This is cool. They should have made a tv series out of this, a comedic Bond. This must not have been easy memorizing all this dialogue without any cuts. Moore was a pretty good actor.
I like the guy at 1:32 who, after taking a punch and falling over a table, takes it on himself to get back up and fall over the railing! Neat find, thanks for posting.
I never had a smile on my face watching a Bond movie as when Moore and Brosnan played Bond. Both are very handsome smooth with great presence and a touch of human comic element.
I Loved it ! Am a serious James Bond aficionado . To Sir Roger Moore 007 , You shall be missed. Live and let Die , first Bond for you. To all of the J. Bonds . Praise all of you.
WOW! With all the technical GAFFS that happened there, Millicent M actually falling on her butt, the waiter knocking over the props etc. it's a tribute to 2 young pros that they were able to get through the scetch.
Note Millicent Martin really fell there - and they carried on as if nothing really went wrong. RIP Roger, the best Bond I grew up watching - one of my Heroes.
Reminds me of the commercials that Pierce Brosnan made for Coke after he lost the role of Bond b/c of his television contract. Those ads established him, for many, as the James Bond in-waiting.
The producers actually met Pierce Brosnan in 1980 while they were shooting For Your Eyes Only. He was married to actress Cassandra Harris who appears in the movie. At the time they liked him well enough to consider him as a future Bond. There was also a huge gossip around 1984-1985 that Brosnan already was *set* to become the next James Bond. Alas his tv contract and the 6 year hiatus meant that took another 10 years.
@Fareed Waseem Did you watch the video? Here he is Bond in 1964. His last movie is 1985. 21 years. And Sean did Dr. No in 1964 and Never Say Never in 1985. 21. Actually, Sean played James Bond in the 2005 PS2 game From Russia with Love, making him Bond for 43 years.
Roger Moore is my favorite Bond . He played the gentleman spy character perfectly. James Bond is not supposed to be über macho, which makes it all the more fantastic when he defeats giants like Oddjob or Jaws.
"James Bond is not supposed to be über macho" That's the comment of someone who has never ever turned a page in a bond BOOK. Bond is not necessarily "über macho" as you put it! But what he is is highly intelligent, extremely dangerous and extremely vengeful. He is a user, who plays the part of a seducing gentleman but only for his personal gain. He's got a troubled past, and he drags it around like a weapon. When the only love of his life is murdered he uses his anger and skills to lay waste to the bad guys. There is so much depth to the character that frankly the Roger Moore era, while fun and quirky, it is still so far away from what Bond is about it's not even funny! There has never been a truly accurate portrayal of the character and probably the closest is Daniel Craig in Casino Royal. This bond show us his impetuous nature, his need for vengeance and his need for approval despite breaking all the rules. You should maybe look into the Bond character more. Because Roger Moore (who i like) is nothing like the real bond character.
DAGATHire Well said Sir. I don't mind people spouting their opinions of the Bond films. However, I'm constantly seeing Goldeneye and The Spy Who Loved Me ranking the tops of personal favorite Bond movies. I have read all of the Fleming novels to tedium and Moore was an abomination of the character. Craig and Dalton are, hands down, the closest interpretations with Connery being a very great fit as well. In terms of story, On Her Majesty's Secret Service is almost a word for scene duplicate of it's source material. As much as I respect Moore and think he did an adequate job making a lampoon of the series. Him and Brosnan were utter jokes compared to the "better Bonds"
Mrpastry909 Everyone has their personal favourite mate. It's not wrong it's just a matter opinion. I was just pointing out that the Bond Character is not really a gentle man. I loved only one woman, all the other women he uses to get what he wants. He's actually a ruthless bastard at times. And sometimes those women he uses get killed. And he is portrayed as being hurt in some way. But in fact he is straight up angry. Not because he loved her but because she was killed as a result of say Bond's mistakes. So in reality the gentleman spy idea has been twisted somewhat.
ETUsloppysatan Indeed Dalton was way before his time! Coming in after Moore did him no favors. the general public had gotten used to this cartoon (Moore) version and were just not ready for Dalton. Its a real shame. Because the 3 movies he made were quite good and as you say accurate to the character. "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" I hated that movie mate. I know it's as you say a page for page remake of the book, but lazenby was awful. Some people liked him. I thought he was terrible. Ruined the movie for me personally.
I am not a James bond fan, but have always thought that Roger Moore was a decent actor, who does not take himself too seriously. He was very good in the Saint T. V series that I remember from my childhood.. Thank you for the upload.
🤣🤣 Rather funny for it day. I liked the guy throwing himself over the railing and, "Just a splash"...waiter squirts the floor. I wonder if she slipped on the wet floor. 🤣🤣
I wouldn't mind at all seeing Roger do Bond in the 60s than Sean, but unfortunately he was occupied with "The Saint",an absolute package of a brilliant actor in those days, still he's a LEGEND and always will be!,and this small show episode is really funny.
Wonderful clip, complete with goofs and like good troopers they kept on going and even an adlib from MM. I'm guessing this went out live? Thanks for the upload.
I just love how the guy whos got the chair stolen from right underhim is thrown so far back with a single kick and falls yet wehn he gets back up the momentum picks back up on him and he throws himself from a railing because he lost his chair.........................Best acting EVER
Very good. Thanks for posing. It looks like Millicent's stumble at 7:14 was real but fit in perfectly with the script, or did Moore improvise that "nice trip."
Very good, thanks for posting. It looks like Millicent's stumble at 7:14 is real but it fit in perfectly with the script or did Roger improvise that "nice trip" line.
great performance!! There were at least two bloopers (the knocked over glass and the trip)in which they recovered like pro's. She's a great actress,,usually seen on the satirical programs with David Frost. Always though of Rodger Moore as an overlooked comic actor.
Very rare indeed, had no idea he played bond in anything before LALD! Even though it`s a comedy clip, we can see here that he clearly allways had the intention of playing the charming, humorous playboy we saw in his following years as 007!
Milly had a show called MAINLY MILLICENT she asked Roger to guest on it and they would do a skit on his showTHE SAINT. His producers would not allow them to use the name THE SAINT .....sO they used 007 Bond!!!Prophetic or what.
First i found the original casino royale film climax in 1954 then i found this the early roger moore as james bond in 1964 before live and let die in 1973
I think that Ian Fleming Bond is darker and all of other actors played the character with Sean Connery or The Novels in mind. But Sir Roger Moore was different,he created his own Bond, with his subtle sense of humour. Colin Firth could have played his type of Bond.
3:44 I'm pretty sure that "try one of mine" line was actually used by Roger Moore in The Man With The Golden Gun. I wonder if it was an intentional in-joke...
