Demonology I went with Manley performance 268 Comp Cam and the Arlington Automotive phase heads on a 2005 Ram 1500 now my question for you is I just bought a 2012 Challenger RT classic has five seven I was thinking first thing throttle body High Flow catalytic converter get rid of the resonators and of course of course the programmer like you said

"The money you save and modifications you could just upgrade" words have never been more true. just sold my 2014 5.7 super track pack six speed manual challenger... bought a 2016 eight speed auto scat pack with the 6.4.. whole other animal 😳... and get this my insurance went down because of all the safety features introduced after the 2015 refresh... keep up the good work

Not true for what a 6.4 cost if you buy a 5.7 hemi for 2011-2014 that's about 15-20k range and then you spend about 8 grand in mods the car still cost way less then any 6.4 hemi car and would be just as fast with the mods this guy has mentioned

Thanks, those are some solid recommendations for a reliable and fun car. I have a '18 ScatPack and am piece by piece modding it along those lines. Did the hellcat airbox/hellcat filter swop. Got a billet 85mm throttle body and put it on my stock intake manifold and it definitely helps the driving experience. Have traded the 85mm with the stock TB back and forth a couple of times and the 85mm is better to me. Also, gained a little better mpg with the bigger TB. Will do the manifold porting this winter and see what effect that has. I am waiting a while for Diablo to release a pcm/tuner for the '18 6.4L, although at least one of Hemi performance shops say they can tune them now. Hadn't thought about the rockerbar tierods and collars....might have to look into that some more.

For the 6.4 guys I have JBA 1 7/8 LT with high flow cats K&N CAI Flowmast OUTLAW cat back exhaust 270 comp cam This put me at 474 WHP and 464 TRQ. I have a dyno video, idle video, and a 3rd through 5th pull. @B Mason I Appreciate your content. It's always an enjoyable watch

B, l bought a 2020 RT Challenger with the 5.7. It's a manual car and I believe it came with the 370 diff. If I'm not mistaken. We bought it brand new in February of this year

Well said B Mason. My grandfather was a max wedge/426 Hemi guy ( could tune a stocker to run high 11s at times. That means of course im a mopar guy (53 this month) anyhow im an old and a new Mopar guy and i love the way you are leading people moderate but with the RIGHT WAY to go. I think we could both add more power for some newer mopar guys but at what cost and $$. Anyhow its great what your doing.

A true muscle car has three pedals, like my 2016 R/T Plus. Who says the 8 Speed automatic are more desirable? I grew up with three pedals in every muscle car I owned.

I have a ‘16 5.7 with the track pak and the 8 speed and i love it! I also put a Corsa Extreme cat back on it, best 1,000 bucks i ever spent. It is absolute pleasure to the ears, you are right about the stock exhaust systems they are absolute garbage on the 5.7’s

Everyday Muscle You are correct. I bought a new 16 Charger RT, 8 speed. The next day dropped a Borla cat back on it. Awesome power. Headers are next.

Finally working on tuning my '17SPS that I've had for almost 2 years and imo chassis/suspension mods I did 1st have done more in the fun to drive/quickness aspect so far as putting the power down and helping the car handle. Currently running Hopnot stage 2 (With monotubes instead of the included monroe quadshocks), Perf4mance Development Diff Brace, BWoody Rear Upper/Lower Control Arms, Spohn trailing arms, BWoody Sway Bar links, Razers Edge Front/Rear strut braces, and the Petty's bolt in SFC's. I also swapped to Factory Reproduction Demon Replica's (20x9.5 & 20x10.5) with ExtrememContactSport 275's up front 305's in the rear and man it completely changes the car. Right now I'm testing/data logging some canned Diablo tunes which did a little something, but nothing like what getting the play out of the suspension and getting some good grip did for the overall personality of the car. Only other mods on the car are a MMX ported TB (Not a true through and through port), BT Catchcan, 180 T-Stat, Flowmaster Outlaw Catback (For the sound), and adding the T/A headlight tube to the Shaker Mopar CAI. I know for a fact some good custom tuning will wake it up a little bit based on experience, but I just don't see it being the same level of difference as tightening up the chassis/suspension.

Suspension plays a huge factor, and most people forget about it. Probably because you cant dyno suspension mods, lol. trans tuning for the autos is a must.

Watched several of your videos now and really appreciate your honesty and directness! Just picked up a 2017 392 Challenger with low miles and wanted to go nuts. True, got my 16 Charger 5.7 RT new...slapped on Borla cat back and headers next. I could have got what I wanted, but liked the ability to build on the 5.7. I Also went with a KN intake and Moderm Muscle Tbody. Absolute beast a tune is down the road. Also, oil catch can.

I have a 18 T/A 392 she is fast enough for me right now! Stay stock till after warranty and maybe do a Hemifever tune? I wish MOPAR put forged piston's so I could boost later. I don't do the drag strip.

I had an rt with an auto. i put 392 gears in and gained almost nothing . I could beet a srt8 int the 1/8 mile than all i saw was tail lights. now i have a 2014 r/t with a stick its more fun to drive and i dont have to b concerned with tuning the transmission.

E85. Cam. Nitrous (125 shot max). Long tubes and a few little things here and there. A tune is obvious. These are what I am planning to do in the future. A 392 is not an ideal engine for boost.

+B Mason do the mods for the 5.7 mentioned in this video also apply to early gen models non vvt or eagle engines? Such as a 2006-2009 charger rt or 300? If mods in your opinion would be different for early gen hemis and even the 6.1 could you make a video like this for those years? Great videos as always thank you!

absolutely, they do. Keep in mind the early hemis can have issues with valve seats.... it may be a good idea to have them sorted before any serious mods take place.

Great video as usual and always very informative bro 😎👍 i currently have a 2015 392 with most of the mods already mentioned in your video...but now I'm looking to upgrade the cam for horsepower (heavy foot) lol. Any specific specs that you might reccomend for me to look into? as well as brand(s)? Hemi tax is 100% ok with me lol Also curious of your thoughts of the kooks short tube headers? And what gains were seen from the bbk short tubes? Looking forward to your next video 👍

Desmond Villanueva having done headers on my car and also being a certified mechanic, I can tell you to go straight to the long tubes. Better sound, better flow, and you only have to deal with the absolute pain of installing them once. The short headers are extremely similar to the stock manifolds from factory and I doubt you will get any noticable power improvements from swapping to them.

Please remind people to NEVER use an email tune. Yes I know that some of you are saying well duh but I didn't know better and now I'm really paying the price. I went with a very well-known online tuner who for the moment will remain nameless and he absolutely destroyed my 392 Challengers A8 transmission. obviously it was not covered under warranty and I had to come out of pocket $5, 000 to replace the whole thing. Once we got into the tune we noticed that the online tuner turned off torque management turned off the knock sensor added rough shifts and a whole bunch of timing and it was just a matter of time and an explosion just waiting to happen. I only made it a few hundred miles before the car went. Since then I paid for the brand new transmission and went to a local Dyno tuner that has an amazing reputation and my car is an absolute joy to drive. People please do not be stupid like me and go physically to a Dyno tune company with a huge reputation. by the way I'm making 500 horsepower to the wheels and I am naturally aspirated and the car now drives like a dream.

Doron Jampolsky I would definitely warn others of what tuner you used to save others a financial issue like yours. If anything I would like to know if you could message me who the tuner was, because I’ve thought about remote/email tuning but have always been skeptical about it.

Javier Morales well it's a fact and I'm not hiding or making anything up so it was a company called Hemi Fever. He tried to blame the way I was driving but I completely baby my car and I had to Independent tuner and the Master Tech from Dodge Terre the tune apart and all told me they were amazed at how long my car lasted. He even said I put nitrous on my car and that's not true.

Doron Jampolsky damn, Hemi Fever has tuned many many modern hemis, I didn’t know their tunes were suspect. So was just the TCM tune suspect or was the ECM tune bad as well. If so, did they try cleaning up any of the tunes with data logging? I’ve always used local tuners with hp tuners on my LS cars. With my 16 SP, the local tuners here are not up to speed on modern hemi tuning.

How much of this translates over to the trucks? I have a 2003 Ram 2500 with 5.7 hemi 4x4. No mods yet other than flowmaster muffler and 4.56 gears. Not trying to race, but I'd like to get up to 400 crank hp.

The more I watch your videos, the more I know that I know little to nothing about car modifications. I know you have touched upon car mods for the 5.7, but I would love to hear about things you have heard done to other people's 5.7 hemis. Specifically talking about 08-14 manual Challengers, and if the mods you talked about in this video coincide with the aformentioned car, or just A8 cars. Would love to hear back from you, and thank you for teaching me to love cars more and more.

Good video and recommendations! I/we absolutely appreciate the honesty. One question though for the 392 or even 5.7 guys , I just recently switched over to e85(ID1000’s and tuned appropriately) and I really love the way the car runs (392). What are your thoughts as a mod for a daily driver ?

Your videos are great man lots of good info! but need some advice here I've got a 2020 challenger R/T with the 5.7 I currently have a afe track series CAI equipped on it and was wanting to get a resnator delete done soon. After the resnator delete I was planning on upgrading to a 85mm throttle body I've read mixed reviews on how effective the bigger throttle body's are with stock tunes. For the time being I have to take my warranty into consideration so just need a professional opinion on the throttle body upgrade figured it would make sense since I'm running a CAI and about to remove the resnators. Want to have fun with my car wish I could do more like a tune etc, but Just need to know if upgrading the throttle body makes honest sense in my situation.

I wouldn't worry about a throttlebody. No gain to speak of without porting the intake. Reso deletee will sound nice. Noticable in car In terms of sound loudness but not too bad in my opinion. You are off to a good start.

Would you recommend going Catless or high flow cats on the 5.7 with adding shorty headers? I’m considering this route over long tubes. Excellent video and topic by the way, I appreciate you not bashing the 5.7 like many other 392 guys tend to online.

High flows if staying NA, catless if boosted. However if you don't have emissions just chop the cats.

Have a 16 Scat. Some mods. Automatic. Was wondering, since Trans 1st gear is 4.7 to 1, 3.55 or 3.70 rear gear? This is NOT a daily driver. MPG is not a factor. Also wondering if MDS can be turned off?

I just purchased a 2013 Charger RT Plus, what are your thoughts on an oil catch can? Not for performance but for longevity of the engine. Necessary? Beneficial? Waste of money? Love the videos!

Thank you! A catch can is a great way to help the engine run cleaner. Just make sure to empty it every 1000 miles. If you forget to empty it, you can end up doing more harm than good.

What’s your thoughts on larger injectors? I’m gonna play with some larger injectors for my 114 octane tune to get a little more aggressive with the tune. Btw 392 of course. Not heard of many people doing it. Sean and I are gonna give them a try

No disrespect. I don't really think shorty headers are worth the money. The 3.70 gears for the 8spd might be to much, unless it's a 5spd . I have only seen 3 cams for the hemi and the 6.4 cam.

I really wouldn't bother with shortheaders, take a look at cook's headers. Long tubes. You'll need a tune, but it's the only way to really get the most out of an exhaust combination on that car

I honestly don't know of anybody that's giving it a shot. I'm not sure that it would gain anything or lose anything , if we're talking about the later-model hemis, meaning vvt.

yes, the tune will correct for it and will also optimize shift points to get the best out of the gear swap.

B Mason. Love the channel. Tired of all the usual “bro” channels. You with RacerX, very refreshing. Spoke to Dan over at Fastman about a TB (your recommendation), and ordering an 84mm for my 6.4. Question, will I need to port my intake also? Heard/read that it’s not necessary as it will match up. Also, have you heard of Jay Greene for tuning? Name given to me from Fastman. Will I need a tune after the TB install or not necessary? Lastly, being new at tunes, how does tuning work/affect the various SRT modes (i.e. auto, street, track)? Big thanks!

Hey man, glad you decided to go with the fast man throttle body. Definitely a good product. Porting the intake will help you get the most out of that throttle body. As for tuning, the different modes will be affected in transmission tuning, not really in engine tuning. And we'll have more to do with how the car shifts and at what shift point. As to tuners, I have heard of Jay green, and many do have good results with his Tunes. That said, a solid Dyno tune is always best.

B Mason Okay sweet. I’m headed over to see a guy locally about porting my intake. Should I be going 84mm on it as well? Figured that would be the case for the tune. Have JBA speed shop here locally San Diego that I may have tune.

@@beedeviled1896 yes, 84mm is the best option for you. As to the tuning, make sure they have a pedigree of Mopar tuning.

B Mason Good point. Jay Bittle (JBA) is a member of the same Mopar club. Lot of the club guys use him. For the intake, it’s plastic right? The SRTs come with shorties already and the cost to do longtubes and gain on an srt aren't very cost effective.

Sir, I have an 18' T/A "392" auto. Been in touch with Jay Greene. He told me that with his tune and (PCU) swap with a Fastman ported Throttle Body. I could expect a 25-30 HP gain @ crank? Will I have normal non-open throttle operation's. I was told that the stock exhaust manifolds are made like a short to mid length headers? Please reply...

25 to 30 horsepower is at the limit, and I mean far limit of what you can expect to get at the crank. You do not need long tube headers. They simply won't help you. Ask for the throttle body, you'll love it. Fast man does a great job and I recommend his products.

So why short tube headers over long tube headers for the 6.4. I have a ‘18 scat pack charger and I’m taking my time to mod I’m really considering an aftermarket cat back exhaust (solo performance) but I’m wondering about headers now...any input

I like the short tube headers, mainly because the long tube headers just don't work as well on a hemi. They don't hurt anything, just that the shorties will make solid hp up top, where the long tube headers will tend to fall off.

One thing I noticed with long tubes on the 6.4L cars is ground clearance. Those pipes come DANGEROUSLY close to the ground from what I have seen. Thoughts?

I was wondering the same on why the short tubes. Do you know if the shorts actually make a difference in sound? Also, would you still recommend shorts with an added cam, or long tubes if you add a camshaft for optimal performance.

No. The older LX platform used a Getrag diff. The newer ones use ZF diffs. Check out motive, I believe they have a gear set which will work for you. Also, you can install a 3.90 out of a 6 speed car of the same vintage

Chris Devall I had a 2017 r/t and loved the stock exhaust. In fact, i liked the tone better than the 6.4L with the same active exhaust. If I kept it would have done some shorty headers and no more.

Depending on what your stock gear is, you could go with the 3.09 out of a 392 and call it good. That is what I am running in the hellcat.

So just bumping up the gear ratio will work on that? I should be close to 500 at the wheel i just want to protect the rear off the line if i do qny sort of launch

not sure about the interchangability. Most do not go with aftermarket oil coolers, doesn't really need one.

The answer to that question relies solely upon your budget. Headers and Cat-Back should be at the top of your list. A camshaft and larger throttle body can round out a very solid combination.

People have limited capacity for critical thinking I think. I saw that other vid and I didn't hear what most others heard. I just heard the sensible advice, no one mod is going to give you 60+hp (blower & nitrous excluded). Bit here, bit there or leave it alone. If you haven't purchased yet get a bigger Hemi 6.4 instead of the 5.7. Clean up the stock manifolds, get shortys if you have to and can't answer long tubes. That was it wasn't it? BTW, I like your idea of the final drive ratio change in the 5-7 and how they run with the 6-4s.

Your statement is very true. For some reason people do not want to listen to the voice of someone who has been there and done that over and over and over and over again. Headers on a 5/7 help mainly because the stock manifolds are terrible. There are some shorty headers available, however fitting it can turn into a bit of a problem with them. Speaking of modifications, in this case Hardware. It is extremely difficult to speak on performance modifications when there are so few available for the aftermarket to begin with. Hate to say it, but outside of a supercharger, nitrous oxide and in mini cases of ported manifold. There is not a lot of room for improvement with these cars basically because there's no aftermarket support for these cars

Great video!! I know a lot of tunes raise the rev limiter on the 5.7, what is a safe rpm for a stock 5.7, I see where a number of tuned 5.7s are turning 6100-6200 rpm and I was wondering if this is safe?

I like to keep them under 6400 rpm. Peak power with a stock 5.7 is roughly 6200 (with headers). 5800 with stock manifolds, It also depends on the application.

My 392 Scat Pack Challenger has Kooks Long tube headers, Custom Tune (started with a Hemifever tune then fine tuned by my local custom chassis dyno tuner). 18x5 Weld wheels in the front with M&H 28" tall front runners and 17X10 wheels out back with 305 M/T ET Street R tires. I added a ported stock intake manifold and ported stock throttle body. I just ran my car last Wednesday in 3400 DA and it went 11.83 @ 116.5 mph. I think the wheels/tires and tune should be your priorities. I also have have Borla Atak exhaust. Honestly, the exhaust is probably a waste of time. I did it for the weight.
