It’s ALIVE!!!!! Today, we resurrect my Husqvarna 450 Rancher. Yes, I have a few chainsaws, but I’ve been through it with this one. We have history together and I have missed it dearly.
The clutch drum has been destroyed since the last 50 or 60 times I threw chains doing things I probably should not be doing with a gas-powered chainsaw. It’s time to replace the clutch drum (chain driving sprocket) in Ol’ Trusty without fancy tools. I purchased the official Husqvarna replacement part online, which came with the bearing. This is a 8 minute process, if you just replace the part and do not need to clean obscene amounts of funk and gunk on your saw, as I did in this video. I spent a few extra minutes with cleaning my favorite, old, beat-up chainsaw.
I have not run this thing in months. It has been sitting, with a tank full of old fuel, and it started right up. We all have our favorite tools. They may not be the most expensive. They may not be high-tech. They may not be top-of-the-line, but they are often those with whom we have history. I bought this saw when we purchased the ranch. It has been worked harder than any other tool on this property. It is so nice to have it back, with a brand, new chain!
I hope you found value in this video. Don’t let this problem keep your favorite saw down. Changing the clutch drum on a chainsaw is a fast and easy process, even without the proper tools. Chainsaws are fairly simple tools. Repair isn't always complex.
For the record, the Stihl MS 271 Farm Boss is a pretty awesome saw. I have enjoyed it's power and durability. This is still a fairly new saw. My history and experience with the Husqvarna 450 Rancher is the primary reason for my preference.
