Today, we continue from our previous ride, from Bowness on Windermere to the top of the Kirkstone Pass. Leaving the carpark, we turn left onto the A592, then left at the roundabout onto Rayrigg Road (still the A592). Then at the next roundabout continue straight across, and yes, you've guessed it, still the A592, the Kirkstone Pass.
We pull up just before the Kirkstone Inn, as I was expecting it to be quite busy.
I hope you enjoy this ride, and will consider subscribing, as following this, on the next video, we will be riding down "The Struggle" into Ambleside.
Thanks for Watching.

I love that Kirkstone pass ride out, some breathtaking views mate. (especially when you reach the brow, heading towards Brother`s Water.) 😊 Funny you should mention Hardknott and Wrynose passes. Since last year, when I went over both passes with Northwest Biker, I have been seriously considering, sometime this summer, taking @SheWolf-Cumbria on the back of the Yzf over to Ravenglass, first calling off at Stickle barn for a Strong coffee, taking in the sights of little Langdale and then over Wrynose and Hardknott passes before heading down to the coast.

Sounds like a plan. The A595 when you get on it is f’in brilliant, then turning left (staying on the A595) is epic in places.

Bloody brilliant video Ian, it's been too long since we were last up there, and you caught fantastic conditions. Just let anyone try and dissuade me from using the passes! I've been enjoying those roads since the early 70's, and I'm not about to stop now. Nanny state indeed!! Thanks again anyway Ian, and stay safe. 👍

Nice quiet roads, the best time to do these roads. Last time I was in Bowness the pavements were crammed with folk wearing face mask, we decided not to stop due to the crowds.

A friend and I did the Hardknott and Wrynose passes on a Honda 90, years ago, no trouble at all. The only place I've fried a clutch is the Winnats Pass in Derbyshire, stuck behind a sightseer who insisted on driving between 5 and 30mph to take in the view. People greatly exaggerate the degree of difficulty, or perhaps they think you shouldn't ride in first gear.
@ianhughesroyalenfield

The thing is, you only need to look at the Thumbnails on YT to see just how much hype there is about the “Most dangerous Roads in Britain”. I intend to do Wrynose and Hardknott on Clementine this year, so maybe a “catchy” title will see the vid go viral 😂

Interesting point Ian looking at the road your on it looks like you can see those lines which look like were they've been over it with the machine that leaves the manholes really raised and then not put a sufficient amount of proper tarmac over it and just relied on gravel chippings dropped over a layer of bitumen and rolled them so as it sinks then the lines start coming through the surface so in effect they miss out a layer completely only my opinion though . Lovely stretch of road there with some great views good watch well done shame about the cars I know just what you mean 😉👌👍

Absolutely Kev. I have just nipped to Carnforth in the van. Can't believe that workmen are redoing the white lines, on a section of road which has been dug up so many times, it is like a washboard. Bloody maddening 😞😠

A nice continuation of your ride, Ian, though the temperature still wouldn't excite me. Much cooler here than it was; 33C today with 34C forecast for the next three days. Those striations in the road surface can be very unsettling for a bike. Here in Oz they're often scraped in as a prelude to resurfacing, as they give an effective keyway for the new top-dressing. Let's hope those roads as shown will get that too!
@ianhughesroyalenfield

@@ianhughesroyalenfield I rarely rode for pleasure, back in the day, Ian. It was my sole means of transport to/from my military base - and I had a hot girlfriend waiting for me in my home town. 😜 Re wimping, after enduring minus 38C on a winter NATO exercise, I swore never to be that cold ever again.🥶 That's why I don't complain even when the temperature here hits the occasional 49C.

Thanks for the mention Ian, it's going to be a while yet before we reach that part of the ride in my series. From a weather point of view that was the best day of the trip, until it went dark and I froze riding over the moors in Dumfries and Galloway. The root of the problem with our roads, as I've probably said before, is the local councils taking the lowest tender they can get, forcing the road maintenance companies to provide the cheapest solution they can, even though in the long term it ends up costing tax payers more money. There is absolutely no doubt we are run by short sighted, self important imbeciles. Cheers, Mick

You know Ian that was brilliant, luved it. Sound was spot on and the views were breathtaking. I’ve been riding those passes since the 1970’s; I’ve heard a rumour that it’s all part of the narrative to reduce car usage in the Lake District (I know, incredulous isn’t it). Best use em whilst we’re still allowed too. Hope you’ve got enough battery to show us the Struggle, that’s the route I generally take, luv that little road. Thanx Ian, top man. Mind how you go and ride safe.

Exactly, just needed the surface to be improved, but even that wasn’t as much of a big deal as other roads. From my understanding, the highways people, were going to put extra barriers up, to stop idiots falling off the edge, though I haven’t really seen much difference on that score yet. Oh, btw, The struggle video is live now, and yes the battery held out……..in fact it stopped about 250 yards from home 😂😂😂

Luv that little road ; much better on a big screen than my I phone or Lap top. Taking Hera to Whitby for some Kippers from Fortunes. Gonna get some scran from the Whistle Stop Cafe in the train station car park. You know the one where the railway banned motorcycles from the car park. The fight back was so big they were forced to change their minds. Cheers bud

Nice ride Ian, yes there's a lot of hype in the media about the "the most dangerous " or "deadliest" roads in Britain, it's not the road's that are deadly, it's the incompetence or stupidity of drivers that seems to have developed, certainly in the last two or three year's? Maybe they lost any ability they had during lock down eh? 🤔😆 I must go up Hardknott this year myself, last time I was up there was about forty years ago on my XS1100 with my missus and camping gear on the back! She didn't like it but she doesn't like heights ! 😅 I think I'll be on my own next time, or she'll wait at the bottom having a fag! 😆 Cheers Mel 🍻
