I learned to drive a tractor when I was 10. Happens it was a 1949 8n. I was born in 1947. It was like new when I was learning to drive it.. Enjoying this rebuild. Regards, Solomon
Can't belief I'm enjoying watching a man driving down the road signing some old country. Love your vids, the content and your sense of humour. Keep it up and your channel will grow.
The number one reason FORD sold so many 2N & 8N tractors was THE 3 point hitch and the fact they were low to the ground (hard to roll over) And women loved the features of these tractors..........
Looking forward to the rebuild videos! Good to see the old iron brought back to life! I grew up on Two Cylinders, but Granddad had an N series, I'm thinking 8N!
I recently purchased a Ford 14-92 sickle mower to use with my 8N. I had to modify the pto shaft to fit, but it works great. Good luck on the restoration.
This is coming from a 13 year old, that old country is the best music that there ever has been or ever will be and none of the new stuff comes close to it. I listen mostly to Alabama, Alan Jackson, and George Strait
I was Raised on a '49 8N Ford Tractor....As Long as you kept the Distributor Dry it would run...there Was a Spray can Stuff that My Daddy used to Spray in it that Worked well...But too In the Winter We Garaged it and It Did well that way.!!!
IM guessing you got 6.5 on the trip back home. Looks like it was a good trip. Hope you make it over my way next time it would be nice to meet you and buy you lunch.
Easy fix for the side-link adjustment. Put a hydraulic top link and side link on the three-point system. I have that setup on my tractor and can adjust the top-link and side link from the driver's seat. You need the two hydraulic cylinders, two more valve bodies, a diverter solenoid on the valve block, a solenoid switch plus four more rear hydraulic service outlets (two for flow out / two for flow in). If you use the top link and side link for implement adjustments, it's an invaluable setup. I use the adjustments for box blade, rear blade, and grading plane.
+Buckhorn Cortez I agree with you. I had hydraulic top and tilt on the 5320. I just think the gearbox would be a nice factory setup, especially for smaller tractors.
I woulddn t quit my day job but it was mighty enjoyable... miles to go... makes me think of marty robbins an " Its only a hundred yards to mary anns" I remember the first time I heard it... I balled like a baby cause I could hear the wind blow and had been fixed in a bad spot a few years before with my pack string an I lost a horse in the cold but would of lost them all had I not pushed through into a box canyon... I heard from the forest service in a week that we had hit one of the most deadly storms that came out of the north east just plumb out of no where with no warning but I saw the lightning flash off in the distance so kicked my packs and ran the horses til I had to walk them. People figured that I was dead, I was busy burying my horse which had me in a bad way
Actually there is a parking brake ratchet tooth set on both sides of the brake lever arms that once you step down on the brake pedal allow you to pull the tooth rack up to engage the bracket so that when you let up on the pedal engages the rack teeth.
I'm sure youve said but what area of tn were you in not to be too personal and how many miles does your truck have on it. I lived in Springfield mo for a while i loved it there.
Enjoyed taking the trip with you. Enjoy your restoration project as I know you will,. I love old tractors myself and the.8N's red bellys are my favorite. I also enjoyed your music!!!!
Good luck with the 8N! When I was young in 1957 to 1960 my parents had an 8N. I remember my father complaining about the ford more than the allis charmers WD. The complaint was that it needed an overhaul every year. They used it to plow fields with a 2 bottom plow and other things to grow corn. So, I guess if you only use it for low strain work, it might be ok for that. Best Wishes!
I think that you will still average around the 7 MPG that you got on the way down. Seems like most trucks, have a towing average and it really doesn't change if you change the weight that you are towing.
i am in UK and I have a9n imported from Canada some years ago and it needs restoring it has a howard reduction unit and Sherman high/low .. is that rare? it needs a new fuel tank and I have decided to make one from stainless steel
The Sherman transmission is a little uncommon, and if yours is the up/direct/down then it’s rarer than the direct/ up transmission. The direct/ down is the rarest but they can be found.
You can't adjust em from the seat anymore, because in them adjust from seat days, ye fell off while doing the adjustin with the tractor movin, and it got fugly from that point on.

+Longford lad I actually have one but don't use it. I've tried it a couple of times and the video is always pretty jerky and unstable. I'd like to try a chest mount though.
My father bought my Great Grandfathers old 8N for $500. Needed a new tire, brakes leaked, generator never worked on it. But it was a great utility tractor. Learned how to drive on that old gray thing. BTW, looks like somebody had another small Ford tractor under a tarp in yer vid?
