In this episode we drive the Chinese electric SUV Hongqui e-HS9. Translated into Polish, the name is red banner. Hongqi is a Chinese luxury car brand owned by FAW Car Company, which is part of the largest Chinese car manufacturing company FAW Group.
Hongqi was launched in 1959, making it the oldest passenger car brand in the Middle Kingdom. Initially, Hongqi car models were intended only for high-ranking government officials. They could not be purchased on the open market. Production ended in 1981, but in the mid-1990s the brand was reactivated thanks to cooperation with Audi. The Chinese brand used the technology from the Audi 100 to build a luxury sedan and, based on this car, it constructed another incarnation of its luxury limousine between 1991 and 2006.
Upon entering the FAW group, production of completely new Hongqui models began, built based on Chinese technical thought and Chinese solutions. Hongqui cars were still intended for officials and party dignitaries, but they were also available to ordinary citizens. Today, Hongqui offers sedans and SUVs of various sizes, all premium. The L5, H9, H6, H5, E-QM5, LS7, HS7, HS5, HS3 and HQ9 van models are in production, as well as the most luxurious SUV presented - e-HS9.
The car is a nearly five-meter long SUV with three rows of seats. It was designed by Giles Taylor, the same stylist who created the shapes of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan. It also uses elements found in European premium cars, such as air suspension. In the President version, passengers in the second row have separate comfortable seats at their disposal. The car has extensive equipment, safety and driver support systems.
The most powerful version of the car has four-wheel drive and a power of 551 HP (670 Nm). Acceleration to 100 km/h is 4.9 seconds. The maximum speed was limited to 200 km/h. The battery has a capacity of 100 kWh, which translates into a range of 465 km (WLTP).
