Whoever said he was underrated? Never heard that one in my lifetime. The only thing I’ve ever heard of Rick rude and watched myself was he’s one of the greats the end.
Rude was a super-heel, he connected with the audience was a real life tough guy & a former arm-wrestling world champion he deserved to beat ultimate warrior for the championship (even just for a caretaker reign). He along with Brian Pillman are the greatest losses of the Attitude era, if he were to enter WWE now instead of 1987 he would be a headliner & world champion for sure. RIP Richard Rood!
-"Feeling Good, and Looking Better. I make a burlap sack look like a cashmere sweater." The best "Heel" line ever. Rude was one of the best workers ever. He was the man, and could have taught the new "Heels" how to work. He will be missed.
I know he's probably more well known for his WWF run, but personally I think Rude was used best in WCW, where he was given a lengthy run with the US Title as well as holding the Big Gold Belt (it was called the WCW "International" Title as they had two World Championship at the time, Vader probably had the longest reign with the other WCW Title, the one they used when Flair took the Big Gold Belt to the WWF) for a while.
Man, what a great time this was for wrestling. They all seemed like they were superheroes and supervillans back then. And it's so cool that Arsenio played along. Plus those tights at the end, lol!
What a shame he left us so young. Rick was so beautiful and a gentlemen from what I've heard. That tough persona was all an act. He was definitely all man. R.I.P. beautiful prince.
Love these classic clips with old school WWF wrestlers! Grew up watching wrestling in the late 80s early 90s. It's still my favorite era, even more so than the attitude era.
This was back in the day when wrestlers rarely, if ever came out of character. I remember seeing Rude walking through O'hare in Chicago with Jim " The Anvil" and WWF "manager" Slick. You could feel his arrogance and confidence from six feet away. He was larger than life and a great performer. RIP.
you can tell the popularity of the wrestling eras by this example (mid 80's to late 80's and late 90's ) . Alot of the media outside of the pro wrestling world had wrestlers as guests on their shows
No doubt! I have an aunt who dated Butch Reed once upon a time. I was like 7 at the time and I used to get to sneak backstage. Saw Sting, Ric Flair, Lex Luger, and I swear whenever fans came around they went right back into character. Or if you were at the airport or something, you never saw heels and faces mingling.
RIP Ravishing Rick Rude. 80s wrestlers were the greatest. We took them for granted, but they all had charisma. It takes the current generation for us to appreciate old school wrestlers.
i remember this episode...classic!! this was when wrestling was good, before it got commercialized. wrestler's now show their human side, thus further confirming that wrestling is fake. back then, the wrestler's were in character whenever the camera was on, didn't matter where, that's what made it somewhat believable.
Ravishing Rick Rude was one of many great wrestlers that came from Robbinsdale, Minnesota. Kurt " Mr. Perfect" Hennig (who my mom used to babysit) was another.
To Branch Tana-I TOTALLY AGREE!!! Bad guy or not, Rick Rude wrestled his heart out for the WWF! Why, oh why couldn't he be allowed to hold the title for awhile? Answer that one, Vincent Kennedy McMahon!!!
Tremendous. Rick Rude in his prime: just awesome. Bobby Heenan in his prime: Outstanding. Arsenio in his prime: eh, 2 out of 3 isn't bad. This was a great example of business cross-promotion with honest-to-God working kayfabe. With talents like Rude and Heenan that we'll probably never see the like of again. RIP Rick Rude in any case.
We had a Legend in Rick Rude and Bobby Heenan.. WOW, what have we got now? THe MIZ, R TRUTH, And over 80 percent of the WWE universe now? OMG.. Put me in a time machine and let me go back to when Wrestling was AWESOME!! anyone want to come with me?
rude was one of the best along with the macho man and mr. wonderful......the took wrestling to the next level......great bodies and wrestling skills along with being able to talk the smack and get the crowd involved......the were loved to be hated, but they were my favs......
Ravishing Rick Rude was a great wrestler in his time ⏲️ and a wrestling legend. He was one the wrestlers that put the WWF on the map. The Arsenio Hall Show was so cool 😎 with Rick Rude and Bobby The Brain 🧠 Heenan on it. Great Segment. The tights as a gift 🎁 was classic and funny. Little Richard's Jacket. Arsenio Hall at the beach ⛱. "Let's Get Busy".
