something i think is cool about rivet vs early ratchet is that rivet being in the resistance has made her more altruistic. the first time you see her is when she ignores her mission parameters and goes off to save a civilian, potentially putting herself in danger. she thinks a lot about the people around her, especially if they're being unfairly treated. meanwhile 2002 ratchet got so eaten up inside over the whole qwark fiasco that it almost made him disregard the fate of the whole galaxy, and it was only seeing a planet torn apart by the blarg and some choice words from clank that steered him back onto the path of being a hero. i guess it's like ratchet having a few much closer friends helped him grow kinder, whilst rivet having ties of responsibility to the resistance, the morts, etc. made her more responsible first. i dunno i just think they're neat
I mean, the Plumber did say that he'll be back by the next reboot and this game doesn't seem to be it. Also not only is Lawrence a dad, but so is The Plumber. I'm calling it, the next R&C reboot will be full of dilfs
Rivet: "Who's the better cook, you or Ratchet?" Clank: *stares off into the distance while remembering the time Ratchet almost used a nuke to make pancakes. Yes, this is canon*
3:40:45 late to say but i see this and the way he acts in this game and all the future series is just a natural growth from the first 4. Ratchet goes from a wide eyes and excited-for-the-fight kid to someone who’s seen the darker parts of the universe. Someone who’s killed heroes and villains, who’s fought wars- who’s been imprisoned and who’s been betrayed. He’s grown out of the lust for battle and understands just how bad a real fight can get. Soo to me i don’t think it’s that he is rusty and nervous of a “harder” fight when he says “please don’t get hard” i think it’s just that he’s grown more to a point that leaves him last thirsty for such a large and heavy scale battle because he understands what that can cost and what it means he has to do. Just imagine how much more lax and less battle hungery you would be if you spend the first half of your free life basically in battle after battle. I mean Ratchets character is around 25 in this game and the first starts when he’s 15. Take into the account for the years he was retired and you’d probably get someone more settled down from the “war” if that makes sense- he knows what it can cost.
In defense of Ratchet's fears of battle, if you think about the first game, the reason he was so mad at Clank is because Clank had nearly gotten them killed. I question if he would be as mad at him if that battle didn't shake him up bad. Meanwhile, in the second game where he was like, "Is it dangerous? Good," at the start of that game he had just gotten some intense commando training from Megacorp. Since near the beginning of Rift Apart, he said, "A little rusty, but not too bad!" I find it possible that he's probably forgotten most of his training and has possibly been living in relative safety for the past several years. While I do understand that it's a bit of a stretch, I do feel like it can at least serve as an explanation
I was convinced for sure that the Alternate Clank was going to somehow turn out to be "Emperor Nefarious." Like, I theorized that this dimension's Nefarious adopted Clank as his son, thus acquiring the family name, upgrading himself to have a more menacing, taller body, and preventing him and Rivet from meeting. I turned out to be dead wrong. But I DID guess the Plumber connection right, so small victories.
36:36 the name of the Grunthor skeleton is such a niche reference but it’s fantastic if anyone does get it. Sue is the nickname of one the largest and most complete T-rex skeletons ever found with over 90% of the bones recovered. It was given the name to honour Sue Hendrickson, the American explorer and fossil collector who found it back in 1990. If you ever want to meet Sue the T-rex, she’s in Chicago at the Field Museum of Natural History, somewhere I hope to visit someday but since I live in Australia there’s a whole Pacific Ocean to cross to get there. Cool to see that someone at Insomniac is also a paleo nerd like me though.
31:00 This challenge kicked my ass on the hardest difficulty. Being forced to get up close when the enemies can predict your path is so hard, and those rocket bastards plant little bomb traps.
I feel like Rivet isn't too different from original Ratchet but she seems really different to 2016 Ratchet in my opinion, but so far she could definitely be a lot more different. To me a Ratchet without a Clank would have probably grown up to be kind of a somewhat grumpy workaholic trying to be the adventurer/hero they wanted to be when they were a kid but never having the confidence or selflessness etc to truly do so, and never feeling like they could ever reach that dream.
@@NigelMelanisticSmith I played through on both hard and max difficulty (don't remember the names). and I think the hardest difficulty gets health, but the second hardest dosen't.
Just noticed Dr. Nefarious's scar he got from A Crack in Time. I was wondering about that after the explosion that took place at his base, who put him back together?
So during the discussion of the existance of and alt clank i had a brain blast. What if nefarious is only in control because he has the alt clank. Kinda like whomever wields the clank is the dimension's master.
Gary said that Ratchet may be one of the only versions of himself who was okay with robots, so other versions of Ratchet (such as Rivet) wouldn't have a Clank.
I get what you mean, it feels like ratchet’s edges were all softened out. His attitude and his excitement towards battle being the most notable things to be softened out. And with rivet, I like her, but I kind of wish she was angrier, cause going on the fact that the team making this wanted her to be like a ratchet without a clank, I think ratchet would have been an angrier person if he hadn’t met Clank.
Also rivet feels more like normal ratchet rather than a ratchet without a clank, whereas ratchet doesn’t feel like himself as much in this game so far.
Nah disagree about the ratchet part being afraid of danger. He wasn't afraid of fighting throughout the game even when he got caught in zurkie's, attacking the troops behind hin. so I don't think that the mountain comment of it being "dangerous" makes him seem afraid of danger
I think part of it is that the timid dialogue is way more abundant than the moments of confidence, which I get what the writers were attempting in tying it to the theme of insecurity with the other characters, but it does stand out as being kinda weird for his character. Like in the old games he had moments of being afraid for comedic or dramatic effect, but it was balanced against his more confident and slightly brash personality.
I know backseat is not fun and all that but I'm getting angry that there was a raritanium at the beginning of the first pocket dimension, she looked directly into it multiple times and didn't grab it
My problem with tutorialization continues for literally the rest of the game because the problem persists well past the tutorial. It's not a problem I have because I missed or misunderstood something, it's just a thing I didn't like.
