RPM wiring
Crank angle sensor plug runs to a (Grey, Blue, White/Black ) which you join to the cam sensor loom (Grey, Black, White) respectively

⚠️ ATTENTION ATTENTION ⚠️ Make sure you inspect and check the Governer Assembley operates as mine does at <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="595">9:55</a> and <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="646">10:46</a>. I was contacted by a bloke who was having issues and a near runway condition first start after doing the mod. The governer weights should push the pin foward onto the correction lever and they need to be moving freely and not sticking. Thats all folks, be vidulant and mindful when doing your pumps 🤙

Hello! I really liked it! If I understand correctly, it is easier and more convenient to remake the Patrol GK, that is, replace the 11mm plunger. And then you don’t have to look for the idle speed cable and the gas pedal. And there is no unnecessary electronics there. Thank you friend!

Happy to help mate. I do not run idle speed increase cable but you need a gas pedal cable. No electronics accept the shutoff solenoid.

Thanks for the video enjoyed it I've put a gq pump in my gu a while back but haven't swapped over plunger yet I'll definitely do that soon while watching ur video again trying to figure out how to put it back together ones it's apart haha

Glad you liked it, it is a bit of a daunting task. But once you get over the fear factor its a fun interesting job, just make sure you watch this video a few times and take notes on the important parts e.g match marking the throttle assembley and checking the governer.

Hey man. Hello from Greece...All your vids are very good edited and explains everything...i have a nissan d22 with a td27 engine from a terrano 2...i replaced the electronic fuel pump with a mechanical. i wonder if you know any tips in how to tune it for some more power cause i haven't find anything good online for this engine...keep up the good work

Nice video and we thank you for details. I made it but i have 2 problemes : starting in very difficult but most important rpm have to be more then 1000 to keep it running. Did i miss something or need to make some ither modificatiln?

Have you set the pump timing with a dial indicator down the end? You may have to loosen the pump bolts and rotate it a bit towards the engine to get it to start easier. It should idle at 700 RPM. You may have to unwind the fuel screw a but to get the idle to dip

Hello, first of all Thank you very much for your videos, they are very use full and help me a lot. But I have a question, maybe you will have some idea how to fix it. I have almost the same setup as you - mechanical pump with 11mm plunger, turbo from 2.5tdi audi, and I have also completly rebuilded engine. Runs very well with nice power. My problem is that - starts are with no problem at cold engine, but after warm up, when I put out foot from gas pedal. Rpms goes down and motor stop = no idling. After that, I have to start with full throttle. If I try to adjust idling on hot engine, than the idling at cold engine is almost 2k rpm. If someone have some idea what to do, please help 😁 Sorry for my english, cheers from the middle of Europe - Czech Republic

Is the governor the only thing I need to look at to know a second hand pump will run okay

The governer is there for the sole purpose of limiting rpm by cutting fuel. A pump will go bad due to wear or seals such as delivery valves leaking, the vane pump being worn and not building pressure correctly or having excessive dirt inside it.

Where did you instal the rpm sensor becaus mine is swapt to but we don know where the rpm meter neets to go or wich on to buy.

if yours is a GU patrol you splice the rpm wires into the crank angle sensor. if your plugs are useable on both you can shave the rpm plug down and stick it into the crank angle sensor plug.

Where did you put the cam sensor? Iv done the conversion too but I can’t find where to put it ahah, if you could show me where you put it I would really appreciate that coz I’m stumped

Check the description but what you do is you unplug the cam sensor and plug the crank sensor into the plug and just bolt the crank sensor up to the oil pump like normal

Hello, fellow patrol rd28 owner here, mine is from 1999 and was told that it uses the electric pump, which is stupid as you said... but I want to know, why is it stupid? pardon my ignorance, I am trying to learn and seeing my options to see if it could be changed to the mechanical one here in my country, because it seems that I will have a hard time getting my hands on one.

Truth be told, the electronic governer means the car is more fuel efficient. The downsides to the electronic system is that it is very hard to tune easily without an expensive chip/modifier box. The electronic throttle has a very short throw, which means that fine input is hard. An example of this is how it surges into boost when your at about 1700 rpm. The electronic AFM and crank angle sensor are very sensitive to any water/mud ingress which can cause all sorts of dramas and money replacing each component when throubleshooting. The mechanical pump offers everything the electronic one does, but let's you tune it with a screwdriver and not have to worry about any electronic signals accept the 12v to the fuel solenoid. It's a very good swap to do as you learn about diesel fuel systems and you can do alot of other work while your in there.

A mixture of things tend to cause it. The first one would be the crank angle sensor, and the second to blame would be the maf sensor. I think alot of the time it's because people have gone out mudding or through a river which can interfere with the engine sensors and electrical plugs on each. Aswell as that the electronic system isnt easily tuneable and pretty underpowered in stock form.

Hola compañero Puse en la descripción del video los colores de los cables que se necesitan empalmar entre sí. la razón por la que los empalmé fue porque el conector de cableado estaba pegado a mi automóvil. Si tiene los conectores de cableado utilizables, puede enchufar el enchufe del sensor del cigüeñal en el enchufe del sensor del ángulo del árbol de levas si corta un poco de plástico con un cuchillo. Usé traducir, así que espero que puedas entender.

Hi mate I’ve done the 11mm conversion to my gq pump, going on my gu. I can’t get any diesel to come out of my injector lines. Cut solenoid sounds like it’s working, and diesel comes out of the return line when I crank it. Any ideas? Thanks mate

most likey your cut solenoid mate. you can try by removing your cut solenoid and taking the little spool and spring out then installing it. this will stop it being a solenoid but will gaurntee you that there will be diesel going to the hydraulic head. if the engine starts you will have to kill it by blocking the intake with a piece of wood or something hard. thats the only real thing that could stop fuel getiing to the injector lines. how long have you cranked it for?

@@ebayenthusiast42 i figured it out mate. I didn’t have the metering sleeve lever fitted into the metering sleeve. Works good now just trying to get the timing right. Great vid btw🤘

the 11mm plunger, metering sleeve and hydro head are all taken off the GU rd28 ETI pump.

@@user-dl3ki2qg6z what colour smoke? If its black/grey smoke thats partially burned diesel which is expected with a 12mm pump. Id suggest trying to wind out the fuel screw. If its white smoke thats completely unburned diesel which is bad, that would be caused by incorrect injector pump timing, no / low compression or wrong cam timing.

I had bad leak in GQ pump. I purchase kit to rebuild it and pulled the pump off and started pulling it away and my nephew said you're crazy. He is mechanic and told me to take it to a diesel mechanic. I doubted myself and took it to a diesel mechanic gave me a price to fit new seals but then a few days later said the whole pump needs rebuilding. When I picked up the pump they said oh for the $200 more we would have taken the pump off the car and put it back on for you so as I struggled to put it back on I was pissed off, all that time dicking away. With the plunger couldn't you have just drilled out the 9 mm to take the 11 mm? Cheers Graham

the plunger bore hole needs to be machine reamed to within 0.01 of a mm in order for the plunger to create a diesel tight seal down the bore. not something doable unless you have a machine shop and the nesescary tooling. much easier to use the heads that have been manufactured by Bosch. when buying directally from machine shops the hydraulic head, plunger and metering sleeve all come as one i.e the plunger or hole is machine first and all the other parts are made to suit that specific part due to the working tolerances.
