I'm a previous truck camper owner. Ram 3500 with a 3000 Big Foot camper. Without the extra height of a flat bed and super single tires I needed the extra extensions to the camper Jack's to lift it high enough for the 3500 bed. I have a couple of observations you may have already solved. 1. Your tiedowns are dependent on the tiedowns on the flatbed, they will probably need to be beefed up. My Big Foot was very heavy and the Host Mamouth is even heavier. 2. Overall height on my Big Foot was right at 13-6. Using a flatbed plus the super singles may be pushing your height beyond 13-6 if you also have a tall AC unit. Lee

You are doing great man, never feel rushed with the loading or unloading of that precious cargo of yours, if it feels weird or unsafe just stop, chill and start again or as you've said wait for the right conditions, also never feel ashamed to ask for more assistance in order to have another point of view of things as your wife might miss something. keep doing it at home in a safe environment until you get the hand of it.

Well, I stated that it’s a sweet Rig! I think having the larger tires and having the truck lifted will be so beneficial when driving on non paved surfaces. Can’t wait to see your next video!

Nice rig! Just a friendly suggestion for ya, put all of the slides in before raising the camper. It’ll be more stable and safer that way. Have a good one 👍

Good looking setup, for the tie downs holding the camper you might want to move the front attachment point rearward on the truck as the camper can still shift forward if you brake real hard.

We highly recommend having a fabricator make brackets that you can drop in on the flatbed camper interior sides. Your truck camper will move (slide) on the bed side to side. You need a bracket/brace to prevent that. Glad you are aware of your center of gravity. Be aware that you also have a very high center of gravity, so watch those turns. Go slow. I have seen three rigs just like yours .... flipped on their side, overturned. You may also want to consider looking at a supplier, Panther RV Products, who carry a complete line of parts. We see you have Rieco Titan jacks. We have the Happijac model and use a bolt on Jack Extenders 6" Lift bracket to get that extra lift. You may find the same type for your Rieco Titan bottom of leg extensions. They also have better Swing Out Camper Jack Extension Bracket for your front jacks. We also made our own 4x4 rig, a chassis truck, a modified Knapheide service body box on the back, and the truck camper mounted on the box. We have to raise up the camper as high as you and it is an adrenalin experience. Enjoy the experience and watch that high center of gravity. Safe Travels and Happy Trails.

Love the host mammoth camper. Can’t find any for sale up here in Canada. I looked at the Eagle cap 1200 but it’s even heavier than the mammoth.
@KruseandViews
@KruseandViews 3 года назад
Hey there, thank you for watching. Yes it's very hard to acquire a HOST in Canada so you may need to drive into the States to buy one. Yes the Eagle Cap's are very heavy because they are a little wider and has different insulation. I think the HOST nailed it with the Mammoth.

Remove those silly rubber stops in front. I mounted a "camper stop" out of angle iron and a 50" 2x4. Bring the camper right up to the stop and lower it. Period. Camper can't slide forward AND you get the camper 3 inches further onto the truck. Less hanging off. Check your camper to make sure you CAN go in 3 more inches and that it won't hit any of the plumbing.

Love the Truck & Love the Host Mammoth- individually. But, together? Not so much. I can't remember the last video that made me as nervous. I was thinking its a 2 story building- Thank God you don't do it on a windy day! We are searching for the perfect Host Cascade (no chillen anymore- all growed up) but- what a nerve wracking load! I think we'll go with a regular height bed, OK? Would love to chat about the truck & changes (single wheel & aluminum bed choice...) but when loaded, I bet its solid. The fastguns are NOT locked to the framerails- does that keep you up at night? I'm not a welder (and don't play one on TV either) but, I would consider drilling a hole? Or paying a professional to weld in something that would allow for rigid fixation to eliminate shifting in wind or under hard stops, emergency maneuvers...Love the thick rubber mat for consistent contact and hopefully there is enough give to reduce the possible rocking motion fore & aft of the cabover portion. Long post (sorry!) but lots of thoughts... See you in the halls.

Haha!! Yes, you are right about all of this! Believe me this build isn't for everyone and I totally get that. At times I wonder if I should have even done it but you know we love it with all the quirks and differences. I really appreciate you watching and writing!!

Nice job, Nate! On the required jack height- does it remain consistent? If so, maybe you could make a little mark on the jack indicating which hole to stop at?

Great to see gas motors. I didn’t even know Dodge made a high output Hemi. How does the Hemi handle that payload going up some steep grades on the highway or high altitude? Could you pull a small trailer w/a razor with your truck camper as well? Great videos.
@KruseandViews
@KruseandViews 3 года назад
Arod, thanks for watching and the great questions. Yes, its rare to find the HEMI High Output engine in the 5500 platform. I haven't had any issues going up the massive grades and mountain passes in Utah so far. Yes, the camper hangover doesn't sit low on the truck and the rear hitch is wide open to pull anything you want.

Watch that last step coming out of the camper it's a doozy great video thanks for sharing did your cargo capacity change with the super singles?
@KruseandViews
@KruseandViews 3 года назад
HAHA! Thanks my friend. I have a 2nd ladder for help! The Super Singles give me up to 14,000 LBS of land capacity which is 3,000 More LBS than having the duallys on but my payload is at 11,000K so I'll never reach that much but it does give me more theoretically.

Have you been off road much with that set up? Does the camper stay put or shif around at all? Additional securing required if so? I have a f 550 with a flat deck. So wondering for real. Ian.

Why wouldn't you unload the box and spare and load the camper full forward? I get it that you want a spare and a box; be it a spare tank or extra truck/camper stuff, it seems like the camper would ride better loaded fully forward. Just my thoughts. I'd get a front bumper spare mount and put the spare out there old school style. Thanks for sharing.

Is this the best truck camper fotr full time living? Do you know aboat some other mentionable examples? Why to choose a truck camper like this over a chassis cab truck that has been made into a motorhome, named a c class eh. Thanks in advance, if can help.:D

@@KruseandViews Thanks. Ddo you know Ujoint? They convert class c-s for off road use. It is good if you don-1t have a lot of low hanging brances, where you go off road, and you can take your home off orad more csecurely, becuase it's in one chassey, the pickup camer is maybe a goog option if you already had a picku, and you really use it regulary for moving things? Thanks in advance? I haven't had a pickup yet, and furnitures and lighter stufff like that i could already put in a smaller class c, and park it in front of the store. Just would be curious about advantages, hard to decide.:D

I have been a TC guy for years and currently run 19.5s on my Ram 3500 SRW but have heard great things about Buckstop Super Singles. I do think you might rethink your tie downs. I have always been told the tie downs should pull against each other. Your tie downs are both pulling your camper forward and it will eventually shift in that direction allowing the camper to move in all directions and will end up hitting your auxiliary gas tank. I like the 9'6" bed but giving up the front 1'6" makes me wonder where the COG sits? I am surprised that Host doesn't mark it on the side. I disagree with the need for the camper to fit snugly against conventional bed or side boxes, it should ride just fine when tied in properly. Just me 2 cents, now get out and enjoy that sweet ride

Looks like he's got a rubber mat which would prevent sliding forward, an unexpected bump in the road could cause a shift though. It's happened to me.
