Restoring an antique bike - we first took this late `20`s English 3 speed race bike a few months ago and it proved to be just plain dangerous... Now we pull it apart, fit some working breaks, sort the bottom bracket, cranks and 3 speed hub then brave another ride...
Weighing in at 12.2 kilo the easier gearing and improved tyres transformed the way it rides and it did`nt try and throw me off this time!

Oh gosh, a lot of work Dan. And it’s hard to like that original cycling kit! I’m not sure I’m an Eroica fan. But I can see from vids that the atmosphere is really friendly and everyone enjoys these tributes to the ‘heroes’ who paved the way for the beautiful bikes, fabulous kit, and incredibly talented riders of today.

I used to hate putting in new cotter pins. They never fitted properly without filing them down in various places.

Cotter pins.... nothing good to say about them - I`ve fitted new ones of the correct size but they feel a bit soft... Dan

Very enjoyable video. Having ridden l'Eroica twice myself (medium distance only!), respect to anyone planning to do it on a 12 kg three speed bike!

Hey Dan nice video! You mentioned the frame was Reynolds 531 , just out of curiosity would that be straight gauge or double butted? Looking forward to your next video,as usual .All the best!

Pretty sure its the early straight gauge, Dan

I think you will find that Reynolds started producing 531 tubing in 1935, so your bike may be high manganese tubing, but if it is a 1920's frame it will not be 531.

Yep, you are correct - I got a mixed up - pretty sure its Reynolds straight gauge not 531 - though on the steerer tube as well as the bars I found a small A & P mark and they made tube sets so it might be made of theirs, Dan
