No one has ever spoken of Race, gender, native Americans and political correctness, compressed it into a ten minute section of a video and put it so fucking brilliantly in the history of time. Bravo 👏 Cheers 21

I recently found out that the lead writers of the game are British. Really explains the politically correct tone and the game's clear disdain for proud southerners

Its refreshing to hear a brit that knows rocket ball ammo was junk. Also thanks for using my favorite native meme. My mother had a bumper sticker on her car when I was kid that read "of course you can trust the government just ask a native".

Some of the writing in GTA V was a bit eyeroll-inducing how it handled race and other issues. Pretty simple workaround for Rockstar: make one guy a yuppie burnout, make one guy mentally ill but functional, and make the other one wholly noble. And make everyone else a Simpsons-esque stereotype. Everyone wins! This is an interesting development in gaming: writing AAA content without upsetting SJWs. Quite the unique chess match. I have always applauded Rockstar's cynicism, going back to its DMA days. The Red Dead storytelling seems like a much more sophisticated meta-troll than a compromised vision. It is like the writers *deliberately* are going out of their way to show "journalists" that they think so little of them that they are not even getting a scrap of controversial content to chew on. Nothing. Remember back in the nineties when Mortal Kombat was considered bad because a player could remove the spinal column from his animated, fictional enemy's then-living body? Now, we have Red Dead, a game wherein a player can kill thousands of people in graphic (and creative!) manners but no one cares...unless the person killed possesses a certain innate characteristic. Have we reached Peak Outrage? I kind of hope so, so things go back to normal. But a perverse part of me likes watching these non-thinkers eat themselves. I really enjoyed the content here. Excellent analysis, as always. I hope this comes to PC.

I dont think playstation exclusivity is the reason it didn't come out on pc as it wasn't a playstation exclusive. I think it's purely so they can release the game twice and console gamers buy it again for pc.

I would rarely fall in love with major triple A games of this current era, but I will say this, I still play this game, a year later and I have put it in my list of top 10 greatest and favorite video games of all time, no joke. I love the story so much, Arthur is a very great character, he was written perfectly.

I love the story, never ever thought there was something wrong with the ending. I thought it was done excellently. It was really really immersive and sad. Arthur's death was done great.

No idea if this is what you were going for with the ending, Kilo, but it totally reminded me of Robert DeNiro stomping the shit outta Billy Batts during Goodfellas, haha. I know I'm late to the party, but Kiloton man I've been watching all your vids the last few days. Excellent work! I plan to by Red Dead the next time it's on steam super-sale. It may be the first time I violate my own "no games with in-app purchases" rules. My "bigger" issues is that when I see a title has micro-transaction I know that the game has to be "locked down." Some form of heavy anit-cheat/piracy is getting installed on my PC, and there will be little to no activity from the modding community for the title.

Still to this day, my weapons in my inventory will disappear damn near every time I get off my horse. It doesn't matter if I go to the gunsmith and bind certain guns to my inventory, every time I get off my horse my inventory is empty when it comes to the long guns.

Searched for KCD tips and literally closed the game to watch your videos, enjoying it

I found this difficult to get into for about 5 hours. Over 100 hrs later i was gutted that it came to an end. The immersion and sense of historical prospective is fantastic. This is a brilliant summary of the game.

The online "fast travel" is even fucking worse...and so is the $15 charge to get back to your camp that also randomly moved around.

Surprisingly, now days from 2022, Red Dead Online has never been the horrible microtransaction-laden nightmare we worried it might be. The opportunity is there... you can buy gold bars that are requires to unlock content. But its not hard to make them in the game and RDR2 does not make Rockstar anywhere near what GTA5 does. Its a different style of player that chooses Red Dead. Its a different more laid back vibe. The long journey and hard work is really part of the appeal. At first it was griefers and flexers who thought it was gonna be the next GTA.... but theres no flying nuclear horse w guided missiles or alien lasers, its hard to be griefer... it doesn't appeal to dimwits and children like GTA does.

I love most of your points but the native peoples thing, while there were custers and Chevingtons, remember the reason they were negotiating was because congress and the US didnt agree to whole sale slaughter, a point chevington documented. Native american lineages have survived while their population has not. This indicates population fell but entire groups wernt wiped out, disease not guns won the west long before any resistance could be assembled intact only 3 wars were launched with only the Suex war being strong enough not to be given the title of "rebellion" by the gov. As for population, North america didnt have a Aztec or Mayan civilization maybe given 1000 years the advanced Iriquios would have built them as their governement was truely revolutionary, but the natives died to disease because they didnt have a mass population they never corralled or domesticated the cows or pigs from buffalo and boar [ staples of population and disease growth]. They were few and unprepared for germs. While the US is ruthless- ask the Spanish if we ever looked into the cause of the Spanish war, the Native Americans could have only hoped to find 1 better country - England - and they lost. Truth is there is no good way to approach somone significantly weaker. No one likes child soldiers but if encountered and they are a threat then they are a threat. Stone age societies are a impossible solution to deal with but it's not the same thing as oven camps, moroding armies or Timirid skull piles....

I get you didn't play the first game, but that part where you mention rdr2 taking heavy inspiration from kingdom come is just flat out wrong.

90 percent of the matching mechanics between rdr2 and that other game are also shared by rdr1 so if rdr2 didn't have them it would be disappointing, so if anything the developers of kingdom come deliverance took a sneaky peek at rdr1.

It is a fun game however who thought to implement a horse that is afraid to get close enough to mount (sometimes actually running away from the character when he aproaches) when you wistle. And the good ol rockstar trick destroying my x button for all the mashing to run anywhere. Or every mission were it equips different guns then i had while there was no reason to do so (not counting the sniper missions ofcourse)😂

As always your review's are the best. The way you take your time and go over the small details is priceless. I cant wait for the "horse love" dlc. A lot of complaint's about the game come from the "microwave" generation, I want it all, I want it now, and I don't want to have to do a thing to get it. As for the immersion the only thing I need is autograph photo of you in assless chaps, saddle sores and all, to make it complete. Thanks for all your hard work you put into making these vids.

The game is solid, _overall._ But the story and missions I won't ever play again for a second time until at least a year later. Its that oppressively linear and repetitive. Go here, ride there, "Oh. Bad thing happens. What a surprise.", shoot people a few dozen times, escape, shit-talk about what went wrong, repeat. Oh, and you better do everything the game tells you *OR ELSE.* The only mission that actually changed things up is the Valentine bank job with Bill, Lenny, and Karen. I didn't fire a single shot and opened all the safes manually. Doing that way that time (I restarted the game on chapter 5 since some side missions disappear if you went too far) _law wasn't prepping outside guns drawn, no shoot out happened, we got away cleanly and quietly._ That shit felt *GREAT.* Too bad that was the only one.

Eh that fact about similarities with KCD could probably be because this game was set in the 19th century, and the 19th century is a bit more similar to the 15th century of KCD as compared to today’s 21st century. So I think that this fact that you mentioned is just a testament to the realism and immersion. Plus I think that the idea and mechanics of RDR2 and it’s was being made(at least in theory) by Rockstar for quite a lot of time; even before warhorse Studios got the innovation and idea to make KCD, also it’s highly unlikely that they could change anything significantly in just the remaining 11 months.

We really need a non western version of this game.

Storytellers have been doing this crap with villains/bad guys for a very long time. Remember the episode of the X-files where it showed the cigarette-smoking guy's origin? To make it short: he shot MLK, but the show made SURE that the character said over and over, again how much he really respected MLK and all that jazz. That was one of the main villains of that series, responsible for all sorts of atrocities, but the show made SURE to let you KNOW he at least wasn't a racist. Yeah, I've been seeing this shit programming since before that, even, and I've never been able to un-see it. Imagine how I'm feeling right about now...

My friend landed a job at Rockstar NY after his involvement with developing indie games, though he was relegated to the Rockstar Social Club, for better or worse. He also got to do something with the VR LA Noire thing. So, for all aspiring indie devs, know that you can always sell out and be absorbed by a AAA. Seems like it was just yesterday we were gaming all the time and having me test new launchers with him, blah blah... Swallowed by Rockstar 6'ish years ago and all his time along with it. I do love Rockstar though, production value goes a long way with me. I did sort of prefer GTA IV to V and the first RDR, but the latter is probably nostalgia. I refer to crowbcat for the former GTA example, it got worse in V for some areas. Which is partly why I put 2008 as the pinnacle of video game years, search games that released in 2008 and you might see what I mean.

This is a brilliant review And dunkey was wrong about the ending. It actually did a great job of wrapping things up - without overstaying it's welcome. The epilogue is just that, an epilogue. That being said, Dunkey still makes salty comments about people clowning on his review of the last of us 2 (which he loved) so I take his review with a pinch of salt

You want to talk about weapon balance? Don't get me started on the Varmint Rifle and how overpowered it is. All shots to the head, regardless of weapon, is a one hit kill. You can even one shot enemies with a weapon designed to take out small critters without butchering the meat. If its a body shot, it tickles the enemy more than anything, but what makes it overpowered is its extremely high accuracy and how it only takes a quarter of a second for the reticle to tighten for maximum accuracy. Combine that with one shot head shots and you got an overpowered weapon on your hands. Its clear they gave it such a high accuracy cause the weapon was meant to be used to take out small animals, those animals of which have incredibly tiny heads which are difficult to hit, so the accuracy is needed if you want to actually get a good pelt off of them. If they just fix it to where you cannot one shot anything larger than what its designed to kill, then I would be fine with the weapon.

The only way they are going to go "games for all Platforms" is make games "not" for consoles. They are in the experimental stages now where they create the game and whatever you use to game you buy it there, no more exclusives, all games will be available no matter your device. Red Dead redemption 2 was made for Sony with PS4 code (not true 4k) (720p not 1080p only upscale) - & ported to Xbox one, then PC later due to PC's being the most problematic because they are turd, rockstar had to blue tack it to pc... Whine whine whine, me want PC version whine not fair whine, what about us, what about me.... Well you got the game on pc right and you whined about that... Never relax too much and learn how to quick draw deadeye. That'll save your ass big time and make you feel like "the man with no name" when you go from conversing with a passerby to droping 5-6 banits in half a second with your Schofield.

My issue with this game is that the game basically plays itself and takes away control from the player several times. Why does my horse auto slow-down when going close to a mission point. Also the game is super-easy on top of all this!

Honestly I loved the ending, loved the whole thing. Also I played this game without ever playing the first one as I don't own an xbox or other consoles, never looked up what happened in it but always wanted to play it. When 2 came out I didn't even know it was a prequel. Everyone should play the games in reverse order. :D I can't help but feel that if I knew RDR1 before I played 2 it would spoil a fair chunk of fun.

Its sad they have to play it safe with the story and characters to avoid outrage. I can understand dumbing it down a bit but we now lose the historical context that reminds us of the atrocities of the past and will likely doom us to repeat them albeit in the opposite direction.

Random encounters, treasure maps, hunting, buying rooms in taverns, this exact wanted mechanic, whistling for your horse, gambling mini games were a thing in red dead 1 before Kingdom come was a happy though in the developers head rockstar mostly took mechanic that worked from their previous game and put them in this one

Maybe the will do the right thing now and not fuck things up like they did with GTA:Online. Still this game is one of the best that I've ever played.
