The New Balance Rebel v2 has undergone some serious changes from last year’s inaugural offering. And while these changes seem to have been universally celebrated by the running community, my take on the Rebel v2 is a bit more tempered. (but don't worry, it's still a very good shoe)

Great review and great colorway, Kofuz. Love your assessment. This is the shoe of the year for me. Extremely versatile at a really good price. I use it as a daily marathon trainer as well as for MP runs. I'm on my second pair. I put 230 miles on the first and could have put another 50 miles on it easily.

Ko, it amazes me how you are able to dissect a shoe and be super spot on after just your first run - I agree with pretty much every detail you describe. It's a very unique shoe; it's so cool to have such a comfy and soft ride with a speed shoe. I actually tend to like lower stacked / firmer shoes (Boston 9, SL20 etc.) especially for my speedier days, it totally surprised me how well the V2 was able to handle harder workouts and still feel so nice too. Great shoe, great 1st impressions, thx!

I had an issue with the shoe - my right foot seemed to collapse on the medial side, causing problematic arch pain. I replaced the insoles with insoles that provided more arch support and that seemed to have fixed the issue thankfully. I didn’t want to get rid of these shoes since I really liked the foam, upper materials, and its overall design. Btw, your colorway is 🔥 - that blue and black is nice!

Great review 👌🏾 I was using Endorphin speed for long runs (>30 km), the idea was to train in speed and race in endorphin pro for coming marathon. But i feel severe heel pain in endorphin speed. So I started using rebel v2 for those 30 km plus long runs...and it suits me very well with final 10 k speeding up. Now I am thinking to race the marathon in rebel v2 💪🏾😂 love the shoe ..one trainer for all runs 👌🏾
@flyingneedle

I like light shoes, so I grabbed these as a daily trainer, but went with the Rincon 2 for my long runs - it's just a bit stiffer with a wider platform, so I feel like it'll keep my form in gear in the latter miles. That said, I don't find the Rebel V2 as unstable as I thought it'd be given how flexible and soft it is. I took it through 14 miles yesterday and it felt great throughout, no weirdness in my ankles or knees. Still using OG Endorphin Speed for workouts. Very happy with this training rotation, works for me - all neutral trainers under 8 oz.

Was so looking forward for your take on those. Just got back from my run in them, reaching over 110 miles and I must totally confirm your view - the review is on point and absolutely exact description of the feel. I usually take them for an easy mid run ending up picking up the pace making the run steasy or tempo in the end. Btw the original white/orange colorway is dope, this blue/black is just ridiculous, but I feel weirdly attracted to it. Like loving something you'd never thought you might love.

As always, thanks for the honest insights. I did a 44k road run that included a couple of mountains in these. Before running I was concerned about how they'd handle steep downs, but they handled everything well. Very comfy, but stable also. Definitely not for trails though. I went up a short rocky segment with some grit over the rocks and slipped badly on the descent. I'm going to try and run a 110k race in them. They just came in the mail this morning and I took them out to run... 50 minute progressive run, going from recovery paces (7:30) to a normal workout pace (6:50) and then to a tempo pace (6:00) to finish. I agree with them not feeling made for the slower pace as they were tolerable, but once I got to my faster miles it felt really light and easy to pick my feet up with the foam squishing me forward. Was awesome and described everything very well!

I tried them on once, but decided they weren't the right shoes for me. Reason: to light and non-durable-looking/feeling for me. Might be wrong though. Don't know. Was my gut feeling. Like my NB's 1 and my Clifton 7's. Greets from 🇩🇪 PS I deeply apologize to the Afghani people...our government system is not famous for its "hands-on-mentality".. PS2: nice view at the end... 😔

That color... Wow. Love it. I got the yellow one and don't really care for the color.

I got the "orangecicle" colour too even though it wasn't my thing. I just liked them so much I knew I'd run up the miles and replace it anyway.

10 miles is my cut off. I like ground contact, but I believe this shoe makes your muscles confused b/c its so soft. I don't think the shoe bottom outs, maybe its foot fatigue

do they fit true to size?

Great shoe, I use it for easier 10 mile and below runs, however, after 200 miles the upper is torn at the point it meets the midsole on the sides of both shoes. The midsole is still holding up though.

Well, I bought these in late November 2022 and after a 100km (I have 2 other shoes in rotation) the upper ripped... Well... I hope I can get a refund in NB store.

Mike, great review. How do these compare with the RC Elite 2? When I tried the RC Elite 2, I found them a bit unstable on the ankle. Anyone here have the same feeling? I like the Rebel 2... and I like the Saucony Endorphin Speed.

Wow, you can really see on a footage what you mean by saying how foam compresses and gives back energy!

Usually not influenced by the colour, but that blue is pretty sweet.

Would you say it's a bit like the Hyperion tempo??
@kofuzi
@kofuzi 2 года назад
similar use case, but the foams are a bit inverted. the Rebel 2 starts out soft and firms up the faster you go (in a good way). the Hyperion tempo starts out firm (in not such a good way) and gets softer the faster you go
