The last few years it seems like the prices have tripled or quadrupled! I was going the restomod route but gonna just keep my 70 original, function and clean for now. I agree with you John, when it’s shiny and too nice it’s a lot of worry. Having a good daily driver is much less worry and more fun!
Man you have nailed it exactly. I was born in Dec 1970, got a 74 Nova when I was 14(still have it). Today I'm 52 and have three Nova's, one running and pretty nice, another 77 Model I just got that's really gonna be a nice, original car. It's expensive, very expensive and the work isn't easy, the hours spent on these cars runs up like crazy also. Great video, good stuff.
@@allstylinone5122 Awesome man mine was red with black vinyl top I'm gonna restore it probably year after next. I've had it in the garage nice and dry since 2005 it's almost time to get it going.
You couldnt have said it better. My nova started out a s a quick throw together hotrod with a cheap hotrod black paint job but I got carried away and started making a little more money. Next thing I knew, i had the best of everhthing on it and of course its all chrome and shiny. Now that its finished, i dont even drive it because I have to spend 3 hours detailing it after I take it out. Plus every rock chip it gets just ticks me off every time it happens. I threw together a rusty 68 firebird and I drive it daily and never worry about if it gets dirty or scratched. Growing up I always wanted "fancy" until I had it. Ill take fun over fancy any day.
Back in the 80,s and 90,s we could paint a car with bodywork and paint (acrylic enamel single stage) and it would look great! That's what we did for fun!
My Nova isn't painted, and I'm 25,000$ In it. I prefer ratty, a lot more fun when you just chop a fender when a turbo doesn't fit haha. Love the channel btw. I'm subscribed on my burner
I started my project hoping to make it look damn close to new. But after seeing how expensive bodywork is I've pretty much settled on the ratty look. All the mechanical stuff was done with lots of care but by the looks of it, the quarters, rockers, and fenders are gonna have to stay rusty lol. This is my first car ever so one day I hope I can actually restore one properly
I did a Camaro that I did all the work in my garage and did a cheap diy paint job myself to. It’s not perfect but it looks decent and I don’t worry about scratches at all with it. You’re right if you can do the work yourself do a cheap diy paint job otherwise you’ll probably be happier just leaving it patina
the ratty ones are alot less worrysome, now that i'm getting old (60) i get the idea of get it done so you can enjoy it, but in my area of the country there is nowhere to go no one worthwhile to see / visit , so i just stay home and work on my projects get them 95% done and then stop and work on the next one. no sense in buying new tires for them just to sit and dry rot. well you get the idea.
Love your videos and all the knowledge you have about Nova's, i have a 73 SS Nova Hatchback. Big question!!! Where are yku getting your windshields for your Novas from???
Thanks Man! I usually just call a local glass guy and get him to get them but they’re too busy with insurance work to mess with me. I order from Rock auto or Summit racing. I prefer summit.
I don't mind buying an old car like this in rough condition, but I have to improve it. It may sound dumb to some people, but I like trying to have something that looks nice. My reason is because most of what I've owned has been near junk vehicle wise, and I want to have at least one nice car sometime before I get too old and senile to legally drive.
Nothing wrong with nice cars. Im working on one now that will be like new inside and out. I like both styles. Maybe if I only bought one nova I could afford a nice one. Lol.
209, sing along - If you're Ratty and you know it, clap your hands - If you're Ratty and you know it, clap your hands - If you're Ratty and you know it, your driveway will surely show it.... 😂
I have 20k in my nova, and it's primered white, interior isn't finished, and the engine needs replaced. Once it gets warmed up oil pressure drops to 3 pounds. 😂
I actually like rat muscle cars it doesn’t have to be perfect it’s budget and the way you build it these 3rd generation Nova and it’s siblings including the Canadian Pontiac Acadian are a little different but they’re based on the Nova platform
Took me a year to restore my 73 Nova. learned how to do interior/engine/body work all off RU-vid 🤣. I saved myself thousands of dollars and now I know every nut and bolt. FYI I'm not married and no kids 😂😂🤣🤣
@@Shop209 I wish lol. But now I know why it cost so much to restore at a shop. Like you said, It really is a lot of time/work especially in a hot garage Houston heat 🥵🥵🥵I definitely lost some pounds 🤣
i don't know what the paint is called, but i painted a peace of metal tower for my welding job back in the day,it smelled very strong, and i had to use a gas mask to paint it with a brush, that came out nice.
My old ass says you just ran off a bunch of kids! For some people body work is hard. For others engine and transmission/gears are hard. Hotrods aren't supposed to be hard, or for everyone! But you just made sound impossible for som youngins out there.
I have nice and shiny that just stay parked. I have the most fun with my "driver" car, the @joedirtchevelle. Hopefully a Nova coming soon so I can be like you! lol
