Love this point thank you! gonna try this next time I throw: -don’t jump off with the drive leg. Rotate, don’t push. -sink with the hips through rotation.

Im confused on throwing because at first its so simple just get the ball to the area but then you gotta learn HOW to throw :(

Having a nice big hole to step into and really press up against the rubber really helps. No, you don’t want to “jump”, but you do need to press up against the earth as much as you can, and having a larger surface of earth to press up against (behind you, as you want to drive forward, not up) will only help more.

Bit late to the video. But do u have any drills to help with rotating. I find that when I start to rotate I come up and lose power where as I need to stay down and rotate through

My coach always that you want to extend as far as you can and I started pushing of my back leg to extend farther. I don’t think that the extra 3-4 inches of extension you get from doing that helps your Velo at all. I get my power from my arm whip and coiling (I throw kind of sidearm) I started noticing a slight increase in Velo but overall more consistent Velo.

brother please, whats a drill to help drive hip rotation. My heel is flat on the ground at front full strike. I cant cue my body to rotate my hips.

So Robby, you don’t want hip rotation before knee rotation correct? What I’m so stumped about, is if we rotate, how does the ankle move? Any time I practice the movement of rotation I’m stuck on my toes, or I feel like I have to push off my feet. Love your content man!

hey man appreciate the kind words! So if you look at the drive leg you'll see that the hip + knee rotate together with little deviation. I know it gets confusing sometimes cuz you don't want the knee to collapse early. I'd say read the full article I published on my website regarding Hip Rotation Mechanics.

To be fair, like with most things in life, there is no such thing as "only do this". High velocity pitchers tend to generate higher drive forces with the drive leg, higher ground reaction forces with the stride leg and they do so while still rotating the hips on time. Stating otherwise results in comments like "pure gold"....from people who will be leaving velo in the tank.

I struggle to hold my back leg long enough to store that energy while I extend, and I end up losing most of it by the time I get my hips going. Do you have any drills that could help with this?

Also, by jumping, you disconnect from the earth, and you need to transfer energy from the earth into the ball. How can you do that if you are disconnected from the earth? Can’t.

you arent really consciously rotation your hips though right. Its more like a byproduct. When front knee extends, back knee begins to extend which causes your pelvis to end up rotating along with it
