I've got some big news! Capac's going to Japan on holidays which means AA will be taking a short break. Next week's episode will be the last for April and we'll return in May 🙂 In the break I'll be continuing with scrapyard as well as trying to get more tutorial content out. I can relate to: (a) TFE's apparent post-cryosleep grogginess, wandering around the new landing pad floor wondering where he was up to in the build - "where was I up to? what did I plan to do next?" (b) Splitsie losing the plot, in hysterics at Capac's repeated welder deaths - Flashbacks to Escape from Mars, there! 😂

Lol.. Tbh.. HAL as Ai probably makes most sense, as the Skywarp seems to be haunted still. I would love to see a scene with Capac trying to open a door and the AI responds: "I'm Sorry Capac, I'm Afraid I Can't Do That" 😂

Thought I'd enlighten on the clay question. Clay is a particle size, and clay sizes in geology can be of any platey mineral. When they are dry they can stick together really well, so are hard to move, but water lubricates them and lets them slide past each other. Clay grains are normally about a micron or less in size, and can be formed in any environment. In meteorites there are clay-like minerals that form agglomerations and inclusions that represent some of the oldest materials we can sample, essentially from the dust cloud that formed the Sun and our planets. There is your science moment today :)

Splitsie, can I suggest the following for the mother ship: 1. A "Nature Room" with aquariums, planters and perhaps screens with nature images. 2. Sprinkle a few survival kits and/or chairs for convenience 3. Some cool landing legs, and maybe a ramp

capac has two modes: one is the mode of out-of-nowhere head turning and omega surprising competence and the other mode is the redefinition of incompetence. this man is truly astounding.

The research points panels tend to be near things that go boom. So capturing ships as intake as possible is well nearly impossible. Capac is like a moth flying at a flame. From eels to owls what a thought process in Capac's mind. Also the guy in the tiny fish looked like Capac until I realized I was watching Capac's camera.

Good luck to Capac in Japan! Great episode! A few ideas for Skywarp, however 1. The lower area is perfect for a utility hangar, like you said. 2. The middle area is perfect for a autocrafting screen-area(cant remember the fancy word) 3. There is actually a good amount of space in the roff of the ship, which could maybe be for something like a greenhouse(without the glass) or a movie theater 4. Ever since you upgraded some of the systems on the Rumble(remote control), I have implemented them into almost everything I build. I speak from Experience when I say, that Skywarp should have an option to be Remote controlled, for the exact same reason the Rumble can; Survivabilty.

Splitsie i just had a brilliant idea for a ship for capac, because he tends to ram things, build him a heavy armor ball and add a artillery turret on it. He either blows whatever is in his way before he hits it or the heavy armor does its job 😂😂😂

A mod i'd recommend for your grinding/welding would be Laser Multi-tools. it adds a small and large-grid laser multitool that can grind, weld, and drill all without knocking stuff to space

There are many phyllosilicates. Muskovites and biotites are aluminosilicates that are igneous in origin, but water and earthlike surface conditions are generally required for them to be reconstituted into illites or hydromicas, which are of course more stable in those same conditions. Consequently, the latter tend to predominate in sedimentary samples.

One of the original thoughts of the 'modules' in Skywarp was a piston elevator bay linked to a parking spot for rovers. But the skywarp does not look like it could lift trough planetary gravity, so landing is not an option. Perhaps a bay holding a larger rover/tank transport vehicle may be a better idea. An alternative if space allows, could be a bay holding a deployable FOB (forward operations base) maybe 2-4 modules that can leave trough the bottom, land planet-side and merge block into a single larger, pre-equiped base (not nesesarily in that order). Maybe with a few small drones, a rover and a planetary escape shuttle, plus supplies. If it cant be big enough to fit the vehicles pre-assembled, a welding bay could sort that once the base is deployed. Then comes the complicated part. Finding an excuse to use it.

Asteroids have fine particles too, but they're created differently - numerous small impacts pulverizing the surface rather than erosion by water. Some asteroids also have ice or hydrous minerals, so they can have stuff *similar* to clay. Those particles are also very sharp, unlike on Earth, so they do have different properties (it makes extremely hard to clean dust for one), and is really bad for your lungs, similar to asbestos

Phew, this was a LONG series so far, but I'm finally here. In this time I went from the basic "basic refinery and basic assembler base and hand drilling" to "small miner, bigger miner, and then long distance asteroid miner", and built a bigger base that is doing absolutely excessive excavation and stone refining for the heck of it, with over a thousand tons of iron just from the stone, and I'm not even halfway to the platinum or through the nickel deposit. Then there is the prospect of a relatively small cargo jump ship that sits in lunar orbit, a miner that detaches from it, and finally a large battleship that will be built on the bigger base. Much fun and I havent even tried any combat yet.

Someone may have confirmed your vague geology recollections, but yes clay is typically derived from eroded stone. Like what happens in river systems.

About the clay discussion at about 22:20 I’m actually studying geology so I think I could provide some insight. You’re right that clay particles are a sediment. Particles (or clasts as they’re more properly referred to) that are considered clay are pretty much invisible to a naked eye and would require a magnification tool to see the individual clasts. Because of this rocks formed from clay like mudstone and shale are really smooth compared to siltstone and sandstone which have coarser clasts. In order to make clay you require atmospheric conditions that would support liquid water and I think at that point it wouldn’t be considered an asteroid if it had enough mass to do that. There is asteroids formed from the earliest periods of the solar system made from accumulation of dust, but that dust isn’t the same as clay. Any clay that would be ejected from a planet from a collision would also likely be completely destroyed. An asteroid containing clay is pretty much impossible from what I’ve gathered.

I think an AI for 790 from the old tv show Lexx would be fitting for this crew. Just have it fixated on Capac... You could even have it be the interpreter for what the various Capac bodily noises mean.

Idk is anyone’s said it, but for docking the carrier you could merge block it to the base, that’d allow you to hard dock with no alignment or rotation issues for the freight elevator, a backup power supply for the base, and easy(er) cargo transfer. Just a thought.

Gamma is equivalent to a G although a lowercase gamma (γ) kinda looks like a Y (or a sideways alpha if it's the script version). An upsilon (Υ, υ) literally is a y, though the lowercase looks like a U and it makes a similar sound. In fact, it is the reason why Y (see what I did there?) is called a "Greek Y" in French and Spanish and has a U sound in German.

As a geologist it was a bit painful listening to you talk about clay (sedimentary). Clay comes from the breakdown of minerals such as feldspar that makes up rocks such as granite (igneous). Water breaks the feldspars down into clay particles which are carried into seas and oceans. They're finally deposited when the energy in the water is low enough, >80/90m water depth, so they fall out of suspension and settle on the seabed then over time with accumilation the clay layers will form. Then with relatively gentle overburden pressure, shale/mudstone and with more pressure and some heat you'll end up with slate (metamorphic). Anyhow another fun episode with some good interior design and building and if you need a space geologist for planetary surveys you know where I am!

You guys would have sympathetic backstories if you weren't here to do the space equivalent of building a hot rod, and were only stealing from the ASSERT organization rather than also harming the people they try to protect. I'm pretty sure the Demios crew has a more sympathetic backstory about losing their sister ship than you guys do. 24:11 Looking at this in terms of location and available space, this would be a perfect additional hangar for more utility ships or even a larger type of fighter, since it has direct access to the big door on the bottom. Or it could be that rover storage you guys were going on about when you first built the Skywarp, when it was still mostly hollow and was vaguely intended to be atmosphere-capable - or make some orbit-to-atmosphere capable ships since rovers probably aren't viable. No reason your big supercarrier's reach should be restricted to space. At the very least an observation window into the hangar (maybe with some armor between it and the reactors themselves, just in case of any Capac misfires or real bold enemy fighters) would look cool. I think a Jugg-sized small grid fighter, or gunship really, might be a decent option, having just the one to park beside the Jugg itself and a little dedicated welder wall built into its dock (or perhaps relying on the Marlin's). You do have space in the width of the ship to park two Juggs side by side, after all. Capac's shuttlecraft idea would be maybe more practical. Similarly available spaces for more utility hangars connecting to that hangar-dome-junction thing are available where the missile bays were once intended to be (where your sideways medbay is), as there's a decent amount of space there as well as those extra doors that have always been kind of planned but never fully used or connected to a proper hangar because of the printer's location. Given the printer bay is mainly intended for quick repairs and replacements of the actual fighter craft, it makes sense for the utility ships to just have a separate hangar before it in such a way while still directly connecting outside like the fighters' do, even if the doors are left closed most of the time so they don't get shot up. That would be an excellent spot for the Blob and the Green Menace, leaving the larger hangar at the bottom for the Jugg and a similar craft, since if they reverse in than the tight squeeze shouldn't be that big an issue. 35:08 I think he was reading 'toggle block on' and 'toggle block off' rather than talking about the locking action. ASSERT has absolutely _had_ it with you guys, it seems. Three Fite Brites just for a single moderately armed ship? Those things probably had more combined mass than the Voyager does. Are there any other large grid drones that can be called in, or is it just that one? It is a neat dynamic that the current spawnset has what's basically their super-drone to fall back on, but it'd be interesting to see another variant.
