From what he says in interviews, the early albums will be at the bottom of his list. He hated the band mates and label more than Jesus during the recording of the 1st 2.
10) Shadows in the light 09) Kingdom of conspiracy 08) Harnessing ruin 07) Dawn of possession 06) Failures for gods 05) Here in after 04) Atonement 03) Majesty and decay 02) Unholy cult 01) Close to a world below My favorite death metal band. All their albums are great. The Providence ep is also amazing and somewhere in the middle of my list.
holy shit dude, that's almost identical to mine (and yeah, I'm the same, Immo is my fave DM band). Basically, just do a few switcherooskis (10/9, 8/7, 6/5) 10. Kingdom of Conspiracy 9. Shadows in the Light 8. Dawn of Possession 7. Harnessing Ruin 6. Here In After 5. Failures for Gods 4. Atonement 3. Majesty and Decay 2. Unholy Cult 1. Close to a World Below
Glad someone else digs the monster that is Atonement is, besides me......👍 It ranges 4-5 for me. 1) Dawn 2)Close 3) Here 4)Failure 5) Atonement 3,4 and 5 are interchangeable. 6)Unholy The only other one I'm sure on is 10) Kingdom.....it's boring as hell
10) Unholy cult 09) Unholy cult 08) Unholy cult 07) Unholy cult 06) Here in after 05) Here in after 04) Here in after 03) Majesty and decay 02) Unholy cult 01) Here in after
Great video fellas and such a hard ranking to do. 10. Kingdom of Conspiracy 9. Harnessing Ruin 8. Shadows in the Light 7. Atonement 6. Majesty and Decay 5. Dawn of Possession 4. Close to a World Below 3. Unholy Cult 2. Failures for Gods 1. Here in After
I once read a description of Rob’s guitar riffs as “stabbing angels...”, I couldn’t agree more. No one riffs like Immolation...nothing can touch Dawn of Possession. Unholy Cult is another hands down classic.
To me Bob's playing and Immolation's music in general is far more progressive than technical. It's strengths are in creativity, dynamics, and most importantly incredible composition.
I saw Incantation earlier this year in Birmingham, England. They were fantastic! I’m seeing Immolation in next month in Birmingham supporting Cannibal Corpse, can’t wait🔥
Real tough to rank, love them all; 1. Close to a World Below 2. Failures For God 3. Dawn of Possession 4. Unholy Cult 5. Here in After 6. Shadows in the Light 7. Acts of God 8. Atonement 9. Majesty and Decay 10. Harnessing Ruin 11. Kingdom of Conspiracy
A couple of years ago I found one of their album at the Salvation Army and picked it up. Still haven't listened to it...will definitely have to now! Great show!
1) Dawn of Possession 2) Here in After 3) Close to a World Below 4) Unholy Cult 5) Failures for Gods 6) Harnessing Ruin 7) Atonement 8) Majesty and Decay 9) Shadows in the Light 10) Kingdom of Conspiracy
This was so Pete and John, definitely one of my fav bands of all time, they make perfection their average. John, my good friend Dan Grainger played live in your band for a leg of your tour, (I’m also in Perth) and you guys were so good when I saw you in Perth on that last your with Krisiun. What a great video this was
1. Here in After 2. Failure of the Gods 3. Dawn of Possession 4. Unholy Cult 5. Close to a World Below 6. Harnessing Ruin 7. Majesty and Decay 8. Atonement 9. Kingdom of Conspiracy 10. Shadows of the Light
Can't believe I missed this vid... I absolutely adore both Immolation AND Incantation (Incantation was actually the first death metal band I saw live). It's funny because even the "worst" Immolation album is still better than about 95% of stuff out there LOL But here's my personal ranking: 10 - Kingdom of Conspiracy 9 - Dawn of Possession 8 - Harnessing Ruin 7 - Majesty and Decay 6 - Shadows In The Light 5 - Unholy Cult 4 - Failures for Gods 3 - Atonement 2 - Closer To A World Below 1 - Here In After And I know Acts of God has been released since this vid, and it's phenomenal, as expected. However, I figured I'd rank the same albums. \m/
Love this!!! Immolation are such a great band! Pete John and Steve all seem to be great dudes! I would love to have a brew with you guys and listen to some really heavy music!
Indeed among the most impeccable & consistently exceptional metal bands of all time, along with being some of the most level-headed & kind-hearted folk in the game. No such thing as a bad Immolation record, hence why it's quite the task to rank records. My attempt would look like (including their fantastic EPs): 12. Kingdom of Conspiracy (2013) 11. Harnessing Ruin (2005) 10. Shadows in the Light (2007) 9. Atonement (2017) 8. Majesty and Decay (2010) 7. Providence [EP] (2011) 6. Dawn of Possession (1991) 5. Unholy Cult (2002) 4. Hope and Horror [EP] (2007) ('The Struggle of Hope and Horror' is among the best tracks the madman Vigna has ever written) 3. Failures for Gods (1999) 2. Close to a World Below (2000) 1. Here in After (1996) On a side note, very interesting to hear a veteran in the death metal game not being too fond of Alex Hernandez' drumming. His borderline inhuman performance on Failures for Gods, Close to a World Below & Unholy Cult is among the most devastating & easily among my favorite drum performances by any metal drummer. Admittedly, to each their own, seeing that I personally wasn't that fond of Shalatay's early work in the mid-late 2000's (tho I admit he has grown tremendously as a drummer, especially in the more recent full-lengths & EPs). Mad respect to John McEntee! It was an absolute pleasure to see you both during the Netherlands Deathfest 19 & Musicon Den Haag, which already feels like an eternity! Greetings from the Netherlands!
10. Harnessing Ruin 09. Shadows in the Light 08. Dawn of Possession 07. Kingdom of Conspiracy 06. Unholy Cult 05. Failures for Gods 04. Here in After 03. Close to a World Below 02. Majesty and Decay 01. Atonement
Great video guys - never thought I'd see Immolation on this channel! Only familiar with their first five albums but sounds like I should I try some of their newer stuff given how highly you both rate them. Of the five I know I'd go: 1. Here in After 2. Close to a world below 3. Unholy Cult 4. Dawn of Possession 5. Failures for Gods
this was an impossible task - kudos to you both for attempting this heavy metal lift. it's akin to ranking your children when all are mensa members and at the top o' their relative professions...... John's personal connection and stories are a delight......without doubt the running theme o' 'criticism' lay mostly with production as opposed to song craft. point : Immolation...
Amazing show !! Immolation is so monstrously sick!! I'm def on a Immo kick now. That Atonement album is amazing!! As is the the whole discography. Unholy Cult up there for me as well!!
Acts of God is my first album I listened to it and I am currently backtracking in their cataloge. And what an enjoyable journey it is! And why didn't I listen to these guys before. I love tech death, that is not too tech, I love heavy groovy dissonant riffs, good drums and deep guttural growls. It's all here! Awesome!
Same here. Acts of God is absolute killer. I'm not much into death metal, because it is usually pretty boring and generic, but this album just does something to me. Now checking rest of disco.
Thanks so much guys! Immolation and Incantation are my two favorite extreme metal bands. I don't care for labels too much as for me both bands just make great music regardless of genre. Loved hearing John's insight; such a valuable contribution to this video as was Pete's familiarity with the catalogue. My ranking is perhaps closer to Pete's as I like the later material a lot particularly post 2010. However, as has been said, the quality of the entire catalogue is so high it's very difficult to rank. When I first heard Kingdom of Conspiracy I was expecting to be disappointed as it does rank low on sites like RYM. However, it's definitely in my top 3.
Wow. When you do an immolation ranking video and you just decide to have Incantation legend John Mcentee on to rank them.. all I can say is wow! You definitely get a sub from me sir. Thank you for this video.
I have been a bit late to Incantation and Immolation(late to death and black metal in general, but now fiendishly love it), but I've grown to love their catalogues. I've got nearly all the Incantation vinyl and like 6 of the Immolation(waiting on the new one, but i've got the cassette for now). Both bands are just so consistently badass.
This has been on my "to listen" list for a while, I was only familiar with a few tracks. I just played Higher Coward and HOLY SHIT am I in for a ride. Thanks Pete, your shows are awesome.
Immolation’s my favorite death metal band, and Onward to Golgotha is my favorite death metal album. So cool to see John talk about Immolation. My ranking: 1. Here in After 2. Close to a World Below 3. Harnessing Ruin 4. Majesty and Decay 5. Failures for Gods 6. Atonement 7. Dawn of Possession 8. Shadows in the Light 9. Unholy Cult 10. Acts of God 11. Kingdom of Conspiracy
Immolation and Incantation. Neither band has ever made a weak album. Hell, they've never made a decent album either, every single album by both bands are absolute fucking killer. Shadows in the Light is maybe my least favorite by Immo, but it's still a hell of a lot better than best albums by some other bands.
Easily in my Top 3 Death Metal bands ever (Vader and Bolt Thrower being the others) and quite possibly one of the hardest discographies to rank, but I'll give it a shot: 1. Close To A World Below 2. Here In After 3. Unholy Cult 4. Majesty & Decay 5. Dawn Of Possession 6. Kingdom Of Conspiracy 7. Shadows In The Light 8. Harnessing Ruin 9. Atonement 10. Failures For Gods (love it, but something has to be at the bottom) Great video Pete, Cheers!!!
I was just waiting for him to drop "Kingdom of Conspiracy" at #10.........🤣 Don't worry John, It's most people's #10.....🤘🤘 Pete was in drugs when he was making his list, Dawn of Possession at #9......😳
1. Majesty and decay 10/10 2. Close to a world below 10/10 3. Unholy cult 9/10 4. Dawn of possession 9/10 5. Here in after 8/10 6. Failures for gods 8/10 7. Harnessing ruin 8/10 8. Atonement 8/10 9. Shadows in the light 7/10 10. Kingdom of conspiracy 7/10 A Glorious Epoch is their best song.
Pete, could you make a video where you explain to so-called music lovers why extreme metal is a perfectly viable music genre? Sometimes I get tired of getting *the stare of disbelief* when I mention to people my appreciation of that kind of music.
You cannot go wrong with any of their album, BUT few have a crappy production ! I wish they would re-record them and add them as a bonus or something? The debut is still my fav. Also, the Providence EP would rank probably in the top5 for me.
Awesome stuff. Maybe I need to revisit their catalogue too though I have heard quite a lot of their albums. A band I always respected for their contribution to extreme music since I am not sure if we would have bands like gorguts (who I fucking love one of my favorite extreme metal bands) but I don't really love them. I even saw them live and didn't like them at all but that's mostly due to the sound they had live with the drums being almost trash can like on thag show and extremely loud. However I think Ross Dolan is one of the best death metal vocalists and they have some brilliant songs just not a huge fan of any of their albums from start to finish though I respect them highly. if I would have to say my favourite album/ep then it would mostly be the Providence ep. I absolutely love that ep.
10) Unholy cult 09) Unholy cult 08) Unholy cult 07) Unholy cult 06) Here in after 05) Here in after 04) Here in after 03) Unholy cult 02) Unholy cult 01) Here in after
I guess i'm in the minority, but i genuinely think that Shadows in the Light is a semi classic, and i rate it higher than everything Immolation did afterwards. Even including Atonement.
Agree with another comment that I would love to see a rating of the Incantation catalog, although John Mcintee rules love his band but I think it wouldn’t be fair to him to rank his own band
Close To A World Below Dawn of Possession Here in After Failures For Gods Unholy Cult Harnessing Ruin Shadows in the Light Hope and Horror Everything after Shadows isnt for me.
