Hulk Hogan turning heel in 1996 to join the outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) to officially form the NWO was a true game changer and a turning point in wrestling history. It was the best move for business and for Hogan's career and overall character, his whole Hulkamania act was completely stale and repacking him as 'Hollywood' was absolutely brilliant and his promo that he delivered after his turn is one of the greatest of all time

I will say, some of these comments on that thread aren't that far from the truth. As laughable as these rants sound. Hogan in '95 was starting to get very tiresome. '95 was when the Dungeon of Doom happened. Whose sole purpose was to put Hogan over. Hogan convinced Bischoff that 90s WCW should be 80s WWF. The problem is that what worked in the 80s wasn't gonna work in the 90s. Plus what Hogan failed to understand was that the WCW audience was WAY different than the WWF audience. And that one '96 comment was right on the nose. Even though Hogan turning heel changed the wrestling business forever, Hogan still was on an ego trip. Even as a heel, Hogan just would not put people over, at least not clean. Hogan still made it all about himself. Case and point, Starrcade 97 and how Hogan made Sting and Bret Hart look like absolute geeks. Hogan single-handedly ruined the biggest night in WCW history.

My first memory of noticeable Hogan boos was the November PPV World War III in 1995. Hogan was going through this weird phase where he was wearing black. They did this segment where Hogan burned the black and started wearing the red and yellow. They announced all 60 guys coming to the ring and Hogan was 60. I remember the fans loudly booing him. You could hear them booing as he was cutting the promo earlier too. I was probably like 7 at the time. My second memory of a face having noticeable boos was when HBK got booed out the building at MSG against Sid at S.Series 96. Sid was so over that night lol.

Honestly, Bischoff basically did bend over for Hogan. There are times im suspicious about the true nature of that relationship. Same thing with Nash. Bischoff twisted himself into a pretzel for them, but was so harsh with the mid card guys. And it screwed him and WCW.

I wanted to listen to this again because I think it’s one of my favorite videos on RU-vid but something the guy kept saying his email kind of made me laugh a little because I don’t think today’s fans realize how much this happened back in the 90s. In the 90s people weren’t “woke” and it was still looked at as OK in public guy to accuse people of homosexuality like it was a bad thing and I think the worst fandom for this hands-down was the pro wrestling fans of the 90s. I’m sure Jason could give us a weeks worth of rewind going back and reading every post where a pro wrestling fan accused wrestlers of fucking either Vince McMahon or Eric Bischoff. If a wrestler a fan hated in the 90s got a push you can bet the next day there would be someone online saying that he’s fucking the promoter and some of these people believe this shit with all their soul lol

Let’s be honest about the Hulk Hogan merchandise money in WCW. I’m not going to say I never saw anyone with Hulk Hogan’s shirts on in 1994 through 1995, but it did seem like if you went to a house show during that time you didn’t see but maybe half a dozen Hogan shirts . At least that’s how it was in Raleigh and I don’t think I was alone in feeling that way. But even Eric Bischoff said in a recent interview that Hogan really wasn’t making any money on Murch. Not because his contract wasn’t set up to, it was, but they weren’t selling enough Hulk Hogan shirts back in the day for Hogan to even make six figures a year off it. WCW never made any profit in merchandise until the nWo came along. And that includes the two years hulk was there prior. So if he isn’t even selling enough Murch for WCW to really make any money off it then he’s probably not either.

Just replace Hogan with Cena like 20 years later and Roman Reigns 30 years ago. These psychotic fans are in every single timeline

It is hilarious to think back in these guys are running on at the mouth as they are complete Experts because it really didn’t play out that way at all. Hulk ended up doing clean jobs for people, say what you want about him but as a heel he did clean jobs for Piper, Goldberg, Sting, DDP, ..... not saying that hulk did not eventually just explode and could not take it anymore and in a desperate plea because he was worried that he wouldn’t be looked at is number one anymore, the finger poke of doom happened. I’ve loved Starrcade 98, I didn’t have a problem with Kevin Nash beating Goldberg, and to be completely honest most of the WCW fans back then wanted Nash to beat Goldberg . Goldberg turned into the new ultimate warrior really quick, it was fun to watch him rise to the top, but then after we got there, you can only just keep running out for main guys for so long before you’ve completely killed off and buried all of your top guys. What sucked was that the next night on Monday nitro was the finger poke of doom. Honestly I have a lot of respect for and M a huge fan of both Hulk Hogan and Bret Hart but neither of those guys belonged in WCW past 1998. After the NWO angle it was really time for Hogan to maybe go home for a year or two and go back to the WWE. And poor Brett, for as good as he was , there was still Ric Flair, Sting, DDP, Savage, Nash, Goldberg , The Giant, etc. There really just wasn’t anything for him to do
