I must tell you I thoroughly enjoyed your video. I have been building a prostreet vette off and on for 10 years my set up is a dart little m small block with a blower shop 871. I won’t go into the engine internals just know I have 30 grand into the block and parts. I’ve never heard anything like your video before. I’ve been turning wrenches for over 50 years so I consider myself accomplished this however was my first blower motor and looking back if I would have left the 750 mighty demon carbs alone I wouldn’t have had all these tuning problems. Initially I had a lot of blower surge and I liked that but I couldn’t leave good enough alone so now I’m having tuning issues. The car is almost ready to be body worked for paint. I have an Alston chassis with a fab9 rear with 488 gears and a Detroit locker. I changed all the front suspension to rack and pinion and wildwood brakes all around. Sorry fort the long post, I don’t even know if you’ll get this this far out. Well thanks again and I’ll subscribe.

We got all the way through it! Thank you for the kind words and we look forward to providing you with more great content. Concerning your post, you've got a fan in us, we love a good blown SBC. Blowers can be tricky to tune, your better off fowling some plugs along the way until you learn what the motor wants. Blower surge can be a problem for tuning. Id suggest you send those demons into a builder that knows blowers and have him set up a base tune to start, then only very small adjustments from there. Blowers tend to do the opposite of what you'd expect a NA combo to do. I hope you can get your rig figured out, you need to be able to enjoy something you've spent 10 years completing!

Hi, I am doing a BBC 540 with TBS 10-71with dual stage nitrous on a ,1978 Vette... Last blower engine I did was 1985-88. Rusty and adding intercooler this time. If pro Street doesn't have a radio, air, carpet then guess my car is one...lol. More like last hotrod and want a 3000 lb 8.5 quarter car to drive to Kroger... I have 70 acres in the middle of we first speed trap north of Atlanta... At 71 yrs old what could go wrong...lol. Parachute and handicap tag...lol.

I appreciate this video. Blowers for what they do, are pretty simple but there are many little differences like what you pointed out. I didnt know the difference on the openings so that was really cool to see. Eventually want to go blown alcohol on the Altered and run 7.50. Liking the videos.

You're not wrong about anodizing, its a good idea to anodize the rotors and run all the special stuff you need for methanol when you are running other fuels like ethanol, because some race gas can cause all sorts of problems too. Honestly I had more problems running race gas in the 1980s and 90s than I have running E85 since 2007, and I am using the exact same fuel system parts, engines, and carbs.. the EFI is new to me though, its been a fun experience. I've been running E85 and home made E100 in my Pontiacs since 2007, converted Qjets and Holleys, ran it with FiTech EFI and factory LS EFI non flex systems. I've run ethanol with 8:1 compression all the way to 13:1 in my daily driven 455s and 400s. Currently I am in the process of putting a 6-71 on my Pontiac 505, its a bit small for the engine, but I am not trying to set records, more of a street strip fun toy to make people cry around here. Its a carbon copy of Big Chief's iron block 482, except he has a 4" crank while I have a 4.25" crank, and his will handle 60psi, mine is good for around 30psi or so. The only problems I have encountered with ethanol have been from additives, which vary by region and season. Anodizing is nice for ethanol, but not mandatory, I get zero problems from my home made fuel and it has 5% to 15% water still in it. Jeff Smith, who wrote for Summit Racing's Onallcylinders tech page found the same thing I have, ethanol is not corrosive, but additives can be, and it really depends on what additives are put in with the gasoline when they make E85. My 505 has been running E85 with a tunnel ram and EFI for the last two years, it will be running E85/E100 with the blower too. Because of the additives I will probably pull the blower off in winter and keep it dry inside. All the other Pontiacs I have around here just get parked and the battery pulled for winter. With methanol, you definitely need anodized rotors, stainless and methanol compatible fuel system parts, and the after run oil and all the special stuff. You cannot let methanol sit in carbs, injectors, blowers, or engines. If you don't have all of that and just leave it in there, you will have lots of expensive junk. Methanol and ethanol are quite different fuels, they are not the same thing at all. That temp drop and the added oxygen in ethanol makes lots of power, its addictive. When you can produce your own fuel for 40 cents a gallon from cattails or cardboard, the car thing gets to be more fun and enjoyable. Thats why I got into ethanol, pump gas was $5 a gallon and driving a GTO that got 15 to 18mpg wasn't gonna be much fun.

Easier to buy rather than milling and the pue deal had me puzzled. Akly Diggers in Chattanooga TN was found to be old friend that remembered me and Linda aka Miss Hurst...lol. Well I see my trust of his company was well deserved. Qfter break in of the engine I will add the 10-71 with a bit of Nitrous to my car for trips to Kroger. I added a ice water intercooler.....but live in the middle of Georgia's worst speed trap. Fun in ,2024 what could go wrong running E-85, Nitrous, blower and 71 yrs old....????

671 is really all you need for a street motor. Even with the 520 you'll still be able to make some boost bust will be limited by the quality of fuel anyway.

Great video , im new to the blower world , got a couple of 64 el caminos and wanna build a low budget sbc with a blower , just for show/street , my question is , i want that whiney blower sound , already got a Pete jackson gear drive , so what blower makes the noisy whine im after ? Thanks !
@bloodbrothersracing
@bloodbrothersracing Год назад
This is a highly debated question. Some people say a tighter blower belt will cause it to whine others say it's the gears in the blower. I wouldn't go to excessive on the blower belt tightness, 3/4 inch movement when cold, the gears are blower specific, and my new BDS has some really loud whine. I'd say with that Pete Jackson you'll have plenty of whine without doing to much.

I just converted 8V92 & on my 351 stroker.. carb adapter is on eBay 175$ but free for me to make if I have the material and time. Good little project but it takes some time. Lots of time. And I wonder why they don't make plates to convert a regular blower to a front discharged by just cutting the Little triangle out?? Instead of cutting the whole square out?? Any lost me on how to measure the length of your snout. You said from the blower pulley to the case but probably ment from the crankshaft to the case correct!??
@bloodbrothersracing
@bloodbrothersracing Год назад
I assume the whole square is cut out to be able to be used on non retro blowers to set them back for packaging purposes. Sorry, I must of misspoke on snout length. It's measured by placing a straight edge on the blower pulley mounted on the crank and then measuring from straight edge to blower case where the snout is bolted, then minus 1/4 inch from that measurement for blower pulley flange. Hope that clears it up, if not I'll attach a picture.

Can you run standard GM blower on alcohol no teflon or anodizing, you mentioned it requires race gas so I assume there is bigger clearance compared to alcohol clearanced blower.
@bloodbrothersracing
@bloodbrothersracing 2 месяца назад
You cannot not run methanol with out anodizing the case and rotors, it will eat away at the aluminum. The Teflon could be considered optional, but without it, you would be losing all the benefits of running methanol such as higher boost. Hope that helps!

Got a question if you can help with injectors trying to figure out with injector size i need for a roots blown 8 cylinders motor i got a 16 nozzle injector plate looking for least 1000hp on pump gas some other fuels im considering for a little more power is sunoco260gtx(98 octane eithanol free)or sunoco260gt(100 octane)or sunoco260gt plus(104 octane)and 1500hp on methanol but thats down the road what size injector will i need what is the formula thanks
@bloodbrothersracing
@bloodbrothersracing 3 месяца назад
If your using mechanical injection with pump gas then you are going to have a hard time tuning it. Gas has a narrower tuning window than methanol. I personally wouldn't try it with gas without consulting a real expert like Spud Miller from FIE Injection. As far as what jets to use for your setup, your going to need to supply way more info to get a good baseline. Engine size, cam timing, compression, fuel pump flow numbers and boost predictions would at a minimum be pertinent information. Long and short of it, jet size is determined by how much fuel you need to burn for a given HP/boost and what fuel pressure you need to be at a given RPM. It's black magic. Give spud a call, you won't regret it.

What are your thoughts on some of the new generation of Roots Blower guys running a dry case with only throttle bodies up top, then multiport EFI manifolds and injectors down below ? I thought that gas going through the rotors (as with carbs) was a net positive for temps and rotor longevity ? Even alchy guys run injected hat setups up top, so are these guys that want regular ECU tunability and EFI port injection below the blower asking for trouble with a dry case ?
@bloodbrothersracing
@bloodbrothersracing Год назад
You've got to have some fuel going into the blower to lubricate and cool rotors. I cant imagine a dry case lasting very long. I will be going in depth on this topic in a future video when I talk about the fuel system I am using, but in short, I have provisions for both hat and port injection. I am using mechanical injection for my setup, but if I was to use EFI I would have 8 port injectors and maybe 2 or 4 hat injectors to fog the blower. This is all dueable with a holley terminator or fuel tech products. If my league rules would allow it, this would be my approach.
