@@rossmanngroup Louis, people have been making less each year, paying more just to barely scrape by each year over decades. Most people just kind of quietly grumble and accept it, they don't do ANYTHING about it. Sure theres plenty of valid reasons for people not to deal with it, but if nobody does, things only get progressively worse. It's incredibly rare for someone to do what you've done and to the extent you've done/currently are working towards this. It's a pretty selfless action (I know you could probably claim you own a repair business and it's in your best interest). You and the people supporting your efforts, or people supporting right to repair on their own have all done amazing work. Someone 'might' have been able to do something similar,, but I think your following and drive was a very significant part of the progress in right to repair overall. You're doing more than a lot of politicians, more than a lot of the richest wealth hoarders, for the average person. I didn't even know how scummy practices were before I found your channel.

That is the way, Caleb. Talk to the people, and convince them to call / write to their representatives. Assume your reps don't fully understand why R2R is important, and that they are not aware how many of their voters / constituants CARE. Assume they are living in a time before the internet, and don't understand new-fangled technology. Perhaps you could write up a standard letter to your specific rep, that people can simply print out and sign. Or perhaps a PETITION among those 50/60 people you talked to (name, city of residence, signature.. Perhaps email address). If they don't hear from the people, all they have to go on is the word of anti-repair lobbyists It's about tipping the scales :)

The fun part comes when we get a good bill passed that forces companies to allow repair. Because if you can get the parts / Schematics in the USA.... they will likely end up available in other countries too. Writing/calling your representatives is the way; THAT ultimately makes the difference - that they know this issue matters to VOTERS/constituants. Louis can inform us and fight the good fight, but ultimately - he is NOT registered to VOTE in all 50 (?) States. The people that call, write, send in petitions.... YOU are the one(s) that make this happen :) Just assume your reps simply don't know... They don't understand why this is important. They don't know how many people care. The people (starting with you, your friends, your relatives) have to educate them. Otherwise their only real source of information... Is the lobbyists & companies voting against it. Tip the scales :) You're doing the good work - thank you. (We're all in this together - world wide - and every victory matters in the fight against 'single use' tech. Cheers from Amsterdam (NL)

@@rossmanngroup Just watched the first video and wow , I have to ask is she even lucid, that ware extremely incoherent , but anyway as some one who use to fix consoles and have a grasp on modern ones , the argument makes no sense, take for instance the SSDs soldered into modern consoles , these will fail eventually it's a wear item, and currently swapping them (flash/nand) will brick a console , allowing the system to reformat a new ssd won't modify firmware or allow piracy. Apus are also linked the other components on the board , making repairs that much harder.

@@FaSMaN removal of what is left of the flash/nand and putting it on a board to copy it may do more harm/corruption so I agree. Even Arduino has a header to allow people to ' reflash ' something and older motherboards had similar ways to put legitimate software back on replacement chips ( ever upgrade an AMI motherboard? ) so it is possible to be done at the manufacturing level and be encrypted.

I haven't. I am 100% certain this will be fought in courts as I mention in the video. Apple will kick and scream before I am ever able to purchase the modern equivalent of an LP133WP1-TJAA, CD3217, ISL9240, or angle sensor programmer through "legitimate" means. I know in my heart that my business will most likely become insolvent & bankrupt long before Apple ever makes parts or schematics available to us. I know that the parts I was able to purchase even 7 years ago, will not be available again while my business is around, and that I'll be saying goodbye to my employees before the war is won for our side. But in terms of a legislative victory, this is it. and it should be celebrated for what it is - the next victory in a very long line of necessary victories for us to live in a fixable world. Even if my business is gone, this isn't about me. It's about the next generation and the generation after that growing up in a world where their property is truly *theirs* and not simply leased from the manufacturer until something breaks. That matters, and is worth fighting for. This is 1 battle, but there's a war to win. Whether my business survives to the end of it matters not in the grand scheme of things.
@DarthSpock9940
@DarthSpock9940 Год назад
@@rossmanngroup Don’t loose hope. Depending on how the courts rule and which laws are passed it can happen fairly quickly. For example, the EU mandate of USB-C will force Apple to add usb-c within the next couple years. Could be the same for right to repair.

well done Louis, really doing consumers a service not many of them know they need, I for one would love the ability to repair my own electronics (that are not just basic stuff like a electric shaver that came without a charger that I made work with some lithium batteries)

Congrats on your success in MN! I just fired off emails to my Senator and Assemblyperson in CA asking them to publicly support SB244. Let's hope that one gets through as-is!

Been casually following this since you started and even despite the fact that i don't even live in the same continent, I'm still happy that you go through the hassle and set the president on what should be the standard!
