REPORT: Florida State Will Jump to Big 10 Within Month!

The Florida State Seminoles could bail on the ACC and join the Big 10 "within the next month," according to one weekend report. Blue Bloods Bias was the source. However, it should be noted the Florida State Board of Trustees has been discussing such a move since last summer and the Florida State President went so far as to request an ACC exit strategy by the end of the year. The Florida State football snub from the College Football Playoffs after completing an undefeated ACC Championship season only highlights the Seminoles' desire to leave the ACC. The fact remains that the school's departure from the ACC has been a financial necessity for some time. Other conferences are far more lucrative than the ACC. The Big 10 seems like the most likely destination for Florida State. Questions remain, like how soon could this happen and what other ACC school comes with them to the Big 10?
In addition to Big 10 expansion news, we visit the latest transfer portal stories around the league. And we have our Big 10 Top 10 observations from the weekend. Check it out right here on Locked on Big 10 with Craig Shemon!

@@Ed.01 Playing an entire Big 10 schedule is a completely different animal from playing one or two Big Ten teams a season. The Big Ten is a very physical conference. Even the so-called bottom feeders are physical. An entire season will take its toll - even on the top teams - especially when the weather turns cold. It's a war of attrition - and teams will need to stock up on depth to last an entire season. Much different than the wide-open ACC. Even the new additions from the Pac-12 will discover that.

This conference shifting is so out of hand. Total realignment is needed. Too many bad teams in FCS. Break it down to Four conferences by region of 24 teams each divided into two divisions each to maintain and reestablish rivalries. Each conference puts two team into the playoffs, plus four wildcards. Lower FCS schools that don’t make the 4 main conferences get a chance to move up into the big 4 each year and the worst 4 teams drop back to secondary level. No conference championship games.
@GrizrazRex
@GrizrazRex 7 месяцев назад
...OR, incorporate the P5 conference title games into the 12-team CFP. That's four of 8 slots. Plenty of room for a high-achieving ND, or non-conf-champ, as well as a G5 team or two. This may end up being the model, if the ACC can hold together. The higher probability would become a reconstituted Pac and an eastern conference analog. The ACC, B12 and rump Pac are likely to merge, or cooperate, in some fashion that would serve to create two viable power conferences with a regional orientation. As long as there is a Power 4 of some sorts, most years would be pretty easy, under my model. If we eventually have a Power 3, you just expand the wild cards or G5 champ auto-bids. Expanding the whole bracket to 16 would not be too difficult to do either, and you could start the playoffs in early December, still finishing up at the same time in January with a champion crowned. It's likely gonna go as Chip Kelly called it: A top tier of teams independent of their NCAA conferences, with a divisional structure and a commissioner to arbitrate and oversee; a no-brainer playoff selection structure the uses the least amount of subjectivity, use of the major bowls within context, and an undisputed champion left standing at the end.

@@Montfortracing So Florida State already approached JPMorgan bank to get a 120 million dollar loan to get out of the ACC. Each team in the B1G made around 40 million dollars more per team because of TV rites. They approached the bank saying basically if we enter the B1G we will have the money to pay you back, or at least that's my very minimal understanding of how that stuff works. So if Florida state does that, any team from the ACC will be able to get the same kind of cash. This is really all setting up for the B1G to get and even larger more lucrative TV deal by adding teams that have large TV markets. I think the biggest hurdle is making sure they have B1G membership waiting for them so that they can make the deal with the bank.

FSU and TAMU to the B1G would conveniently give the conference a foothold in two huge recruiting states, and create a single opening in the SEC...unless the rest of that conference took the opportunity to relegate Vandy. That's the next round, and why we need what Harbaugh and Kelly have been proposing; a structure away from the NCAA with a commish in control. ESPN will start forcing the lower echelon teams out of conferences. Really, the best thing to happen to CFB just might be Disney insolvency, since it would force a lot of contracts to be re-thought and re-done, and could possibly serve to save the sport from going off the deep end as NFL Lite.

Miami might seem weird at first but there is more interest in Florida vs Miami. Like it was before the Florida St started football. But personally as a SEC fan. I think the big 10 fits would be. Florida State, North Carolina, Miami and Georgia Tech. Florida State is the only one without AAU membership. Miami, Charlotte, and Atlanta have huge metropolitan areas and get you into Georgia and Florida. Virginia would be my placeholder. Virginia is a weaker football brand then North Carolina and they using Maryland as there Baltimore/DC connection. North Carolina is a blue blood in multiple sports and grant a connections to Charlotte.

I’m still sentimental about the ACC. 3 national championships over the last decade, and could have had a fourth. It doesn’t sound like a sinking conference, except for the money issue. Which, again, is strange considering all the schools with big (or old) money, like the basketball schools unc, duke, Virginia (kinda), and notre dame bb. It’s clear football drives the bus when these schools take a back seat to anyone. Im an FSU alum and I love the noles, but it’s shocking to me that we want to run away from those traditional, good schools into the cold weather and travel more. I get that it’s about survival, though, and who knows what everything looks like in a decade anyway?

I'm a North Carolina fan and I would like to see the top 80 football programs join 5 conferences that make geographic sense. Leave the existing conference structure alone for all other sports, if it's possible to unwind some of what has happened. In reality only football cares about the BCS and how the play in would work into that. I watched the ACC add Stanford, Cal and SMU, that makes no sense for all the other sports. Football with only a dozen games with 5 or 6 away games can absorb the travel. Non revenue sports can't

Rutgers NYC/NJ, Maryland Balitomore-DC to UNC to Florida on the East Coast - the original B1G thru the Midwest - then Washington and Oregon. I would rather have an Arizona School. Every major media market is represented with the next two, outside of Atlanta and Austin. Two Flordia schools? Humm, Miami would be nice too, but NC Chapel Hill is second to Duke in Academic reputation. Both Miami and UNC are private public schools. That is a difference between Michigan or Ohio State being actual State Schools. The library of NCAA cases involving Miami and UNC in the hands of the B1G Conference could make us untouchable;)

This is where FSU signaling they're willing to go at it alone and several other ACC teams talking to the the Big XII, makes all this more likely now.
