Wait till you’re 76. You reflect on even people not things. Music pulls me back to the era it was made. The fifties and early 60s family, Vietnam my Marine buddies, 70s the start of my marriage, 80/90s my kids music, and now after 50 years of marriage I can relive the people I love in each time period. Thank you for taking me back with your reflections.
Seger was equally perfect in concert--sounded every bit as great as his recordings, all without autotune and no lip synching. At 61 he was still running up and down the stage during his performances....absolutely two of the best concerts I ever got to see.
I was able to see 5 concerts. My Sister and Father saw 6 concerts. All over a 30 year span. Bob Seger is part of my life. Always has been and always will be. It is a family affair with me. I am blessed.
100, Having an eidetic memory; I hate covers and live performances because it doesn't match the time signature, Bob Seager almost never had that problem, very few artists can keep Rythm with No metronome. lol
I was fortunate enough to have seen him live twice, the first time was front row tickets I won on a radio contest. It was amazing! I was so close I could see the red Levi’s tag on his jeans! 😂
It's funny you say how you're beginning to notice music everywhere. I honestly, in my heart believe that music can unite people. We can all find common ground and a shared history.
My favorite Bob Seger song is Against the Wind. Beautiful song with the best line ever "wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then." How true in life. 😢
Im 56. I grew up in MI. I still have a cabin in Northern MI. When Uncle Bob comes on, you turn it up, and recall. Go to the woods, the lake, the river, the fishin hole, the cornfield, the bondfire, and chill with Bob.
I only heard both of those about a million times 'cause in the mid '80s they were played over and over every night in every topless bar from coast to coast!💯🤣❤️✌️
Not Bob Seger, but I gotta add one more song to the nostalgia list. Don Henley - The Boys of Summer. As a kid, it wasn't bad. As an adult, it grabs me, every time.
Bob's voice and lyrics can paint a picture in your mind like no other. Put all of his songs on little pieces of paper, put them in a hat, pull one out, it's a hit. "Where did the time go?" Brother, with your b-day coming up, you are a week younger than my youngest. I can't tell you where the time went.
You are correct Chevy trucks used the Like a Rock in their commericals for many years. When Chevy first approached Bob about using his song in their ads he said no. However After speaking to a plant worker for GM, Seger had a change of heart as he was reminded of his own time working for the car company. He relented and "Like a Rock" became the official anthem of Chevy trucks from 1991 to 2014. Bob was from the Detroit area, and always wanted to do what he could to suport the local workers. Bob has a very deep and full catalouge of songs to explore. One of the best singer songwriters of his or any other generation. THe best thing you can say about any singer/songwriter. There is not such thing as a bad Bob Seger Song. Hollywood Nights, Her Strut, The Famous Final Scene, Feel like a Number, and Beautiful Loser are some that I think you might connect with.
I just turned 75 a couple of days ago. I, a US Army Paratrooper and wore the coveted Green Beret. Now, I have problems getting into my truck... where has time gone? That is why this song is so loved by me and I play it a lot... to remember...
Bob Seger. My all time favorite performer. Times of reflection, times of romance, times of road trips... all accompanied by Bob Seger and his Silver Bullet Band.
When I heard the truck commercial I thought "Oh my God! No No! Do not cheapen and abuse this amazing song!!!" as I get older I change the words " 20 years, where;d they go? " to 30 years now 40 years
A few of my favoirte Bob Seger songs: Against the Wind Her Sturt Old Time Rocking Roll If you get a chance check out the The Allman Brothers Band - Soulshine - sure it will make your playlist
Bob Seger :Feel like A Number". That's how I felt when I first went over seas after joining the Marine Corps. Played it over and over on the juke box.....
This song was 💯 in a Chevrolet commercial! It's all I can picture when I hear this song! Kinda like The Allman Brothers song Midnight Rider in the Geico commercial! 😆 U should definitely check out more Bob! Old Time Rock and Roll is a whole different vibe than what u have heard so far!
Seger didn't get paid much for the commercial. He did it because he was from Detroit and the American car industry, mostly from Motor City, was hurting. His backup band is called the Silver Bullet Band, and he turned down a lotmore money from Coor's Light (the "Silver Bullet") because he didn't want to "sell out..."
He actually worked in a GM plant before he, "made it". Certainly one of my all time favorite songs. The older you get the more it means to you. I'm a 75yo container with a 39yo inside. Well... occasionally a 12yo is inside it. As we say in Texas; y'all be safe.
Bob Seger transcends age groups. Something in all of his songs hits home. But this one....wow. There was a time I was like a rock. We can all remember those days. I took my inlaws to a concert of his a few years ago. Watching them sing and dance along was amazing.
This guy really gets this song. Anyone can enjoy it, but men of a certain age can’t help but be moved by it. It’s a masterpiece, plain and simple-one of the purest and most honest songs ever.
If you want to think about the people and places that formed you, grab some beers, sit back on the porch, and put on Bob Seger. All the people and all the places will come back. Raise a toast to their memory and be thankful they were there for you.
Seger is one of what some critics call the "Heartland Rockers," guys with a working class attitude, sometimes but not always from the Midwest. Seger and Springsteen are perfect examples, along with John Mellencamp and Michael Stanley.
Quite possibly the greatest storyteller in rock history. If you want to react to more of Bob (and I know you do), write his extensive catalog of hits on a board, close your eyes & throw a dart--you can't go wrong with any of 'em!
Time moves on. Its one of the few things we cant control or manipulate. Memories come back as we grow and we see where we were or how we have changed. This song is really deep and Bob tells this story so well. I am 58 and I remember those days as a 18 yo .I still stand for my beliefs, i just stand slower and take pain meds to do it lol. Bob Seger makes you think and i love his music. Great reaction, keep em coming and happy Birthday :)
I think a lot of rap/hip hop fans are not aware of how deep many of the classic rock lyrics are. Yeah, it wasn't just screaming guitars; they had stories to tell back in the day too. Many of the reactors are too young to really feel this song. Glad you felt this one.
The girls in the background was Martha Wash and the absolutely beautiful and incomparable alto singer; the late great Izora Armstead. She had an Angel voice that could move a real man to tears.
We played this at my dad’s funeral. He worked for Ford for 39 years and he was my families rock for sure. Bob Seger doesn’t live that far from me, in Michigan.
This song is one of my favorite songs ever, and it has been since I was a preteen. Having more comprehension of the lyrics as a middle-aged person now, I just love it more. This song reminds me so much of my late husband, who passed away at just 45 yrs old.
I'm 60 now. This is the music I grew up with. Our generation's music had SO MUCH MEANING AND SUBSTANCE compared to most of the drivel being put out today with very few exceptions.
It’s amazing how these icons like Bob Seger, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, Bob Dylan, John Fogerty, Billy Joel, Jon BonJovi, and others I’m not immediately recalling, all have vast musical catalogues from hit songs they wrote from their own imagination or their own experience. True artists and poets.
I wore out my Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet' Greatest Live CD. EVERY song was on target with music, lyrics, and emotion. Each one seems to be "strumming my life" or breaking my heart or stirring the soul of me.
Bro! You brought tears to my eyes on your reaction! Bo’s Seger is a national treasure. You may be late to the game because this is before your time. Welcome to the club young man! WELCOME TO THE CLUB!!!
Bob seger is an absolute legend and American treasure. He has somebody great songs that are simply perfectly written, composed, and performed. Like a rock, Hollywood nights, main Street, night moves, against the wind, roll me away.... And trust me, as you move beyond the age of 40 and into your early / mid-50s ... Like I'm doing now ... Especially if you have children... Bob's songs will hit differently and even harder
Bob Seger and Johnny Cash are the two storytellers of music if you ask me. I can name four or five other absolutely amazing ones right now but something about Bob Seger and Johnny Cash can paint a picture better than anybody. There are plenty of good other storytellers but some of them just rise to the top.
Seger is one of the best to come out of the 70's. In concert, he sounds exactly the same as you hear now. My personal favorite is 'Roll Me Away'..but the list is long. He's the bomb!
I listened to Seger all through high school and have never stopped. Sometimes, nothing moves me like some of his songs. Against The Wind is one of greatest!
Chevy simply used it because they're trucks were built "Like A Rock"! 💪 Song means so much more. Fun fact, there's a band here in Sacramento called CC Seger. They only sing CCR and Bob Seger jams! Fun fact #2. Bob is a 3rd cousin of mine! 😁
OLD TIME ROCK N ROLL...HER STRUT...AGAINST THE WIND....FIRE LAKE....WE'VE GOT TONIGHT...Just a few of the songs you should check out. But. Really. any song you pick is a gem!!! Bob Seger has always been my favorite of all time.
Seger makes you THINK! His songs speak of everyman. You can’t listen to his songs and not remember things that are personal to you and your own life. The years of 17-21 are a magical time in the lives of most Americans. These are the years of our rebirth, a time where we debut as adults. We always remember those days when we grew from school kids living the curriculum of parents and teachers, and spread our wings into what we hoped for of our own lives. These times were made of autonomy, decisions made, failures and successes, plans and spontaneity living side by side, but everything lived in a time when our lives were still FUN! We weren't tired. We weren't burnt out. We were too young to feel like failures. The world was ours to conquer. Seger's songs harness the emotion of those times and carry us back to those magical moments and poignant memories like few artists can. The qualities this song hails in a man are PERFECT to attach to a product you want people to feel will be an extension of themselves and will last for decades. It was a "solid" advertising investment for a company whose product they want people to equate to the strengths of a young man in his prime. Seger may not have written this song about a material object, but he likely wouldn't have licensed it out without being comfortable with the parallels between its original intent and its product-based rebirth. Seger's lyrics don't impress me as words written by someone who would turn into a sellout. Seger can akways make us feel special by taking us back to a time when we KNEW the world lay at our feet. Now that the long walk of life has our feet aching a little, it's important to remember artists like Seger who can transport us back to those easier times just by listening to a song.
@Rocker1983 lucky for me,my wife is a huge fan of Bob...we saw him TWICE on his last tour ...Jiffy Lube in Virginia then his very last show in Philly....love Bob
Bob Seger represents the heart and soul of Detroit, that's why this song was chosen for a Chevy truck commercial. Just like Chrysler used Eminem's Lose Yourself. Turn The Page, Shakedown, Come To Poppa, Her Strut, Old Time Rock And Roll, Ramblin' Gamblin' Man, the list of Seger classics goes on...
