It's amazing how serious and dry Rowan Atkinson is when he's not playing a character. He's not a "joke" comedian, or even a "story" comedian, he's a smart character actor.
A surprising proportion of very ‘funny’ actors/performers are actually quite shy in person, they ‘inhabit’ their personas or the characters they portray but aren’t naturally funny people. Eg Eric Morecambe, Ronnie Barker, Miranda Hart, etc. Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel would be classic examples.
Rowan Atkinson's transformation of his face when he gets into character and does the voice when he reads his lines is amazing. He looks almost like a human tortoise.
He does not switch character he is the same character speaking differently character acting is an et David suchet discovered Meissner strove to hide and Monty python failed to find
@@jurrasicparkvideocompilation It is absolutely a change in character. His mannerisms, facial expression, speech, and posture all change to create the character.
I saw this done live on his 1985 tour when he was in Melbourne. It was the most memorable line in the funniest show I’ve ever been to. The audience took fully 30 seconds to refocus.
I always enjoy when someone this good at character-work is willing to isolate what they're doing into parts and allow me to see all the elements separately and then come together to create the full effect.
Did you know that RA, despite his Mr Bean character having over 80 milion followers on social media, he does not own a social media account himself? That's how disciplined he is.
If you listen to his interviews, he has explained SEVERAL TIMES over the years that he actually (ironically) has no sense of humor at all. He rarely laughs at anything. He's a more serious person. I know that sounds strange coming from him but that's who he is and he's very honest about it, so keeping a straight face during these skits is very easy for him. It's just a performance for him. He has no sense of humor himself. He has stated however that he's not proud of the fact that he lacks a sense of humor... It's just who he is. I love him regardless. He enjoys making others laugh even if he lacks a sense of humor himself and that's fine. He's still brilliant!
@@fairplayer7435He prefers PEACE over attention and finds social media to have too many trolls and needles conflicts. Squabblings. He's actually a much more serious person than most people realize. He prefers solitude. He likes cars (even enjoys a bit of racing from time to time). Reading. His own company mostly and that of close friends. He has no real sense of humor (ironically) and has stated this several times within interviews, although he's not proud of that fact, it's just who he is. Hard to make him laugh, that's why he never falls out of character. I am an avid fan. That's how I know these things of him. If you watch a few of his interviews you'll see how he is as a person in real life.
I like how he fully commits, like, really 100% to his characters. Anyone else would feel too awkward to expose themselves like that, I mean someone's inside humor is intimate, he just goes 100% out with it.
What a pretentious, pompous announcement of yourself. Unless you are being self-deprecating, sir (which I doubt). Otherwise, take the poker out of your arse and don't watch RA in future so that we don't have to suffer your meaningless comments.
Oh God, not another snotty-nosed, jumped-up little kid whose mother won't let him swear at home so he has do it either here or in the school playground. Your father, if indeed you have one, needs to take his belt to you boy.
I'm dying!! I'm crying from laughter. You made my night :) I've know Rowan Atkinson for thirty years and I've never seen this one! Timeless comic genius. Thank you for posting
Its such a shame that Rowan Atkinson is only really recognised by most as Mr Bean because his other less known about projects, sketches, programs and movies have been great too. Stuff like this he's done are for me, hidden gems.
I know and like him better as Blackadder. Snarkier and more sarcastic. Blackadder: Baldric, have you no idea what "irony" is? Baldric: Yeah, it's like "goldy" and "bronzy" only it's made out of iron.
+Lord Eden I couldn't possibly answer that for numerous reasons, having said that evem when he repeats the same material its still funny, because of his facial expression, his voice, his delivery etc.
"Whom I always promised to mention in my will ... hello." He is a treasure. I hope he's knighted, and if he hasn't been already, Charles needs to get a move on!
Within seconds he is transformed into something else. Right in front of our eyes. How can he keep a straight face when people are laughing like nuts. In this video he was so young. He was that good even then.
You should watch more of his interviews He actually explains that he himself as a person lacks a sense of humor in regard to most things (ironically) He has stated several times that it's hard to make him laugh He's not proud of that fact but it's just who he is I think one of the only people who can make him laugh is John Cleese because he always speaks very highly about how much he admires him.
The closed captioning turned toad into turd 😂 - I didn't check the rest, luckily I'm very attuned to Rowan's diction, even as a decrepit solicitor. What a gift to comedy this extraordinary man is ❤
Damn! He performed in Melbourne? I hate it when you find out about live event in your city after it has already taken place... Even more so when it took place before you were born.
