously amateur daughter gave it away as rehearsed - it saddens me deeply when people unscrupulously involve innocent children in their attempts at deceiving people for gain. People want so badly to believe something that they will believe anything, the Pantry Ghost was at least a goodish effort. Debunked
@@fyourhandlegoogle having emotions is infantile? Not having emotional reactions is a disorder, commonly a subset of autism. You might want to seek out a specialist my friend.
@@fyourhandlegoogle tf? You stopped becoming emotionally affected by things once you were no longer an infant?! That's basically what you're implying. You have crazy emotions as a teenager then for the rest of your life. He wasn't saying emotionally affected as in forever, like childhood trauma. You can be emotionally affected temporarily by a video or a song. I doubt he'd still be thinking about it even if he'd not already decided he didn't believe it
Came here after you posted the behind the scenes video. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, James Randi was always brilliant and dedicated to his mission of explaining the simplicity in reality. RIP.
My mom eats this shit up. She literally believes any ghost thing she sees on youtube. It's come to a point where I can no longer talk sense into her about any of it.
I just happened on the Pantry Ghost documentary yesterday. Although initially compelling, it struck me how the ghost was the same size as, AND looked exactly like, his daughter. Unlike you, I had the benefit of having lived in an older home that had a false fronted pantry so I also noticed that the shallowness of the pantry shelves did not seem to meet the depth and dimension of the closet space. I've seen things I can't explain but this was not one of them. People will believe what they want to believe but sorting out the false is a necessary first step to finding out the truth. Regards!
@@TheBluePhoenix008 "who else is here because of the video honoring this mans death" "Are you seriously gonna milk a dude's death for clout?" Idk how you got that from what I said but you got it wrong
It's not only at the end. They reference the scene where she meets the engineer on his airplane, too. In the exchange that ends with James Randi saying "Clever boy". That's the scene where the billionaire engineer is showing the schematic is 3d modeled.
This is really interesting - I just found out about these videos now and I'm hooked. Funny thing is that although the videos were posted years ago, many of the comments here are fresh (within last few months or days) - everyone is asking the same thing: Why didn't I see these videos earlier?! Especially ones with James Randi live in the flesh?!
umbrella group that has a English football league one side of the road to a firm with stock options big enough to see you in the new series of the road to a firm favourite in my country because local hospital killed my grandmother and are trying to get away with it
Oh my gosh, this is my favorite "real ghost caught on tape" video. I can't wait for you to explain it! I just found this channel and the more videos I watch, the more I grow to love it :D
Honestly this whole channel feels like I'm watching a very well made 90s Show! So keep up the work man! I see why people support you on patreon. Great content.
Just as superheroes wear masks over the top half of their faces, so does CD, a silver alien superhero, who wears a human-like mask over the top half of his face.
I absolutely LOVE how CD makes interesting stuff even MORE interesting by adding humour and even a bit of STORYTELLING! He (and his writer[s], obviously) = a great future ahead of him[them].
If I had the chance to meet you I would hug you and shake your hand and thank you for explaining stuff I really wanted and needed to know! You are my hero
I can't believe a video back in 2009 can be seamlessly disguised as a recently uploaded video!! I didn't even realize this video is almost a decade old until I checked the upload date. This really shows that captain d's content hasn't changed at all O.O
I remember being afraid of this video. Edit: 5:12 Whoaa. Dude how does this channel not have millions of subs? It’s so awesome how it all ties together. I didn’t know that’s how he got that.
This was the first video of yours that I saw back in the day. I was 12 when I first saw this, but I swear this video came out a little further back than 2009.
This video only having 270K views is the true crime. The CD content has been so amazing over the past decade - I'm looking forward to the next 10 years!
You didn't have to make amazing entertaining storylines. You didn't have to put the elaborate complicated chrome makeup. You didn't have to develop such characters. You didn't have to use amazing visual effects that far overshadow all videos you showcase. You didn't have to put on so much effort into any of this. You didn't have to do any of this to be famous on RU-vid. You didn't have to actually teach us much more than visual trickery. You didn't have to care about us being smarter. But the fact that you do makes it so much more special. You are, in my humble honest opinion, the best guy on the internet.
