For the torque question on the front shocks. You can use a crows foot with a torque wrench. Its like having an open end box wrench head attached to your torque wrench. 👍👍 Great video! I just replaced my front shocks today! Gonna do the back hopefully tomorrow if it doesn't rain.
Hi Cleo! I actually just filled out the shipping label today. I will be taking it to the post office on Wednesday. Sorry for the delay in getting it out. Thank you so much for supporting my channel and buying one :) means a lot to me!
Thanks for a new greate Video! I allready have the same chocks on my 91 Corvette. I now is absolyte one of the best (mayby best) on market. Regards Jonny Finland
Great job! Just had those same bilstein shocks delivered from corvette central myself. Got a set of brakemotive rotors and pads as well to throw on at the same time. I will take you up on that key ring. Thanks
i have been watching you for about a year just on and off this is the best one so far i have a real nice 95 i am refreshing it i guess i would say have completely done the ignition system from the 02 sensors up to the top everything what a difference im /1 its a retirement project i love it BUUTTT i replaced the bilstienes with gabriel gas and cant tell any difference in the ride for the price a friend of mine just put the bilstienses not sure how spell those dang things lol on his for half the price i wonder JS keep it up man
Thanks so much, Randy. I really appreciate your comment and support. Glad you liked the video. Sorry you can’t tell a difference with your shocks. I hope you can maybe get the Bilsteins sometime!
It’s great to hear someone from a younger generation say “I’m old school”. The actuator cups that you had discarded, could you have installed those on the new shocks and plugged them in just to secure the harness on the shocks? I know it wouldn’t work, but would secure the connectors. I like the key fob and the fact that it is not metal banging against the column. Fantastic choice on the color also. As usual, great video.
Thanks a lot, I am very old school in a lot of ways, trust me. :) no, there is no way to connect them because I actually tried to do that but it wasn’t possible. Great idea, though. Thanks for buying the keytag. Means a lot to me!
@@Doulop I’m not trying to be an armchair quarterback. It looked possible from here, but I’m not the one doing it. Your welcome. I was happy to buy the fob because it wasn’t metal that could leave marks on the column. I had been looking for something like this.
Hey Doulop I just purchased a 93 40th Anniversary convertible 6 speed and have been binge watching your channel since i got the car. I'm also replacing my shocks (76k miles) with the Bilstein B 6's after lots of research. Mine has the FX3 ride control and the "service ride control" light is on but to replace the Bilstein's that are designed for that upgrade/option were over $900.00 plus having to refurbish each shock actuator was almost $150.00 each so I decided to just go with the B 6's for approximately $375.00 and I will disable the service ride control light. Can't wait for the weather to cool down so I can put the top down and enjoy the car. I appreciate all of your vids! Also, I have the same Nitto 555's and I also just ordered one of your C4 keychains from ebay.
Hey Rob, absolutely love your comment. So happy to hear you bought a C4!! Totally agree with your choice of shocks as well. It’s not worth the extra money. I appreciate you watching my videos. Means a lot to me. I like my 555’s. I hope you do too. I wish you best and I hope you love that car! Also, yes, I just got notified about the keychain. Thanks so much. I will get it out by Friday :) take care!
Hey Rob, I received your email and replied but it said the email was undeliverable. Do you know why? Can you try sending another one as a test? Sorry about that
Hey man, good job. Glad you rediscovered your car. Can I suggest a couple of things? While you had some access, it would have been a good opportunity to clean up that beautiful suspension. Then, cleaning bolts is a good idea, but wiping on some anti seize is a nice touch. You will thank yourself next time you need to work there. And, if you cut out a piece of those thick rubber mats (or a hockey puck) and put it in the cup of your jack, it will save from scratching the aluminium. Nice model C8, if you kept it in the box it won't get dusty! :-)
Thanks man! I know, the suspension needs cleaned bad. Good idea. Didn’t think about the rubber hockey puck. Good idea. Lol, I’m not one to keep things in boxes. It looks so much cooler sitting there like that. And DUST?? What dust? In my garage??? lol!!!
Way to go, sounds like great move. I didnt realize you live close to Carlisle until recently. That’s where I live, off 641. Take care and keep the great videos coming. Maybe I’ll run into ya someday, well not run into you but you know what I mean hahaha
Hahahaha!! Oh yeah, 641 is a road I travel allllll the time. What car do you have?? I’ll keep a look out for you! Thanks Bob. I’ll try not to run into you ;)
Hey from the South Carolina Coast. Great vid sir. I have an absolutely mint all original 64 Sting Ray ( 40,100 miles ) my pride and joy. We also have 2 mint C4s. Wifey has a 95 convertible with the adjustable suspension ( 38k miles ) and I have a 96 coupe with the Z51 handling package. (33k miles) The 95 needs front shocks and will be installing the Bilstiens that you installed. Zip Corvette, $112 each with free shipping. Did yours throw any codes since you did not use the original adjustable shocks ? Thanks for the install vid...
Hey, thanks for the comment! That’s awesome you have those 3 cars. Wow! Best of luck with the install. Super easy in my opinion. No, I had absolutely no codes at all. Still don’t. Thanks for asking. Have a great day!
I have a 94 Z07 I notice a pretty big difference between tour and performance on the brand new shocks I installed. All 4 of my actuators were were working and controller however.
@@Doulop id have done the same as you in your situation. I had to order the fronts 3 times and the backs twice. On top of ordering front and rear bushings from different websites. It’s definitely not an easy or cheap system to get fully working.
I've got the Z51 and I know they are supposed to be stiff so I can't tell if they are bad are not. They do make a little noise when it's cold out for a couple minutes until they get warmed up. Did yours make any noise at all when cold? EDIT : You may want to consider an alignment because believe it or not alignment is all about your suspension.
Hey, did you ever use the Adams stuff?? And, I never had noise but I did have a slight wobble and shake in the steering wheel when they were cold. That has completely went away now, finally. It always drove me nuts. Felt like a flat tire. Thanks for advise on alignment. Good idea.
Hey there, I responded to another comment of yours but maybe you didn’t see it. If you go to eBay and type in “Doulop” you will see them there :) thank you!
Hi Mario, honestly, not real sure. I do know that driving over little bumps was really loud and jerky. Still that way with the new stiff shocks but not as bad. The car had 116,000 miles so figured it was due for a change. Not really sure what the rule of thumb is to know when but I am so glad I did. Made a huge difference. Thanks for watching!
Any work that one is doing on their own personal car, especially for the first time (and with limited experience).... you don't need an air tool or electric driver. Take your time, with a hand ratchet, and do the job right. Don't be concerned about how many hours you put in. There is no substitute for "fixed right the first time'".
Hi Damon, it isn’t an easy answer but here is the video where I answer that question in depth :) thanks for watching! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tVYrAgGHcCM.html
Nice video! You did something i've been thinkin on for a while. Say, do you remember the part numbers of those shocks? On Rock auto they got the B8 and B6. B8 says with Z51 which my car has, B6 without. But neither look like the adjustable fx3 shock up on top. Any clarity on that would be appreciated! Thanks/E
Thanks Erik. I did not get the package with the Z51 because it would’ve cost me too much to get my adjustable ride control back to working. Mine didn’t currently work. You can buy the cheaper shocks and install them without connecting the adjustable ride back up and they will work just as well. My part number was 574060. Good luck man!
@@Doulop Thanks for the info! What I've learned is that the B6 and B8 are both non fx3 but the B8 is designed for the Z51 in some way. Either way those 2 options are at least half the price of FX3 shocks. I think a set of those are north of 800 dollars somewhere abouts! Too much for me and seeing as how happy you were with changing to a normal set made it an easy choice for me. So thanks again man! Great video!
@@Doulop heeeell yeah! Plus that fancy stuff is over rated, is it handles good it handles good. Got all knew urethane bushings on the way as well, should be a good ole time!
They are stiff shocks since they are made for cornering so they will never be good over bumps but the overall drive is definitely much better over most road conditions!
i have not talked t anyone or read anything that says the electric shocks make a notable differemce in the ride or the way they handle it was a good atempt by GM but was not worth it
@@Doulop just did all 4 shocks and driveshaft u-joints. Going to be dropping the batwing down and doing the bushings and half-shaft u-joints and the diff. Front end is getting new rack and pin. New ball joints and bushings replaced. I will also be getting a new clutch plate install at my 100,000 mile service. This is my fall and winter projects.
@@loxety My 95 only has 45 k on it. I can’t convince myself the factory Bilsteins are bad. I’ve been replacing bushings like a madman when I can, but I can notice a big difference in my FX3’s working in all 3 modes. I’ve heard you can send the factory shocks to bilstein for a redo? Idk.
Well, since the suspension on these kind of shocks are stiff for cornering, they are not great at bumps BUT the overall ride everywhere is much much better!
Doulop, there is a 1993 40th anniversary Corvette in ruby red near me. I have never owned a sports car so I figured a C4 might be a good place to start. It’s a 6 speed car and the interior and exterior are pretty clean. The car has 100,000 miles. Seller is asking $9,500 OBO. Is that a fair asking price?
Hey! I paid $7,900 for mine back in 2009. Had a big gash out of the hood that I had to get fixed after I bought it. Mine isn’t an anniversary car and it had 91,554 miles on it. That price doesn’t seem bad to me. Maybe offer $8,500 and see what they counter with if they even do. Best of luck! I think it would be a great car if you’ve never owned a sports car. The C4 is the generation that changed everything for the Corvettes future. Be a great car to own :)
