reacting to iNfLuEnCeRs in real life - Alexis Ren + Emily Ratajkowski

If i get one more comment telling me that Alexis Ren and Emily Ratajkowski are perfect and real life dolls i'm going to chuck a wobbly lol. Alexis Ren + Emily Rata are both professional models and influencers, so their job is to know how to pose and angle their body to look amazing in photos. It doesn't mean they look like their pictures all the time in real life - that just would not be realistic!
Yes, they are absolutely beautiful, successful and talented. BUT, that does not mean that they are 'better' than you, or more beautiful or worthy than you! There's this running theme of women putting other women on a pedestal, and thinking that they are somehow beneath them, or could never be 'as perfect' as them. Emily and Alexis are indeed stunning, but they're human beings, just the same as you! They have bellies big enough to fit their internal organs, they have cellulite, they get stretch marks - and they're STILL considered body goals! So if you have a belly and cellulite and stretch marks please remember that it's NORMAL and GORGEOUS and YOU are body goals too!
Love you so much! Stephi x

I want videos like this to reach more male audiences. I feel like most of us women are aware of the instagram/reality issue and men are still blinded by it.

Man here to provide some male insight - the flat stomach, flawless skin, no stretch marks, zero cellulite, tiny waist influencer pics are cool, the same way that we look at the 2% body fat male fitness influencers. However only very stupid men, which i think are a small minority expect photoshop perfection - emphasis on the photoshop/airbrushing.

This is true. It's easy for people to make this a vent and have it permanently there. As someone that has a set weight of 100 pounds no matter what I eat or do. I see videos online of people like that and saying they do all this hard work and giving advice makes me feel ill. People have asked me what I do, to which you say you literally eat worse and likely more than they do and have not exercised for the last two months. I usually find people more prone to gaining weight just seem to be more attractive, not sure if it's a consequence of having good genes or just people like me eating too much sugar and processed food because they can. Also cellulite shocks people. Yes, you can have stretch marks and cellulite when people are concerned about the eating disorder you have never had. If you want your children to be like this and have other health and heart problems, just smoke excessively while pregnant. They will look sickly but at least they will be thin

Another thing to mention is whenever we see models at events like the Met Gala they've probably been prepping for it for days/weeks, which could entail some pretty unhealthy stuff like restriction, binge exercising and dehydration so they loose as much puffiness/appearance of fat as possible -____-

Thank you for making this video. I showed this to my 9 year old niece. She would often tell me how she hates how her body looks because of how there are certain “fats” around areas of her body. It blew her mind how these photos are altered and made to look a certain way. Can you imagine, she’s only 9 years old and this is already affecting her viewpoint of humans in general. My heart aches for little girls who are more likely growing up to these ridiculous beauty standards instead of just living their life as a normal kid playing with their friends. Thank you so much for being sensitive and using thoughtful words.

Very well said. As someone who used to work in the modeling industry since I was 13 years old and seeing the photoshop that is done to most photos, it completely warps your mind of what a 'normal' and 'healthy' body looks like. It is so refreshing to see people of all sizes post more natural unedited photos of themselves and have it be applauded so much more than it was a decade or two ago.

Thing is, I am waaay more powerful and trained in my legs. But since that's where my "fat" (I'm rather thin) is naturally, every trainer and even doctors told me to work out my legs more.. which made me have back problems, because I didn't work out my torso enough. 😅 People judge health way too quickly - and wrongly - on body proportions

I’ve actually read Emily’s Book “My Body” and I’ve never realized how insecure these women are. This is not about defending her questionable posts on Instagram which sometimes look really unhealthy, but she struggles as well. Obviously her posts are not helping in our society when she’s constantly showing off how “perfect” her body is, but I think that literally none of us would be able to make “relatable” content when we all feel this kind of insecure. Even our body idols are struggling and suffering with a disturbed body image. I don’t think that we’ve found the perfect solution of showing our bodies in the public yet.

OK..GIRL. Thank you! So, here's what I always dont get about Emily, in particular. She claims to not want to be known for her body and has an issue with others commenting on her body, but literally ALL she posts, is her bare torso. She does it on purpose. She is doing it not because she feels "empowered" but because her 'brand' is her body. That is OK. No shame, there. Work it. BUT, dont try and say that you are somehow better or that you care about women's rights ( she's made herself into one of these people and it is hilarious to me) when all you are doing is showing off your toned belly. You are not helping other women, Emily...because you dont care about other women. You care about your swimsuit line, the ads you make and your modelling career. If you cared about women, you would talk about other things besides your body...because women are more than their naked bodies.

I was anorexic & bulemic, at separate times. It's not worth it, really. You damage different organs & when you eventually start eating again it all comes back (because it's either that or you don't have a choice, if you get me. I'm sure you do.). So, you're at the same spot with worse health! And diets are crap (IMHO)! The only healthy & sustainable way is to eat better & exercise. Start lifting light-moderate weights & walking, if you can. Muscle burns fat, but it weighs more. So, don't go by the scale - measure yourself. I'm prob not saying anything you don't know, so I'll stop now. Lol. Just trying to help!

It's so wild how (some) men just don't get it. I had to explain to my boyfriend that [me] just working out will never get me a body like the celebs (Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Kim Kardashian) or Instagram girls because they have surgery (which I can't afford) and photoshop (which I'm not good at). I told him if he wanted me to get surgery, he'd have to pay for it and then there's the "maintenance" which cost even more money!

Stephanie, I appreciate your candor in these videos so much. It's such a good example of using language to uplift, love, and appreciate our bodies and create a space to rewire an Instagram-riddled brain back to normal. What you said about cellulite being a cool and helpful thing our bodies have done for hundreds and thousands of years, and commenting on these womens' bodies in neutral and positive ways both when they're posed and unposed. I really appreciate these videos. 💕❤️

I'm someone with an extremely small waist and completely flat stomach and I'm still insecure. I don't like my thighs, I don't like my face... we'll always find something wrong with how we look and will never be satisfied because ultimately diet culture and social media wants us to feel insecure by showing us images that are edited and filtered. Also, I can confirm that a flat stomach does not look perfectly flat at all times. During PMS I'm sometimes so bloated it looks like I'm pregnant lol or when I lean to grab something the skin folds because if it didn't I wouldn't have room for my organs.

Thanks for getting the truth out there, people need to know. Most men fall for these fake images, then they compare them to us, setting the bar to unrealistic goals. You are very beautiful and its refreshing to see such a natural beauty who is real. You are doing a great job exposing the truth and helping girls everywhere who are made to feel insecure and resorting to dangerous surgery. My dad used to work for a famous news paper and his job was to edit the topless models pics before they got on page 3. That was in the early 80`s, they also used these fade out lenses while filming celebs even back then. Plus body doubles in movies going back to early 70`s. It is all a big illusion to make money, like you say, by feeding into our securities. Even Marylin Monroe had a lot of surgery. There is more to life than how we look. Keep up the good work! Just found you and just subbed. 🙌💕

Ahh you’re doing Gods work with your videos. I’m so passionate about these topics and I adore every point you made, genetics, posing, the photoshop aspect, their point of view regarding their pressure, their feelings, their hard work and exercise and what depends on those photos, not calling them out for posting them. It is disappointing when celebs do photoshop cos it just brings everyone down and drives the industry but I love your explanation for their side. really they can do what they want its a photo of their body it isn’t attacking anyone, really it’s the fault of the follower if they make the irresponsible choice, knowing they’re insecure, to follow these pages. That being said I obviously have been guilty of doing that and I know there are so many impressionable young women that do this and it breaks my heart because I have so much love for the younger generation of women coming up. its evil how companies make money off making people feel insecure. I love how you brought up how hard their life is because I know many get annoyed when they hear “your problems aren’t all solved when you’re skinny” because many believe their body’s are their biggest problem but it really is true. I just want to ask people “have you ever experienced fun before?” Real, genuine fun. Real fun is being in the moment and completely present, doing an activity, and you are NOT focused on your body at all. Some people can’t experience that because they’re hyper aware of what they look like at every waking moment and that’s my point. Your body isn’t holding you back your mind is. But we are brainwashed from such a young age 😢 and some are delusional or dysmorphic it is such a real, extreme problem

No matter how hard I work out, no matter how much I count calories, drink my water, stretch, etc unless I get plastic surgery it’s not going anywhere. My oldest just turned 5 and it took me up to this year to be okay with it, and embrace it. I used to be an underwear model and also now (30+ y/o) I'm a media designer. The people I worked with have always been so thankful they barely had to photoshop my body. But that wasn't due to my body being "perfect" back then. I just knew how to pose and use the given light setting to my advantage. And let me be absoluetly honest: I hated my body. I always thought I needed to lose more weight, be even smaller, have an even flatter belly, my legs need to look even longer and all that. Now I have a very average size and I have never been more in balance with my body. I have quite a big belly for a woman my size, my hips and thighs got way bigger, my thigh gap is gone and I am so happy! Of cause I would like to look like back then. But I never ever ever want to feel that pressure again. And I know all models I knew back then and those who are still working in that field feel the same way.

For me, when it comes to flat tummies, even when I was in High School, I had a hard time gaining weight, but I have always had a little pot belly that I just can't seem to get rid of. Working out, or exercising has never gotten rid of it. Being 100 lbs soaking wet, it was still there. Now, at 135lbs, I've learned that I just need to accept it. Also, there are SO many (much) younger people on social media that it's easy to wish I looked like them until I realize they are literally teenagers. Your explanation of the FUNCTION of cellulite has blown my mind! Thinking of it as an adaptation for survival makes it suddenly feel powerful and badass 😤
