Black Ops 3 and 4 are probably the games with the largest Zombies budget, so it comes as no surprise that there are very few reused maps. But there are a couple things worth mentioning. Twitter: / thegodzilla150
I remember Treyarch said when making Revelations, they ported the old maps and remastered them. Kinda like putting on a fresh new coat of paint. Then they broke the maps down and decided which pieces to put in Revelations. So the Chronicles maps were technically made before Revelations was
Chronicles maps are not ported, they are made from the ground up. It is possible they ported the geo to keep accuracy to the originals, but many many parts of the maps are completely new or detailed differently to indicate they were made from the ground up (there is definitely a chance the models were upscaled in terms of ploys and texture quality, but there are too many inconsistencies where you can't just blanket term that they ported it). In regards to what maps could've been in Bo3, there was definitely a possibility for MoTD given all the assets they made for the Revelations sections, but more interesting is that CoTD was going to most likely show up in Bo3. This is due to the fact that when you rip models and assets from Tag Der Toten, a lot use the T7 prefix instead of the T8 prefix (which is the codename for Treyarch 7, i.e., Black Ops 3). So we can assume that CoTD was originally planned to show up in Bo3 at one point, which leads me to believe a lot of the maps in Bo4 and the assumed Chronicles 2 were going to be on Bo3 but either got shifted to Bo4 or canned.
Something not mentioned is that the Revelations intro has two reused assets. The "Perfect World" is the skybox from the Raid remake Empire in MP, and Maxis is a modified version of the male protagonist from campaign.
A little fun fact about the Alpha Omega map it’s test site B from the original Nuketown. The reason it looks similar but wildly different is that it’s based on a remake of a remake in lore. It’s complicated to break down. But the Nuketown island in blackout is based on the second test site as well. That’s why there are major modifications to it. I think it was also eluded too in one of the versions of Nuketown. The reason they all look the same is because it’s the same layout just put in different spots but with each having its modification to it. Also in BO1, you can actually see the Test Site B way off in the distance, but at the time it was just considered a funny little Easter Egg until they gave it lore. Then in another Black Ops game you can actually the original Nuketown from BO1 was destroyed completely cause it’s just a big crater now.
I found your channel randomly looking for zombies videos to watch, and listening to you talk about the ins and outs of these maps was super educational video game wise. This channel definitely deserves more attention.
General assets and concepts were reused more in BO3 from Multiplayer Annihilator was literally ported into The Giant The Tempest acts like the Wunderwaffe Ragnorok-DG4s are literally Gravity Spikes Gauntlet Of Siegfried has Whelp, who burns zombies with fire, like the Purifier, and the 115 Punch, like the dash that the Ripper does And of course the antigravity in DE and Revelations mimics the jetpacks
That last point might actually explain why low gravity in Eisendrache, Revelations, and Moon doesn't seem to apply to grenades in BO3, unlike in BO1. Maybe they actually modified how the physics engine worked in BO1 Moon for low gravity environments, while in BO3, the zombies switch to their low gravity animations from Moon but the player is just given the jump jet from the campaign (and the ability to double jump and boost in Eisendrache and Revelations).
Found your channel a couple weeks ago and have been watching through your entire catalog, love the content! Your narration, editing, & style of videos are excellent. Keep it up!
*Different unique sound effects reused in other games!* I know this would be a tricky series to get started, but how about reused sound effects in different games? I don’t mean generic stuff like rebuilding barriers or buying doors for example, but things that are more unique. A few examples would be like: - throwing a Time Bomb in Buried & using the Killing Time GobbleGum in BO3 - correctly inputting the Mahjong tile code to finish the Die Rise Easter egg/completing the first step of upgrading a staff in Origins (BO2) & turning on the power in Ascension (BO1) - exploded shot of upgraded Scavenger sniper in COTD & Subsurface Resonator blast in Buried - going back in time w/Der Eisendrache Easter egg & using Time Bomb in Buried - the “ding” noise from the crystal step in Shangri-La Easter egg & the noise from turning an orb white w/Paralyzer for the Buried Easter egg & the “ding” noise from the low gravity about to deactivate in the Undercroft room in Der Eisendrache room - teleporting animation in Der Riese & entering a portal animation in Origins (BO2) & teleporting animation in Kino Der Toten (BO1 and ZC) - respawning after you die/bleed out with Who’s Who in Die Rise & the spawning sound effect in Shangri-La (BO1) - Lightning staff being fired in Origins & lightning striking the challenge podium in Zetsubou No Shima (for shield upgrade) - turning on the “electricity” in Verruckt & turning on the power in The Giant (not the same in Der Riese) - the carnival sound effect for completing the Buried Easter egg & the sound effect for finding the last telephone for the hidden song on FIVE (right before “Won’t Back Down” plays) - the whirring noise (following directly after the “ding” from the low gravity about to turn off in Der Eisendrache & the whirring noise that is heard from Dr. Monty killing Dr. Maxis in the Alpha Omega ending cutscene - traveling up the gravity well/using a Wundersphere in Der Eisendrache & getting propelled from a launchpad in the Bio Dome on Moon - the sound of George A Romero spawning in COTD & killing Brutus in MOTD/BOTD - (occasionally) using the Fire bow in Origins & (occasionally) using the Wrath of the Ancients in Der Eisendrache - multiple sound effects from feeding the dog heads in MOTD & feeding the dragon heads in Der Eisendrache I know some of these are *very* obscure, but there’s 15 solid examples! Are you up to try it out? 😉
and yes, I had to think really hard for some examples to throw at you 😅 but playing the game normally will trigger you to just think “hey I heard this sound effect before in another Zombies title”
I know that the shadows of evil bug round noise is replicated in IX when a max ammo round happens while you are in the catacombs. That is a very obscure one.
The nikolai fight in GK is also from Demon Within 1:19 it's actually the other way around, Zombies Chronicles was being worked on during the Black Ops 3 DLC cycle, and they used parts of the remasters for Revelations. Blundell even teased the release date for ZC when Revelations dropped, saying the map would last "18 months" Would love to see this type of video with a broader scope too! All the WAW maps are taken from that games campaign, Five is taken from a playable cutscene in campaign as well as the mission "Rebirth Island" (which also appears in Warzone). Moon takes from Vorkuta and Ascension is heavily based on Executive Order. In BO3 there's a lot of reuses in the weapons and enemies, like the Rags are the Gravity Spikes from MP, the meatballs from SOE are RAPS from MP (which are also used in the GK boss). The bugs in SOE/Rev are a reskin of the drones from campaign.
I've been looking forward to this video since the last one dropped. Just recently found your channel, and it's a blast to listen to you talk about this stuff, and things like the Sarah and giant monster videos are so refreshing in the community - it's incredibly fun. Thanks for the great content, you've got a great voice and know how to carry yourself very well.
Der eisendrache uses a lot of the textures from the infection map and it's related missions. Im not sure how many direct models were ported but this was definitely done to save time.
This series is great! Hopefully you’ll do it for Extinction, Exo, Infinite Warfare, WWII, Cold War & (yes), even Vanguard. (If you would be interested of course.)
I’ll do Cold War next, and maybe Vanguard whenever I get the game. But as for the other games, I’m not aware of any reused maps. If there are some, I could do a season 2 lol
@@theGODZILLA150 well shockingly, rave in the redwoods’ spawn cabin is ported from the cod ghost either campaign or the halloween map that dropped in ghosts
@@theGODZILLA150 Cold War would be fun as they reused alot but they also look alot different, and I remember people's complaints of reusing in cold war which I dont think was really a issue.
I would like to point out that name and texture files for both alpha omega and tag der toten were in bo4's code from day one, meaning its possible nuketown island and tge lighthouse were actually being reused for blackout as a way to forshadow both maps in advance
Idk if you've done this yet, but it would be cool if you did a similar style to compare the various remakes of zombies maps across games. I mean, nacht has like 10 different interations at this point, zombie chronicles remakes, blood of the dead, and even the blackout areas that use zombies content. By the way, Infinite Warfare - Beast From Beyond's ship interior is pretty much a total copy paste from the Olympus Mons interior from the campaign. I'm not sure what else could be ripped from the campaign. Also comparing campaign missions to multiplayer maps is an option too. Just a few ideas because I love the way you show the exact areas in comparisons with the same camera angle.
Are you interested in doing multiplayer map versions of these for each individual game? That could be a great direction to branch off to once you’re done with Cold War, of course if that’s what you want to make.
Its not big but in Nikolai’s character trailer for bo 3 you can see his house briefly in the background. It has a record player and such in one of the rooms. This house was directly from the campaign. Not sure what the mission was titled though but its the same mission you fight zombies in.
I’m thinking the reason for the beam difference and things like that in Blood of the Dead is because that’s when the time splits off, which would start changing things maybe? I’ve never noticed it till you show it and it frustrates me looking at it lol
I came from searching "are BO3 maps simulations?". I know the campaign, but that can't be blindly applied to multiplier, which does have great potential for zombies theories which is something I'd die to know. Some are too cartoonish like the picnic table, while "Infection" is set in the middle of space, yet has France's flag, meaning the original land was from earth but whatever happened made is pop to another universe or split or whatever. I know the multi maps aren't supposed to be realistic (as in make sense as in the chinese toen where you fall to death), but you get what I mean. The middle of space location made me think maybe it's a simulation. If so, the houses being parallel to playable map, and the obvious similarity to the "Life" mission where it's just in your head, added to the Revelation's house and obvious church presence, make it all more reasonable to think multi maps, hence details like the dragon castle map, zombie references more than mere easter eggs. BTW, the multi-zombie relevance isn't news; the reaper, the robot robot not the cybirg ones, has 115 in its description in plain sight as it runs on its energy, so I'm not genius for pointing that out.
The maps were not made from revelations. A developer I believe (not 100% sure where the source was but I remember it being 100% factual) when making Black Ops 3, they tested the new engine by remastering Nacht and a couple other easy to make maps just to get the feel of the new engine so they could make Shadows Of Evil.
I think the giant deserved a mention it’s obviously reused just reskinned with so modifying features like perk machine mechanics and wall buys and gobble gum
it always interested me how obsessed this community gets about reused assets i don't know of any other group outside of zombies players that do this. Interesting video regardless
This is why everything felt fresh cause they didn’t reuse assets. They need to go back to doing this. I would rather pay for DLCs then get a free reused map from the campaign/multiplayer
wait wtf I'm confused on what you are comparing der eisendrache, it seems like the same zombie map, just over time it changed, you aren't showing a multiplayer equivalent of the map... dude I'm so pissed I could be watching netflix now but some dumbass in our family locked my moms amazon account with a purchase of wigs with a no balance card
