Ok guys, part 2 & Final take on this super rare Cleveland Alloy Block by Ford, 351C 4V.
Firstly would like to thank everyone’s input & comments on the first vid of this👍🏼
So after digging in deep to debunk it’s “intended use” & some other mystery things....
I think it’s safe to say we’ve nailed it now.
After a few potential & “hoped for” application ideas that this block could of been intended for, it is in fact & safe to say that’s its more likely to have been an Indy Racing idea & possibly an item for Nascar/Transam also , & don’t forget the 335-series (Cleveland’s) were on the drawing cards by 68.
Most likely Experiment/Prototypes being abandoned & then made their way out to certain reputable people or teams.
Dyno Don is said to have had one that he Drag-Raced with & others too....
Pics I’ve attached show that they are out there in complete Cleveland form also....
But Pay Attention & feel free to pause & zoom in to read some articles etc that give an insight on all this
👍🏼🏁

Talk to Larry Widmer at Energy Dynamics in TX. for more info on your hunt for aluminum block info, Tom George is dead but Don as well as Kaase and Bob Glidden were all co conspirators with Tom and Larry from Endyn in the 70s to mid 80s. Glidden ran their super swirl Boss heads exclusively after he saw them run on the dyno, they were the Smokey Yunick's of drag racing when it came to innovation and rule interpretation although they also dabbled in NACAR and Indy too. The games they played with the NHRA rulebook were legendary in Pro Stock circles.

G’day mate, I only saw this video today, at the last Toowoomba swap meet there was a bloke selling a alloy block clevo , I was keen as and the price of $1500 was right …. But on closer inspection and talking to the bloke the block had been 3/4 grout filled, also the block needed a ton of machine work. He said that a bloke in Darwin who drag raced them somehow got his hands on about 5 of them. I’m sure that this clevo would still be for sale as it’s a very specific purpose build which not many people would need. I should have brought it and just put it in my lounge room and stare at it in all her beauty haha!!

The 351 Cleveland engine is the most underrated V8 ever. Even the 2V can be a beast. I have a 351C 2V 4 speed that was pulled from a totaled out ‘71 Torino, & even running the stock cast iron 2 barrel manifold with a 500 cfm 2 barrel it puts out 310 horsepower. I rarely have ever beaten dragging from stoplight to stoplight. Off the line it’s incredibly quick. Oh and it’s in a 2WD 1979 F150! Its got a nice raked stance & sounds like a beast with dual exhaust straight to glass packs. Everybody that’s ever ridden in it or even just heard it idle was stunned it’s just a 2V Cleveland. A very moderately built 2V without all the smog BS is a hell of a street engine believe it or not.
@69JANKS

Yes they certainly are 💪🏼🏁 I’ve had my fair share of 2V combo’d Cleveland’s in the day also. Had pieced combo together back before my 4V combo (if you’ve watched my earlier vid).... It was a straight up 351ci, stock crank & rods re-worked over tho, solid streetible cam, well Ported 2V heads etc, xcellerator intake 750 holley..... 340rwhp & ran 12.0@116 in a 3500lb street car. 🏁

Drag racers usually fill the block up to the freeze plugs or so on street blocks in effort to strengthen the bottom end which on dedicated race blocks is cast in.Just another thought noticing the small coolant passages if it has any at all
@69JANKS
@69JANKS 3 года назад
Yes for sure, although some race blocks out there are still normal & retain cooling jackets still & are even better yet , revised compared to factory.....eg: Dart Blocks. But i did read somewhere that cooling passages were reduced in size at certain places to maintain a more consistent cooling pattern between all cylinders....but 🤷🏼‍♂️ Thanks for commenting 👍🏼🏁

@69JANKS
@69JANKS 3 года назад
I don’t think so for a Cleveland 🤷🏼‍♂️, pretty much the predecessor to the “boss 302 4V head” & tunnel port design/style also used on some big block “FE” motors..... Apparently it was a good head but had some flaws in racing applications as far as reliability issues with valve train components with high lift cams or something 🤷🏼‍♂️ 👍🏼🏁
@rondyechannel1399
@rondyechannel1399 3 года назад
@@69JANKS I believe it had more to do with velocity problems because of how the port turned into the valve pocket, which caused a very narrow power band. The Cleveland design had 'ramps' built into the pocket to overcome this design flaw. Notice how the huge intake port at the head opening venturi's down as it reaches the pocket. My take on it anyhow.

@chucksmith7166
@chucksmith7166 3 года назад
What cosworth engine are you talking about that was a clean slate engine because they produced quite a lot of different types of engines. I.e midget. Formula 1, rally, Indy car,, and most of them where all based off of a production platform. The aj coyote engine was an idea that aj himself helped develop. I helped restore one of those cars for the Indy car hall of fame and museum, I spoke with A.J. Personally many times during the course of the restoration on just those details about that engine, so I’m sorry if this sounds rude but if you do not know what you are talking about please keep your ideas to yourself. Real events in history get lost because people like you think you have first hand knowledge. My knowledge came from A.J. Foyt, where did yours come from???
@fredred8371
@fredred8371 3 года назад
What does "4v" mean? I thought it meant 4 valves per cylinder lol.
@69JANKS
@69JANKS 3 года назад
Haha....4V head in Both 302 Boss & 351 Cleveland means it’s the Large Port Head which they use or are found on. It’s really referring to “Venturi” meaning that the stout engines have a 4 barrel carb (4 Venturi) that should have the large port heads 4V & the not so stout run 2 barrel carbs which in Cleveland’s typically then have 2V heads (smaller port style heads) again 2 Venturi.......... That was it’s original intention so to speak, but wasn’t the case at all. Down here in Oz 🇦🇺 we had 351c with smaller 2V heads but 4 barrel carbs......🤷🏼‍♂️ & had 302c also with 2V heads & still with 4barrel carbs.... That was the intention, but wasn’t lol.... So 4V means the Large Port Cleveland head & 2V means the Smaller Port Cleveland head.

Ford wasn't chasing chevy...they where chasing Ferrari. Chevy had already created the perfect firing order to produce a reliable horsepower/torque motor. A radical firing order produces torque but produces stress. 351C / Boss429 are examples of Ford's efforts to produce hp/trq in the window of opportunity that they had. CHASING FERRARI IS HARD...CHASING CHEVY IS JUST NO FUN!
