Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time is the third and final game in the future trilogy and came out all the way back when in 2009. While we are talking about periods of time, this game can't get enough of it. But not just because of its plot.
This game is all ABOUT time in every sense of the word. If that still doesn't make sense, watch the video and come and chat in the comments!

Dude, I cut it from the video cause I thought it hurt the pacing a bit but the radio stations?! Pirate radio is a right laugh and there is basically a guardians of the galaxy station that makes flying around after those movies have come out just, such a vibe

I would say if you’re pressed on time, it’s worth skipping Q4B all together then. Thank you! I decided spur of the moment last night as I was editing to do sunset overdrive, the often overlooked insomniac gem, so I’m just installing it now actually and hopefully have something done by Friday. Not as old school, but then I need to get around to finishing sly and ratchet haha

I think it's very interesting to see the larger narrative around the games design. In reviewing every game in the series we see the life the series took on and how insomniac approached some of the challenges of having a hyper successful game.
@HowGoodGames
@HowGoodGames 2 года назад
Right? If a studio today put out a game a year for almost 8 years it would be labelled as rush. A big part is fortunately due to the awareness of crunch now which is good, but most big studios have multiple devs that cycle through game releases to still have a new game every 1 to 2 years without sacrificing quality (COD, Assassins Creed, etc). Super interesting to see insomniacs ps2-ps4 era and then compare that too current gen onwards, with Spider-Man, Ratchet and Clank and Wolverine all going on at the same time with supposedly no more crunch. Compared to Santa Monica that does a god of war every 5 years or naughty dog that does an uncharted or last of us every 4. They are a machine man

I remember I was on holiday in Aberystwyth (in Wales), when I went into a GAME store and saw Ratchet And Clank Quest For Booty for sale at £19.99, I'd never even heard of it, so I bought it since I hadn't known Tools Of Destruction even had a sequel in the works, played it through and saw that message "The Quest Continues In Fall 2009", I was so hyped and A Crack In Time definitely delivered.

We used to have a GAME in Australia as well but it went under unfortunately. I was exactly the same! I had no idea quest for booty had even come out, I think I might have even skipped it originally and ended up playing it after a crack in time if I remember correctly

God I remember watching the trailer for A Crack in Time and getting so hyped about it. It felt like it was really leading up to that epic end point of the story and I personally wasn't disappointed, although I admit I have a bit of a bias of viewing it through my nostalgia goggles. I remember getting so hyped about it I made the Crack in Time my wallpaper on my old PC. Thanks for reminding me and giving me a nostalgia trip, even though this wasn't my first Ratchet and Clank game or my personal favourite, for some reason I have the greatest nostalgia for it. Thanks Flips! I was honestly thinking this as I was editing yesterday, I think from Sunset overdrive onwards, the mid range dash becomes a pretty core mechanic for Insomniac, kind of how interacting with an environment as characters move through it is for naughty dog. SO, the Spider-Man’s and Rift Apart all have their own versions of a mid range ground and air dash that I would argue is as big for fluidity of not just movement, but combat as the strafe was. Yeah it sucks, I’ve brought it up at the start of some of my ps2 reviews for those games as well, where they were getting in some cases 10 months to fully develop a game. UYA suffers from this a lot to. I think a crack in time though is the one where their ambition and time crashed together with the most impact, with all the ideas they had for a their third R&C entry on the ps3 now they’d had so much experience with that system. Reportedly insomniac doesn’t have crunch at all anymore, which is crazy given all the games they are working on and being only a single team

@JusticeSolaris85

This is a very great Ratchet and Clank game but there are some problems, during the whole game everyone was saying that past cannot be changed and the Great Clock can't act as a time machine, but then the duo change past twice (Zanifar and Morklon) so even the writing team hadn't really idea how to make the plot work properly, Clank also rewinds time of six minutes but then again The Great Clock can't work as a time machine. All the weapons were great and the customization (like Deadlocked) is fantastic and even ship's section were great news. Also Clack's sections were really great, i loved them, but on my second Challenge Mode i found that they ruin the pace of the game for their lenght. 3:24 Insomniac used a radio announcement during the story saying that the lombax Angela Cross went missing in action together with Max Apogee RYNO V was my third favourite, 3000 ammos is really impressive and the music is quite catchy, but my really favourite is RYNO 7, Night On Bald Mountain while destroying everything and everyone while bringing chaos and havoc trough the galaxy is amazing.
@HowGoodGames
@HowGoodGames 2 года назад
Agree with all of those, and completely missed the announcement about Angela Cross, but that’s amazing that they said she’s with the other missing person whose story they also never tied up. I enjoyed the ryno 5 but it’s spread of fire made it tough to use, I was looking forward to unloading it on nefarious but since it has such a wide spread it’s really geared towards crowd control more then anything

I’ve actually decided to give myself a slight break from R&C this week and I’m going to tackle sunset overdrive, it just finished downloading so going to start that and aim for that as Friday’s video. Otherwise my rough thoughts are -into the nexus - last 2 sly games - ratchet ps4 and rift apart Then throw in a Resi 1 review and let’s play to test the RU-vid water in that space. My last Resi video crashed and burned so hoping it finds new life sometime, but going to try this series a bit longer before I give up on it , I think I can make some good content there 🤞

this is without a doubt my favorite ratchet and clank game. it has the story, gameplay, and character development that i always wanted from the series. the only thing i ever had mixed feelings about was the space travel but i guess you cant have everything, even so i liked the space travel. another thing i loved is that cutter garcia otherwise known as torn from the jak series is in this game, hes only a minor character but when i first noticed i was just so happy. i havent played rift apart yet but i hated the game movie game just because i dont like the re used cutscenes, areas, or objectives. i feel like they could have just remade the original game or maybe even the 3 as a collection, either way it made me mad. still havent tried rift apart im hoping its better, ive heard it is. ive been wondering lately if you ever played a 64 game called conkers bad fur day, its hilarious, if your intrested id love to see a video by you on it. sorry for the super long comment
@HowGoodGames
@HowGoodGames 2 года назад
I was going to make a point in the video but I just couldn’t get it sitting right, but basically rift apart feels like a direct sequel to a crack in time imo. So many themes and mechanics carry across and it honestly adds to the argument that given the games are 12 years apart that ACIT was AHEAD of its time as well… damn that’s how I should have worded it, would have had another point in my ‘about time’ list. Rats. Duuuuuuude, I got a 64 emulator and about 2 hours of footage recorded for conkers from a few months back already! I put it on the back burner just because since I’m trying to grow an audience, I wanted to focus on just 2 or 3 franchises max to make a niche and it felt like people watching were PlayStation focused like myself. I wasn’t sure about how other systems would go, but I’ve got conkers, banjo kazooie and bunch of other platform(er)s I plan to get to in the future! Like I’ve literally only played Mario odyssey, only Mario game I’ve ever played. Please dude, I love the long comment (obviously). I’m just stoked you want to talk to me and share your thoughts! @@HowGoodGames I am a playstation centered player but I had a 64 as a kid with smash, Banjo Kazooie, starfox and Mario 64, and I played them all over and over again. I got back into 64 with emulation in my teen years on a laptop that ran slow and that was when I heard of conkers bad fur day. I tried it on my laptop and experienced a lot of bugs mostly with facial expressions, and the pause menu then I got the rare replay version for Xbox one witch is just a port of the 64 version, the best version (from what I've read) if you were wanting to get it, was conker live and reloaded idk how you would get that version tho, I have a physical 64 and the game as well as donkey kong, perfect dark, and Resident evil 2, plus a few others, I know it might sound wierd but I know how it can be on RU-vid, I'd be willing to send my 64 for you to get legit footage. Conker is my favorite 64 game just because of the raunchy humor, crude themes, and 90s movie nostalgia. If you have only played odyssey trust me you have absolutely played the best Mario, I have 3d all stars for switch too if you wanna try out 64, sunshine or world, if you got the 64 expansion for switch you can already play 64 with save states tho. never played world myself but 64 takes patience and it hasn't aged too well not a terrible Mario though, it did start Mario into the 3d setting, I haven't played sunshine much but what I have played feels different as well as the same as many 3d Mario's, it's odd but it's many people's favorite in the series. I understand if you want to stick to the games your on now tho and finish them through you got a hell of a list Sly 3, thieves in time, resident evil, the rest of the Ratchet and clank series, and I'm sure there's other things on the horizon. Either way can't wait to see what's in store. Over the course of writing this and reading your post I had 2 questions pop into my head 1. What do you think of the arenas in rift apart do they hold up tho the rest of the series (I understand if you wanna hold off on this answer until your review for suspense) 2. What's your thought on elden ring I just got it and never have played any from software game prior.
@HowGoodGames
@HowGoodGames 2 года назад
@@michaelstaton1999 Let me tackle those questions first. 1. I've been thinking about this a bit. I played Rift Apart with a huge amount of hype being a big PS5 title and might have had some blinders on, and I hadn't played a R&C game in a long time so couldn't compare. From memory though, I think they are fine but the arenas themselves didn't feel as addictive as even GC or UYA. I'd need to go back now and play it again to properly compare it. 2. I can't answer this one shortly. I love fromsoft and if there was one thing I could do on the channel and have it succeed it would probably be dark souls lets plays. Im not good, but I have a lot of fun with them. Because I play, script, record and edit a video each week, I've had the time to put only about 3 hours into it so far but is still the game im itching to get back to most. From what I've played and seen, it seems to actually be a good entry point to the style of games but I would say be in the right mindset. Don't get discouraged losing souls or whatever they are called here, take it slow and approach each enemy like it will kill you, and you'll fall into the rythym soon enough. Thanks for all the mario info mate! As well as the offer for the 64, thats super generous but im in Australia and if I go down that road should probably just invest in my own one anyway! I have a copy of 3D All Stars just because of its weird release window, but haven't played anything on it yet. I think when I finish up Ratchet and Sly I'll put up a poll to see what people might be interested but like you've mentioned, lot to choose from. Personally, Im really intruiged by Resi and as someone thats never had the guts for it, im really using this as a way to force myself to play it even though I've always wanted to anyway!

Oh and also Dr Nefarious is the villain of the game, that's also a good point to this ratchet and clank

So true, should have made that a talking point! man I barely used any footage of him either, damn. There is so much to talk about for this game, like the whole infiltrating nefarious’ ship mission, maybe I should have just made it longer haha. Thanks for watching!

8 games + they made sunset overdrive at the same time then they made spiderman and they are now working on wolverine.
@HowGoodGames
@HowGoodGames 2 года назад
Im working on a sunset review right now actually! And just posted a short video on one of their weapons, its such a fun games. SO came 5 years after ACIT actually, but they were working on Resistance at the same time so definitely no less busy. But yeah, now they are still flat out as anything!
@flycosis
@flycosis 2 года назад
@@HowGoodGames Yea sunset overdrive has a permanent spot on PC there's no other game I can just pick up put on music and have it always take my full attention. Its a amazing game that solely just wants you to have fun... which is why insomniac is so good they really just focus on gameplay/movement and making sure even if you have no objective it is still fun and engaging to move around the world. When spiderman comes to PC swinging through that game is gonna be like a meditation spot for me.

I was the same man, absolutely obsessed. In Australia the amazing Spider-Man game came out before the movie for some reason, and because it’s set directly after it, literally spoiled everything haha. You’re going to love it dude, maybe I should cover it when it drops on pc too

you know sony could've remade this game instead of the last of us part 1. at least this game had so many cut features and ideas that it would've been an actual different experience (and is also 4 years older than TLOU). oh well we can now only hope for a 20th anniverary legacy collection
