I thought this guy said some dumb stuff, so I responded. I just wanted to show that he doesn't really know what he's talking about regarding metal music. If you've never listened to metal before, I'd recommend that you give it a chance.
Here are links to the channels I mentioned. Go check them out if you want.

PS: I had fun making this, but I don't see myself ever making a response video like this again.

ok, as someone who enjoys rap, metal, and punk; Punk Rock MBA pisses me off. Mostly because his name is a misnomer, he is obsessed with marketing and things breaking into the mainstream. @almondex7831
@almondex7831 8 месяцев назад
I mean it makes sense he's apart of the business side of music and since he's been apart of the scene for so long he has seen what makes music last in long term. If u want people to be able to make a career out of music you have to a) actually become popular enough outside of your niche audience to make enough money to keep pursuing music b) have to have a steady rotation of new bands being given opportunities to ensure the genre doesn't die out when all the legacy bands disband or have members enter the next plane c) be interesting personality wise or music wise ie if ur gonna sound like everyone else in ur genre at least be charismatic enough to draw attention to your group or if ur not charismatic enough at least have an interesting sound that separates u from the rest of the groups. As much as people may not like it every genre needs at least 2 or 3 bands that break into the mainstream to draw in more people to the genre to then boost up the lesser known more niche bands

As someone who considers himself a fan of both trapmetal and actual metal, thanks for making this video. It clears up a ton of common misconceptions people have. I can also confirm that trapmetal is primarily based in hip-hop with some influences from metal and punk among others, rather than it being a subgenre of metal. The influences of trapmetal artists are more clearly prevalent when artists such as Zillakami (who I would consider the most influential and well-recognized artist in the scene) branch off into other types of music. His non-trap music specifically tends to show a greater influence from punk and grunge than anything else.

Finn is a man of so many hypocrisies: -He prides himself on his background of punk and hardcore, yet champions so many of the mainstream music industry mechanisms that his scene actively opposed and rebelled against -He mocks rap metal from the late 90's/early 00's, yet thinks the metal crowd needs to be more open and accepting of trap and other modern rap styles -He recently made a video on doom metal and criticized it for all sound "like Black Sabbath", when he's a fan of slam which is literally an entire subgenre of hardcore that is centered around ripping off a Suffocation song.

I dont know why Finn use Spotify listeners as an argument. Kreator, one of the biggest thrash metal bands ever has 400k followers, a lot less than the trap artist that Finn mentioned. Does that mean Kreator is less influential than those trap artists? Popularity does not mean good. Finn is like the stereotype of an American in thinking that the US is the center of the world and everything that happens in it also happens in the rest of the world Meanwhile I sit there listening to him talking about Christian rock and metal bands that were huge in the US but nowhere else. I mean there can even differences in sound of genre depending on what nation they're coming from. German Thrash, Brazilian Thrash and US Thrash all have distinct sound while being Thrash. And there's trap metal which may be and new pretty cool, I enjoyed Ghostmane for quite a while but Rap is a much less consistent genre imo. They weren't added there just fill a quota of "Get at least one or two Black American or Latin American people in our band so that people think we're diverse, accepting and inclusive.", it was because these guys had a love and passion for the music and wanted play in a band professionally, it was because all these guys respected each other as musicians and wanted to help grow the bands regardless of personal, cultural, political or religious beliefs. Obvious examples: Slayer's Tom Araya, Metallica's Kirk Hammet and Rob Trujillo, Morbid Angel's Pete Sandoval, Terrorizer's Jesse Pintado and Oscar Garcia, Suffocation's Mike Smith and Terrence Hobbs, Amon Amarth's Martin Lopez, Oceano's Adam Warren etc.

I only give Finn’s video credit in that it makes sense if you’re interested in metal being mainstream, aka Guns N’ Roses and Metallica in the early 90’s. I think that’s what Fin is arguing for and his arguments are actually mostly right if that’s the goal. Honestly though, i sometimes wonder if recapturing the mainstream focus that Metal held in the 80’s and early 90’s is important anymore. Fins entire video and conception of things is still based in that old monoculture pre-internet universe. I feel like most metal heads are fine and happy with metal existing in its own ecosystem separate from the mainstream it even outside world. I’m in my late 30’s so i do occasionally miss when Metal was on top of the world commercially. I get Fins points but he has faulty logic and inconsistencies

"once you've heard one song in the genre you've kinda heard them all" absolutely not, considering not just all the metal subgenres but even within one band there can be tons of variety.

Excellent video man!! I can't stand that Finn guy. Why does it even matter if metal-heads embrace Trap-Metal??? If the Trap-Metal artists and their following of fans enjoy and believe in the music themselves...why expect an established genre to go out of their way to accept a new style music ??? Finn 'was' only into a few metal bands in his teens and thinks metal fans are generally stupid, racist, and uneducated (he is 45 and has a flat-billed cap...I wouldn't listen to anything he says about any subject...unless he worked at a skateboard shop).

Having my musical roots in punk I was subbed to Finn for a long time. Some of his hot takes started to grate after a while though. Then he put out a video shitting all over prog rock/metal, essentially calling it all pretentious (ok, fair) and uninteresting and I noped out. The guy that can find redeeming qualities in crunk core has issues with dream theater, rush and tool? 🤔
@RichardCranium.
@RichardCranium. 2 года назад
Never knew he said this. That has to be his second worst take and I don't even listen to prog much. His worst take had to be he did not not get into traditional heavy metal because it is less heavy then bands like Sepultura. That makes sense if he has only listened to punk and metal for 1 or 2 years but this guy has been listening to metal for decades.

The main problem with Finn of PRMBA is that he is so full of himself thinking he is a music/scene expert when he is not.I tried to follow his channel for a short while, but i simply can´t stand his attitude. He is a twat and for sure NOT a Punk. He is giving my family a bad name by claiming he is one. So "longhaired cousins" keep on doing your music, we are doing ours and lets meet in each others pit. Hx

I don’t usually comment but I have really been sitting on this criticism for a while. Fin has no right to call himself the punk rock mba due to the way he gauges relevance. There is no way a punk can judge the genre based on popularity and monthly listeners when many influential bands are extremely underground, which he preaches on the regular. No, Avril lavigne is not a better punk artist than minor threat. The genre wasn’t made by rockstars getting famous. And just because it got big doesn’t mean it was the intention of the movement. When people like fin use sellouts like green day as the spokespeople for the genre known for being anti corporate/establishment that’s how you know they’re out of touch

Your point at around 20:50 is absolutley true. I'm 17 and used to watch a lot of The Punk Rock MBA's Videos and even tough i was still listening to Metal (both new and old) i often had this feeling that told me "Yeah i bet a bunch of bigoted idots are listening with me right now, but I'm not one of them". This is exactly the kind of hate and bullshit mentality that he pretends to be against. And then i went to Knotfest this June, worried because a voice that sounded like him told me :"They're gonna hate you, cause you are dressed like a total normie". And then i had the best day of the Summer, with every one i talked to patting me on the back with a "Hell yeah, brother, glad you're here". So thanks for making me love metal more.

I think his worst self-contradiction is in his video "rock fans are mad at MGK again" In the beginning, he says: "remember, there is no such thing as an overnight success, lots of things that seem that way were actually 10 years in the making." Alright Finn, got it. Later in that same video, he says that rock and metal festivals are too slow to accept new bands, since BMTH are just now starting to headline festivals even though they formed around 2003. WHICH IS IT, FINN?!

Look, there IS racism and sexism among metalheads, but that's because metalheads are people, and there is racism and sexism among people. People tend to wear shoes as well, but it'd be silly to attribute their personal or cultural prejudices (or lack thereof) to their footwear. And certainly, there are bands who produce racist content ... on purpose ... but there are countless more bands who don't, and so many metal bands that actively oppose racism. Again, metal music is made by people and some people are racist, so they communicate those beliefs in their art. But it's not metal that is racist.
