(backhands a zombie and breaks its jaw off) Listen pal, why don't you find somewhere safe to hide and leave the undead killing to the professionals? Frank: I'm totally a professional! I've survived more zombie uprisings than I can count and I've also covered wars, y'know!

Wiz: Ash Williams: The chainsaw armed fighter from Evil Dead. Boomstick: And Frank West: The Zombie Slaying Reporter from Dead Rising. Wiz: Dealing with a huge army of undead beings is no easy task, especially when you face them alone. Boomstick: But these 2 legends are not afraid of taking said task. In fact, they make it look easy since they use everything they can find to take down hordes of the undead. Wiz: Right. Because they don't just fight them with bravery, but also their ingenuity. Boomstick: He's Wiz & I'm Boomstick. Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor & skills to find out who will win a Death Battle!

I'm gonna spare everyone the affront of doing the bajilionth "groovy" joke but still, that's one hell of a funky matchup in all the right ways. I'll be honest, I'd have thought that Ash's first commission would be someone like Denji given I believe that's his most popular matchup. But I'm I'm not complaining with this either; it's a pretty standard matchup but it works really nicely. Few things out there that are funkier than two protagonists of series where the whole premise is that they take mutated/possessed creatures that want to eat their brains and turn them into jokes via absolutely absurd but cool as hell ways fighting one another to death. And the track does this premise justice pretty well. Unlike, say, Resident Rising where the track went for a mix of comical/lighthearted and serious themes due to the fact that one half of the matchup was Resident Evil, here the track doesn't shy away from just sounding as bombastic as it can with very stereotypically catchy and energetic melodies that perfectly fit the matchup. It truly feels like two borderline insane guys that are somehow heroes still trying to one-up the other with the most absurdly cool stuff they have in their arsenal from second one to the very end of the song and it works perfectly at that. I don't really have many segments to note in particular throughout the song as most of its duration encapsulates what I said above but I still want to note a couple of things. The first one being that I really like how the guitar riffs during the majority of the song are made to sound like an engine revving up (IE: 1:57-2:03) , something perfectly fitting given Ash's chainsaw arm. It's a small thing but it gives the song a lot of personality which is always appreciable. And the second thing I wish to note is of course the ending starting at 2:25 which takes everything I said before about the song and makes it even better. It feels so stereotypically energetic and cool that it almost sounds like one of those 80s sports TV programs songs (Aerobic Champions type of things) and I absolutely love that. It gets across both the timeframe where those two characters belong to while also making for an amazingly fitting conclusion to the song that gets across really well everything you need to know about the matchup and the characters inside of it. Overall this track is pretty classic but in all the right ways. It knows what it's trying to be and perfectly grasps the tone of its matchup to make something that stands out nicely while also fitting the general absurdity and coolness of both characters/franchises. Sure it doesn't go for anything too extravagant but as I often say in those reviews, it doesn't need to because it already is more than enjoyable as it is which fits those two pretty well when you think about it; two classic "horror" franchises that have barely changed since their start and that are still most popular for their original renditions. Amazing job as always with this.
