Native Americans are our brothers and sisters in Ireland. A couple of years after the Trail of tears they saved a $170 in 1847 and sent it to a starving people in Ireland during the famine where over 1 million people starved to death. It's a deed never forgotten.

When Lolly and Pat Vegas were hangin out with Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix on the Sunset Strip late 60's, Hendrix encouraged Lolly to put together a Native American band, and also suggested the name Redbone (Lolly's nickname) Hendrix was a huge fan of Lolly and his guitar style. Hendrix himself was half Cherokee. Wado, great reaction ✌🏽

Just remember that this was back in the 70's - way before even you were born or even thought of!! Listen to the riffs, Lolly's smooth tones, and how he's even scatting!!! For a 4-piece band, they sure turned out an awesome sound (as did most groups back then). No autotune, voiceovers - just pure raw talent! Love, love, love this group and they should have been inducted in the Hall of of Fame already!

If you've listened to Jimi Hendrix, you've heard Native American music, as he had black, Cherokee, and Scottish ancestry. This band was his idea. He told the Vegas brothers Lolly (the singer) and Pat (the one in black) to do the "Indian" thing, meaning do an all-Native American band. So, they did. If you've heard the Black Eyed Peas, you heard another Native American in action. Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas is Native American and Mexican, just like every member of this band (except the drummer, because he's the Filipino cousin of the Native American-Mexican man who danced in the beginning). You've heard more Indigenous music than you think. They are in every genre and every genre is derived from them. Even blues and gospel borrows from ancient Indigenous songs.

Fun fact: Hendrix (who was part Cherokee) suggested the name Redbone to the Vegas brothers! There’s a really great graphic novel about the band called Redbone; they were a lot bigger outside the US and actually had a really successful run in Europe (Witch Queen of New Orleans, and We Were All Wounded at Wounded Knee both are pretty great) I didn’t see anyone suggest any other native bands in the comments and your reaction to Redbone was such pure joy to watch that I have to recommend a more recent band, Halluci Nation, an old classic, Buffy St Marie (who was also on Sesame Street in the 80s!), and a shoutout to a Canadian duo, Twin Flames (they sing in both English and Inuktitut…maybe French too?) Anyway! Loved this! Thank you!!

There is a very rich vein of Native music, but mostly unknown among mainstream artists, sadly overlooked. I'm happy to see Redbone getting some much-deserved attention. Others have commented on some of the many excellent Native artists. There is a sub-genre of the music of the Native American Church called Peyote music. I think one of the best singers is Verdell Primeaux from South Dakota who often records with Navajo singers. His dad and uncle invented the use of harmonies in their Peyote songs. It is absolutely gorgeous. Anything you find by him will be wonderful, and very different from anything you have ever heard. There were times when I would open my bedroom window and let the music from an NAC ceremony lull me to sleep. Here's a beautiful one that Verdell and Johnny Mike, Navajo did on a Robbie Robertson album: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q2deKkmCZiA.html

Loved the reaction. :) lol So As my Grandfather use to say, We live in the only country in the world where your openly encouraged to embrace your ancestry and that of others. "However", He would continue, "For those who like to tell others to get out, Your making an assumption of ownership that only belongs to those who have been here the longest. As such the rest of you are all guests so act like it. You don't walk into someone else's home as a Guest and then kick some one ells out with out the owners permission, its Rude and disrespectful, to them, your Host and to your own parents who where suppose to have instilled in you some semblance of manners". :) As to the Music, Yes Redbone was Awesome. Many cultures have lent much to modern music and all of it should be embraced for its originality and how it inspires and unites. No matter where it comes from a rhythmic base drum can enflame the sole of any one. A lilting melodic wind interment can make the mined sore and heart lighten no matter who the listener. Music is Human, it transcends Raise and Gender as nothing ells in the Human experience can and is a Living Proof of how alike we really are to one another.

I'm a Blackfoot/Crow Native. This is the best band. As for his mustache, I can grow one hair on my chin like ever 5 years. Lol. That might be the only way he can grow it. Look up the group Blackfoot :)

Grew up in the 70's. I must have heard this song 1000 times it was all over the radio. However, they played the studio version, without the Native drums at the beginning you see here. Also, only 3 channels on TV in those days and no internet... I didn't know until just today it was an all-Native American band. Cool. Thanks

Even Native Americans came here from somewhere else - they walked the Siberian - Aleutian land bridge during the last ice age. Long walk. We all immigrants here, but no doubt, they got here first.
