As a kid of the 1980s , I saw the Remco mini monsters everywhere. I owned nearly all of them . Bought the playcase many times.. But the only 9" figure I ever found was a Phantom at a yard sale in 1986. He was missing all his clothes but I recognized his face. I paid 25 cents for him. I never even knew where he came from and that he was Remco until adulthood.
It's interesting how certain toys can miss us entirely, even though we should have seen them. Same thing with old TV shows. There are shows that I should have seen as a child, but never heard of them until adulthood.
Thank you for sharing Billy with us! I, too, have a black cat (Shadow) and I adore.him. he sits in much the same fashion when I'm drawing or working on projects. I hope we get more of Billy next season - though I know cats are very independent so it's his choice!
Thank you! Shadow is a good name for a black cat! I don't know why Billy doesn't come up on the table like he used to. He's a bit older now, but he's still a young cat.
Wonderful Way to end the season with a great BOH 2.5 Hr Remco Monster Season Finale! 🎉 I’m partial to the 9” figs myself but..I do also have nearly two complete mini fig sets of glows & non-glows. The starburst cards are my fav too. I also like the way they moulded the webbed hands on the Creature figures….non glow being a slightly better version. Great entertainment and thank you for all your hard work this past season. Have a great Summer Ray.
Thank you! I might be more inclined to collect the mini-monster card/figure variants if there were dramatic differences between the non-glow/glow/starburst versions. The differences in card art are subtle. The Creatures are the only figures that look noticeably different between glow and non-glow.
Awesome season finale. I remember seeing all of these as a kid and wanting them, but I never had any of them. I am starting to buy most of them now because of your show. Also, same thing with me, I turned 10 and then everyone stopped buying toys for me even though I still wanted them. Thank you for all that you do. Take care.
I am happy to say I am a chronic re-watcher. I've watched everything more than a couple of times. I put your channel on, from the very start, and let it play while I'm working at home. Many, many nights of binge-watching and/or listening Basement.... of .... Horror. I found your channel on one of those nights a few years ago. I accidently clicked your video instead of whatever I intended to watch and the Tomb of the Topstones kept me company.
The card art is absolutely awesome. Glow-in-the-dark feature was such an amazing phenomenon as a kid. I wish I had Dracula. Thanks for the great video! 🧟♂️
What I would like to see are toys capable of being collected and conserved, but also durable enough for daily play. I'm absolutely all for preserving fragile and rare toys. I'd just like to see some knockabout toys that kids, including those of us who are eternally kids, could play with to their hearts' content and not worry about.
I finally found time to watch it all the way through... Another great episode. You're actually getting me into vintage collectible collecting, so while I thank you for that my pocketbook doesn't 😆 Enjoy your summer!
I had a number of the Remco monster dolls years ago, but had to sell them when I realized that when they are out of the box (I didn't have a box for any of mine), the rubber bands holding them together would eventually wear out, and the figure's top would separate from the bottom.....as happened with my wolfman. So I sold the others before the same thing happened to them. The person I sold them too apparently wasn't bothered by that possibility. I still have several of my smaller figures. I love the recent NECA figures, except that I could only get the first three. The Creature was a con exclusive, and The Phantom and Dracula were online exclusives which are selling for outrageous prices in the secondary market.
I don't remember if any of my childhood Remco monsters are restrung. I don't think they are, but I probably wouldn't remember if it was an operation I performed in childhood. I'm not going to risk pulling on their hips to find out. My childhood Kenner Alien still has his original inner rubber bands holding his arms on. I have some childhood Mego figures with original bands or elastic inside. I did have to restring my Bionic Bigfoot, and one of these days I need to restring Chewbacca. My large size Darth Vader seems to be holding together.
Always sad to see the season finally and I appreciate your time and commitment. The 3/4 Phantom is unique because not many toys of him have a closed mouth, most are showing the teeth with that grin of his. I must say I do like the Neca Glow in the Dark Dracula & Phantom.
That's a good point about the Phantom. He does seem to always have his mouth open as an action figure, statue or model kit. It probably started with the Aurora kit in the 60s. That became the default look for Phantom merchandise. The Marx figure had an open mouth. The Hasbro Mystery Game depicted him with an open mouth. The carnival bobble head gave him an open mouth. Even the unlicensed Lincoln International Phantom has an open mouth. To be fair, Chaney did tend to part his lips in many shots.
I passed on NECA glow monsters because the blisters had started to detach right there on the pegs. Didn't give me a lot of confidence in the quality. Great to see the originals, though. Hi, Billy!
The first series of figures, the ones sold at Target, do seem to be made to lower standards. The second series seems to be more robust. Thank you for appreciating Billy!
I love your videos! That black light poster is awesome! When was it made? They are so nostalgic and if I need to relax, I watch you videos and they put me at ease.
You mean the big Phantom? That's a pretty good find! You could probably find some Frankenstein/Dracula replacement boots that will work on him. Get a repro mask/hat from Brentzdolz. An authentic cape would be difficult, but a Dracula cape would be a reasonable substitute.
Great video, but I never understand "Mint on card" requirement. I think the reason for buying toys is to enjoy the toys and put them on display...or play with them. Otherwise you're a product collector.
Folks have their reasons for collecting or collecting a certain way. What works for you is what works for you. You don't have to understand it. If you want loose toys there are plenty out there. Raymond has explained what the appeal is to him both being toys and being items to collect. I'm not a toy collector myself but there is an appeal to the mint/moc/mib stuff that isn't about money. I happen to collect records and I could just buy new copies of things and play them but I prefer vintage records and early/1st pressings. Often they coat/are worth less than the newer pressings but I like having a record that would've been the one on store shelves at the time it came out. Having an mint or unopened copy is even better because it's like I went back in time and got it new. There is an element of wonder there. It transports me to another time. I think the same happens for moc/mib collectors. I digress - what brings a person joy or happiness isn't dependent on the views of others. If you don't want to collect like Raymond then don't but don't tell him or anyone else how they should collect or why. It's not hard to just be cool... so just be cool.
@@StephenPike Hey, I wasn't telling Raymond how he should collect, I was just voicing my opinion that I don't understand the appeal of mint on card toys. That does not translate to "No one should be collecting that way." I do agree that the "transportation in time" thing is nice, but I also think it defeats he purpose of enjoying the toys, like if I bought a bar of chocolate and kept it sealed for all eternity, rather than eating it. *I can voice my opinion without it being an instruction to others.* Thanks.
