FYI My husband and I were both raised on farms and have had our own cattle ranch for over 30 years. Please keep in mind that cows are herd animals and do not like to be without one of their own. If there are cows nearby they will try their darndest to be with them so you might want to put an electric fence around where she will be. It's just their instinct. Also, the kind of feed you have will determine the richness of their milk. In California our dairy friends use silage which is a combination of hay, alphalfa and other things that ferments and actually gets them a little drunk. Please also be careful with your grain box that it doesn't sweat. My husband had one that didn't have enough circulation and it sweated too much and the grain became full of mildew and we lost it all and had to throw it all out! Farming can be very hard and trying. But also very satisfying. Good luck.

My family and have an a2 jersey cow near Paris, TN. I have 9 homeschooled children ages 1 - 14. I have been following you for years because I have family members who struggle with infertility. When it comes to packing for sleep overs/weekends. I printed off an A4 sheet with a list (with pictures). I laminated it and then with a whiteboard marker could write the number of items need for the trip. From Cassidy's age. My children could pack their own bags. As a homeschooling Mum of 4. This helped a lot. Kept the children occupied and left me to deal with food/bedding etc.

We did permaculture gardening. It's amazing, everything grows. Natural fertilizers. Proud of you guys.

My dad sometimes got us fresh milk in the glass jugs. He got us Guernsey , Dairy , and Jersey. We hated the Jersey milk , but loved the Guernsey. The Dairy was tolerable in cereal and for cooking. The farmers in that rural area ( mid 1980's ) were selling it for $1.00 a gallon. Good luck on your new cow.

Key thing about Hay- always always buy that years crop, if its dusty it was bailed wet and is not good. Cows can get sick just like any animal off crap hay. Specially dairy cows. Beef have stronger stomachs. Next time bed with straw Hay is awful heavy when it get wets and nasty with poop and pee. Just a few tips to help in the future!
